My current home connection with Comcast is the 105 down Xfinity Triple Play package. I have my own Arris TM822 modem hooked up to a Linksys WRT1900AC router.
The problem: Wife is running an application called Icannotes. Basically this is a remote desktop to a File Maker database. Past few days she has been complaining that the response time of this application is painfully slow. I would run a speed test and confirm that I'm getting around my 105 down 25 up.
We launched a support ticket with them and they sent me a connection test which is basically a continued ping test to them. I was noticing timeouts about 2-4 per minute on the connection (wireless). Curious about if this was just for that server, I tried the same with ping test to Google. It was running smoothly for about 2 min...then I noticed the 2-4 timeouts per minute with that connection as well.
Last night I plugged my laptop direct to the modem to rule out router. Same results with ping test to google. I know the next thing they might suspect is modem but I was curious as to if this was a common issue or not with Comcast. Is there a ping plotting tool I could install that would show where the timeout is happening (i.e. at the modem or on the Comcast side). I used to use a tool called Ping Plotter but it looks like they charge for that one right now.
Also...wife connected to application via an AT&T wireless MIFI device and it worked great for speed. I suspect if I ping test with that I will get no timeouts.
Any ideas?
