Comcast getting rid of ipv4?

I was connecting to a friend's computer (on Comcast) using VNC for a few years. Suddenly a couple days ago, couldn't do it anymore. When I do "what's my ip" on the remote, it only detects a v6 IP. Another site does show the old v4 IP, and the connection does identify as a v4, but the router only shows an ipv6, so does VNC. I am on Verizon, which is not using ipv6 yet, my modem shows ipv4. Not surprisingly that's why I can't use VNC, you can't connect to ipv6 networks from ipv4 networks. I'm wondering, how come I can still see an ipv4 in some situations but it's not really usable for connections. Basically you can't really host anything on that account that an ipv4 user will be able to connect to... Remote will only work with Teamviewer or Chrome, not directly. Am I missing something?
