I recently had a tech install the Comcast TG862G modem/router combo, and its been super fast without problems. However, when my wife decided to work from home the other day, she was unable to her work VPN via her work laptop. She can access our home network but that's it. I am currently unemployed, and explained to the 2nd level tech that I cannot afford to pay an $80 one time fee, or 10 monthly for their level 2 support, particularly for an issue that never existed with the former Comcast modem (after over a year of stable connection, that modem, basically, reached the end of its service life, and became unstable).
It was suggested to change the firewall setting to the "typical setting" option. I did that, and it worked, great, however, the next day, the problem occurred again. The only way I can get it to work is if I reset the modem from the rear, and have my wife log out and back in.
Can this issue be permanently fixed without having to pay since I didn't cause this issue? Can this be resolved by calling Comcast, have them "turn off" the router piece, and I go back to using my own Apple router?
