Just moved over from ATT - XB7 issues

Hi, I just moved over from Uverse as ATT has n fiber in my area and only delivered 60mbps to house. I signed up with XFi Advantage (for the unlimited data ) and two phone lines , 3 weeks ago. Nothing but issues with this piece of crap gateway. I get 950 mbps on ethernet, so the speed into the house is great, but on that same laptop only 180 mbps on wifi 6 laptop, from 10 inches away. From there , it just gets worst. five other devices including my Galaxy s9 phone 60 mbps right next to gateway and about 40 mbps in lounge , which is 1 wall and 20 feet away. Now, even though it is still better than I had (speed wise) , as it drops off a lot , it is not better in terms of service (wife is complaining why 'new ' system I insisted on , is worse than old one. One big positive is that my plex server connects straight away for remote access ( I turned off advance security too). The engineer who installed it ( I needed fiber running in my house to gateway position) said I should be getting at least 3-400 mbps from next to it , over wifi , and said to contact them for new router, which I did , but no different - it is the xB7 version. I have tried the new one and old one twice with no improvement. 3 rooms away I only get 20 mps and outside about 4mbps . Of course , several hours of wasted time on chat to the morons on 'support', was fruitless. I got an email yesterday, saying I can get free pods ( except when I click on it, they are out of stock) but I do not see how the pods can help when they would only be trying to extend an already crap signal - not ENHANCE it. Having done some more research, I also saw that if you install the pods, you can then never switch to bridge mode , which then means if they do not work (which is highly likely the case) , I am screwed for alternative solutions. So, I guess I am wondering a few things: 1. Is this a common , known issue (and if so, why does NOONE on support chat know it? 2. If not, is there anything I need to do to fix it ? 3. If not, should I try 1 more new gateway? I just ordered Nest WiFi with an extra point from BB (picking up tomorrow) so, 1. Do the simple instructions on the Xfinity website to put the XB7 in bridge mode work? 2. If I like the Nests, is there a non Xfi router I can get from Xfinity as I will only need the modem part? 3. Does anyone else have this configuration working well? I have 1 week left to decide if I want to keep Xfinity or go back to ATT or the other option in my area who does fiber is Earthlink ( do not know them , so would need to research them). Many thanks !
