I am wanting to get Comcast internet service but my house is not wired with any cables nor is there an existing drop line from the pole. I would like to route the internal cable myself and was wondering about the outside connection. I notice a lot of people have the drop line going into a splitter and then several cables running off that into the house. I only require one internal cable so do I need a splitter even with a single line or can I just use a barrel connector that will interface with the drop line? If so, do I need to provide one or do I just leave the end of the cable sticking out of the wall and the tech will place the required connector and extras to interface with the drop line? Additionally, I'd like to set up the modem myself too. Is it possible for the tech to just run the drop line and interface it with the outside connection of my coax or do they also need to configure the modem as well.
