Quick question for the group. Apologies if this has been covered before...
When I do a traceroute from my home internet connection to an external site, the second address (next hop after my local gateway) is always an RFC-1918 (10.X.X.X) address. I recently noticed after a 'scheduled maintenance' outage, that my second-hop address changed from 10.61.223.195 to 10.3.112.1. What exactly does this mean?
I always assumed that the second-hop address was the CMTS, but when I look at my modem log archives, the CMTS MAC address has been unchanged for the past two years. Puzzled...
