A few days ago I got a new WAN IP. This is pretty rare, especially on Comcast Business. The only reason I have a dynamic IP at all is because I use my own modem and router, but it still almost never changes, usually going years or longer between changes.
The fact that the IP changed isn't really a problem, but since then anything and everything on the internet that tries to determine my location based on my IP address is saying that I am in Georgia now (I am in SF Bay Area, Northern California).
I'm actually taken back a bit, simply by how many websites seem to use this data and change things on-the-fly as a result, without any user input. I'm talking about stuff like targeted advertising, websites automatically setting your home location, mapping services making assumptions about your origin location, speed test websites choosing the wrong source server automatically, and lots of websites asking for additional authentication as a result of seemingly now being located in a different location - among other issues.
Any ideas on how to resolve what has become a very obnoxious annoyance?
