Using speedtest.comcast.net and the DSL Reports Flash speedtests, I see dramatically different speeds when using the Comcast servers in DC and Denver. I'm in Chicago, Performance tier plan.
On the Comcast test site I always see - almost exactly, every time - 18.4x to 18.5x Mpbs down. Its consistency seems a little suspicious to me.
Using DC and Denver Comcast servers on DSL reports, I get 7.1, or maybe 6.5, as low as 3.x, rarely 9.x, but typically it varies throughout the day and it never approaches what Comcast invariably reports.
Latency and upload speeds usually about the same for both, in the 3.x range. Once in a while the DSL test will shoot into 4.x for upload.
Why such a variance in download speed, and which is accurate? It just seems fishy that latency and upload between the two are similar, but Comcast always seems to tell me that I'm getting that 18.x no matter what or when.
Maybe it's my (lack of) understanding on speed tests?
