I'm in the process of installing Internet in a relative's place where there's existing TV working.
I used a 5-2050 two-way splitter which I brought from a discount store back home. On one side I have my TiVo Premiere (w/M-Card), on the other I have a cablemodem. It seems to be working though I'm having router trouble (not the subject of this thread).
To hook up the TiVo I had to disconnect the Comcast-provided HD STB (big silver one, DCT5100 maybe?). I would prefer to leave them both connected, so that when I leave (and take my TiVo) I won't have to mess with the STB cabling. Looking on eBay, I see a cheap unbalanced 3-way splitter. I understand unbalanced means 7dB on each of 2 ports and 3.5dB on the third.
Should this be okay? And I'm thinking that if it is, I should put the internet on the 3.5 port, though digital TV is pretty susceptible too. Or is this pushing the limits and I have to reconnect and test the STB when I go? Last year we used Comcast's splitter which I had to return. Also, when I leave there will be only one device connected to the splitter, leaving 1 or 2 ports open. How critical is it to put terminators on them, if the only thing connectred is the STB?
Thanks!
