I don't know why I didn't purchase one of these after the original BCI install tech told me that 55dBmv for upstream power was "acceptable" and "I can't make it any better". A subsequent trouble ticket that I created at least got some corroded outside connectors replaced; but it resulted in a $99.95 bill (until I complained loudly that the connectors should have been replaced by the original installer as part of the "professional installation fee")...and I still had ~52dBmv upstream power during warm weather months.
Today, the outside temp was only ~63° F, but all three of my upstream power levels were already at 51dbmv:

So I went ahead and installed the PCT 1-Port Variable Gain Signal Amplifier With Active Return that I bought last week (in preparation for the even warmer weather that is just around the corner). Less than a minute of tweaking the gain produced this excellent result (and there is plenty of slack available should "global warming" require more compensation):

EDIT: Minor spelling correction, and added the "before" screen shot that I originally forgot to include.
