[Equip] eMTA purchase: TM822G vs. TM852G vs. TM862G vs. DPC3939

Hello, I have reviewed the several threads on this forum about buying an eMTA modem and have a few questions. My Triple Play install is scheduled for next week. I asked about buying my own modem instead of paying the $8 monthly rental fee and was told that would be fine, just make sure it has eMTA for voice. Went to Best Buy and the Comcast guy says these modems have been out of stock for 4 months at every store, he suggested I look on Amazon or eBay. Research indicates that the approved possibilities are the Arris TM822G (no wifi), the Arris TM852G and TM862G and the Technicolor TC8305C gateways, and the Cisco DPC3939 gateway. The price for the 822G is higher, even though it does not include a wifi router. Many have reported problems with the 862G and the Technicolor, although the big problem seems to be the wifi. Since a separate wifi router is needed with the 822G, why not just get the cheaper 862G with a separate router? Any problem with that, other than the frequent complaint that many CSRs do not know how to put the 862G into bridge mode? And what about the 852G? That is even cheaper and I have not seen so many complaints about it. Or does the 822G have newer and better technology that makes it worth the extra price? The Cisco seems to be the newest device but I have not seen many comments about its performance. Any thoughts on what to buy? I have checked Amazon, eBay and ownyourcablemodem.com/. I'm aware of the issues with buying equipment (may be lost or stolen) from such sources but there does not appear to be any alternative at this time, and I do not want to pay $8 per month. Thanks for any info, Bill Edited to add topic group category. uid://455626
