Where does Comcast set the downstream signal levels? I installed a ZyXEL BRG-35503 modem in June of 2014. At the time three of the channels were +/- 0.9 dBmV one was -3 dBmV at a frequency of 579 MHz.
I had no problem until Comcast began offering X1 service several months ago. At that time my broadband service deteriorated. I began receiving frequent cannot connect messages. I checked my signal levels and found the first channel was changed to 657 MHz from a frequency of 579 MHz with a signal level at -9.2527 dBmV. Second channel 675 MHz with a signal level at -6.0029 dBmV, Third channel 686 MHZ with a signal level at -5.7667 dBmV and the Fourth channel 692 MHZ with a signal level at -8.0308 dBmV. The first channel constantly varies from -7.5 dBmV to -9.5 dBmV.
I stopped by a local store and asked a sales person to recommend a replacement modem. Their response was that I should contact Comcast before replacing the modem, because the store has had several modems purchased and returned because the changing the modem did not correct the problem and Comcast had to intervene to correct the problem.
Would it be necessary for me to be home in order for Comcast to correct the problem, if there are low signal levels are at the ground block?
