As mentioned in this recent DSLR news item https://www.dslreports.com/shownews/Comcast-Prepares-For-Mid2017-Wireless-Service-Launch-139048 , Comcast is planning a mid-year launch of their wireless service.
Comcast announced today that they will be providing the details on this new service on Thursday:
Comcast to Host Analyst Event to Discuss Launch of Mobile Initiative
Comcast press release, Business Wire - April 3, 2017
http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20170403005198/en/Comcast-Host-Analyst-Event-Discuss-Launch-Mobilequote:On Thursday, April 6, 2017, Comcast will host an analyst event to discuss the details of its previously announced mobile initiative, which utilizes an existing MVNO agreement. Senior members of the Comcast leadership team will participate in the event. ...There is also this FierceCable article today about it:
Comcast sets Thursday meeting with investors to discuss wireless launch
By Daniel Frankel, FierceCable - April 3, 2017
http://www.fiercecable.com/cable/comcast-sets-thursday-meeting-investors-to-discuss-wireless-launchquote:Some of the telecom industry’s most closely guarded secrets could finally be revealed Thursday, when Comcast hosts what it calls an “analyst event to discuss the details of its previously announced mobile initiative.”
:
Comcast confirmed plans to launch a wireless service combining the strengths of its vast Wi-Fi network and its MVNO deal with Verizon back in September. The launch has been slated for sometime later this year.
:
Last week, FierceWireless reported that Comcast is quietly partnering with Apple as it prepares to launch wireless service under the brand Xfinity Mobile: http://www.fiercewireless.com/wireless/comcast-quietly-taps-iphone-ahead-launch-xfinity-mobile
The cable giant’s name has been added to behind-the-scenes - but publicly available - code that lists carrier bundles for the iPhone. The list of carrier bundles is used by iTunes and iPhones to determine whether the iPhone’s SIM is supported by a service provider with whom Apple has an agreement, then provisions the phone accordingly.
The iPhone's latest list of carrier bundles includes "Verizon_Comcast_LTE_US," and mentions the service "Xfinity Mobile." A source pointed out the reference to FierceWireless, and a different source with knowledge of the matter confirmed that Comcast has indeed partnered with Apple ahead of the launch of Xfinity Mobile. Issue With MLB (Mets) Streaming in New Jersey
I live in an area of New Jersey which is one of the proverbial "overlap" areas of MLB regional assignments. As such, as we receive CSN Philly, YES Network and SNY. In Ocean County, when I log in to my NBC Sports app for MLB streaming, I see no access to ANY MLB games through my Apple TV. When I logged in for the first time, it did not list *any* RSNs available for game streaming even though we receive three of them with our subscriptions to Comcast.
For Mets games, the app tells me I am not subscribed to the channel (SNY), even though I am. Is this something Comcast screwed up in their database?
I'm hearing from others in my area that they are having the identical issue. From what I have heard, it is not worth calling Comcast or chatting since you'll get an international call center employee who has no knowledge of American RSNs and streaming agreements.
Anyone know anything about this annoying situation?

[Connectivity] Up to 20% packet loss 6pm to 6am
Hey folks,
Thought I'd post here since its been roughly a 1.5 months since this problem started and I've been on the phone 10+ times and had 3 techs to my house. I am a software engineer with experience in networking (specifically VOIP).
Description:
* San Francisco north bay area
* Starts anywhere from 6pm to 10pm, ends around 6am
* Starts a 1 - 2%, ramps up to as much as 20% packet loss
* Bursty; 1 - 2 minutes connection is solid, 2 - 3 seconds 100% packet loss
* Small and completely acceptable jitter outside packet loss windows (10ms~)
* Consistent across all hops - I have used WinMTR, pingplotter to measure over time. Tonight every hop is measuring around 10.5%.
* Pingplotter: http://imgur.com/rw6rwja
* Cable modem signal levels: http://imgur.com/S9d3muD
Solutions tried:
* Obviously reboot, reprovision modem, plug directly into modem/port 1
* Tech replaced all lines from house to pole
* Tech added an 6db attentuator to bring marginal power level back in spec
* Researched leased modem and found Puma 6 chipset to be trivially DDoS'able, so I replaced with a Motorola MB7420 with broadcom chipset
Have also been graphing bandwidth use to make sure I don't have a rogue device on the network. I don't. I had the router I was using before spit out total tcp connections and udp pinholes - all normal.
Last time I called two days in a row, finally got a tech who gave me his phone number and said he forwarded to "network team." Last time I checked in was Sunday, and he said they were still "narrowing down the issue." Same status for 2 weeks.
Anyone have other suggestions for what I can do?

Will Cord Cutting Be The End Of Comcast Overbilling?
Comcast HSI: 200MB/10MB $59.99 + taxes & fees (taxes & fees are about $10.00). Only other option on my street is Verizon DSL which is too slow for PS Vue.
Playstation Vue: $79.99 Ultra (HBO, Showtime, sports package, local and popular channels) to as low as $39.99 for basic (Taxes may apply?)
Ooma Telo: $75.99 one time purchase $39.99 one time purchase to retain your number (No fee for random number). No service fees/no contract just pay $4.99 per month taxes and fees. Comcast charges $44.95 + $10.00 modem rental for landline.
Total per month after one-time purchase: $154.97
Comcast is charging me over $200.00 per month for HD Preferred Plus XF Tripleplay until the end of the contract in April 2018 when it jumps to more than $260.00.
NOTE: Comcast charges 44.95 + $10.00 modem rental for landline but if you drop the service they only remove the $10.00 modem rental fee. So you still pay for the landline @ $44.95 or drop to a Doubleplay package (HSI drops to 100MB/10MB) @ $187.99 + taxes and fees after promotional period.
Started with Comcast in 1980 with a push button set top box, BellTel landline and no internet. Spoke with several Comcast "customer retention" reps but all they can offer me is 6 month promo deals for little savings then it's back to the same crap again. Comcast has proven time and time again that customer loyalty is just an expression to them, profit is all that matters.
Time to cut the cord once and for all.
Before you Comcast shills try to crap on my thread and pass blame for over charging customers, Comcast profits are beyond their own expectations: http://www.marketwatch.com/story/comcast-profit-tops-expectations-lifts-dividend-2017-01-26

