Two weeks ago, I upgraded from my owned modem from a Netgear CM500V to a newly purchased Motorola MT7711. I am on a 400 Mbs speed tier and upgraded the modem as my Netgear was not compatible with my current speed tier. Note that I have xfinity's triple play so I do need voice capabilities.
I purchased the modem with intent of running it in Bride mode which I did for about a week before the router reset itself mid-morning and reverted to running in eRoute_DualMode disrupting internet service for a few minutes.
I submitted a ticket with Motorola support as it's a non trivial task to put the router in Bridge mode and received the following response:
"In this case what it sounds like is happening is Comcast is resetting the modem the modem from there end and forcing it out of bridge mode (I've tested this myself with my own Comcast service and it rebooted within a few hours forcing out of bridge mode). Unfortunately because the ISP has full control over the line and how it configures the modem, what often happens it once they realize that the modem has been bridged, they usually send down a reset signal to the unit to restore the router side of it."
In looking at various Comcast/Xfininty support sites and forums, it seems that I should be able to run the modem without it being reset out of bridge mode. If this is in fact what is happening, can the reset signal suppressed on the Comcast side? Any suggested work around? Right now I have the MT7711 running with the firewall turned off having using my Asus router's firewall but still is still running dual NAT which seems to have caused a couple of issues with applications such as (gasp) Snapchat which my kids aren't too happy about.
I'd appreciate any insight as to what may be going on as I have much invested into a mesh router/network and do not want to use any of the WiFi capabilities of the MT7711. I have this question into Comcast/Xfinity as well.
Thanks in advance.
