[Install] Switching to Xfinity - Cable Cutter

TLDR: I want to know if I can connect my router directly to the Comcast Xfinity ONT/ONU? Full Story: We had FIOS at our previous home. We stopped using cable services several years ago. I had networked the home. So I ended up plugging one of the cat5e cables from Verizon's ONT direct into my router (XG-7100), and they provided my router with a public IP address. I had no Verizon equipment (set-top boxes, routers, etc) in my home. It was an internet only service. We loved it. We moved and are looking at bringing Xfinity to our new home. It's the only option for broadband in our new are. I have not been able to find any resources about connecting your own router direct to their terminal equipment. Everything I am finding references bridging their Router/modem to my personal router. If possible, I would like to cut their modem/router out of the picture and directly connect my router to their ONT or ONU. Is this possible? I know they have gigabit pro, and I'm also exploring a fiber connection as an option. But I would like to know if the standard gigabit and below plans use a ONT or ONU that I can connect to via RJ45.
