I have my a tg3482g cable modem and disabled the wifi through the web site of the cable modem (10.0.0.1) so that I can use my own AP's. After disabling the wifi, I then turned on bridge mode so I can use all my own equipment.
I ran into a wifi problem a few weeks ago and ignored it until today. When I pulled up a wifi diagnostic tool (inSSIDer), I was surprised to see a rather hot AP when I was inside my house on the same channel of my own AP. The bssid of the signal was very similar to the mac address of the wifi interface of the cable modem. As I went downstairs, the signal got strong enough for me to determine that the disabled wifi on the cable modem is in fact enabled.
I don't want the cable modem taking up a wifi channel, and just want to disable it....kind of like what the interface says. Tonight I unbridge'd it and made sure that the wifi was disabled and it really was...but yet I can still see the bssid's and signal strength coming out of the cable modem. I also checked and I have the 'xfinity hotspot mode' disabled through my account as well.
Is there a way to really disable the wifi all together on it?