[Account] New Terms of Service - residential
Seems Xfinity has new Terms of Service for residential customers. The gist of it (per the email) is:
"We've made updates to our Comcast Agreement for Residential Services
We want to let you know that we're updating our customer terms of service. You can view the agreement here, and you also will receive a copy with your upcoming bill. You don't need to take any action.
You should review the agreement, but here are a few of the key updates:
• We've identified additional ways for us to notify you of changes to our services, including by email and online on our website.
• We've moved some material related to our Internet and Voice services to our website. They may be viewed here.
• Under the new agreement we require you to notify us of changes to your telephone number and other contact information so we can ensure that we are contacting the correct person in accordance with applicable laws.
• We've updated portions of our arbitration provision to make its terms more clear."
TOS link: https://www.xfinity.com/Corporate/Customers/Policies/SubscriberAgreement.html?rid=9308175&mid=20170726_AdHoc_CM_RSA
Oddly, the notice has arrived in my 6 secondary accounts but NOT my primary email account, lol.

[Equip] Modem for Gigabit service
Hello all- I just signed up for their gigabit service and need to get one of their approved docsis 3.1 modems. Looks like they have 3 to chose from: ARRIS SB8200, Motorola MB8600, or the netgear CM1000. Which would you purchase?
Thanks!

[Signals] Opinion on these signals?
So I'm going to preface this post that I am not experiencing any service troubles yet...
I occasionally check my modem's signal/stats page because I find it pretty cool, and mostly just to see how things look. I check it enough to notice trends, and for a while my downstream power levels have slowly been trending downward. I'd say within the last month or so, the trend has picked up - perhaps because of the summer heat?
[att=1]
I live in an MDU, and each unit has two coax lines that come from a central area on the floor. I take the first line and it goes into my modem, the second goes into a splitter for the wall jacks.
Since I was curious, I took a peek at my neighbor's modem and it's looking pretty rough.
[att=2]
Again, not experiencing any trouble, but I have definitely noticed a slow downward trend over the years. Here's about 2 years ago when we got a new CMTS...
[att=3]
Any thoughts? I was curious if maybe I should post in Comcast Direct in the hopes of proactively having it looked into, but wasn't sure if I was at the point where it would do any good.
Thanks!

[Plan] Side Discussion on DOCSIS 3.1 Gigabit service
Mod Note: This topic started as "XI Gigabit DOCSIS 3.1 - data cap with 3-year agreement?" It has become a general discussion of this deployment, hence the title change. uid://455626
If you actually have had this service installed, the stickied report topic is here. > https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r30960001-Speed-Report-DOCSIS-3-1-Gigabit-Service-Here If you report, please include info requested in the first post and keep that topic strictly on topic. Thanks, sortofageek
The XI Gigabit DOCSIS 3.1 is now available in my area. I am tempted to sign up. Early reports said unlimited data with a 3-year agreement. The Comcast website says nothing but the typical disclaimer about the data usage plan. I don't want to sign a 3-year agreement for a plan with a data cap. Does anyone know if the XI Gigabit service is subject to the data usage nonsense?

[Connectivity] Modem Shut Down and Reboot Loop

Any way to petition Comcast to run service to an unserved area?
Get an unusual question...
I live rural but only 1 mile outside of town. Live off a 2 lane highway, the neighborhoods on the other side of the highway have Comcast cable service, even going further down the highway (away from town) another few miles. But on my side of the highway, the neighborhoods have no cable run.
I was told by a neighbor that some years ago Comcast came through asking if residents would be interested in their service, apparently not enough said yes. I've been here 2.5 years and no idea when this supposedly happened.
I' ve asked Comcast service reps in the past but nobody had any idea how to get them to install new areas.
Is it possible? Or are we forever out of luck here in the country?

[WiFi] xfinitywifi hotspot stopped working
I have xfinitywifi hotspot enabled on my Arris gateway, it's the only reason I pay $10/month to rent the modem from Comcast (we routinely have people in the house that want to use the internet). About a month ago, the hotspot suddenly stopped working. For a while, it would show 5 bars but you would connect, and it would only be 1-2 bars and barely stable. Then it stopped working entirely. It still broadcasts, shows 5 bars. On phones (Android or iPhone), you try to connect to it, it might say "connecting..." for a few seconds, but then it just goes to "saved" or even "disabled". On a Windows laptop, I try to connect, it spins for a few seconds and then pops up message "Windows was unable to connect to xfinitywifi".
I tried rebooting the modem (via unplugging, reset button, or having the Xfinity app send a restart signal). I tried disabling the hotspot in my account settings, waiting 24 hours, and re-enabling it again. I called support, they passed me to Tier 2 and Tier 3 support people who made no suggestions beyond "try disabling and re-enabling wireless adapter on your laptop and see if that fixes it".
So finally I thought it was a hardware issue with the Arris gateway. Last week I went to an Xfinity store and swapped it out for a new one. Hooked it up, lo and behold - xfinitywifi started working again! It worked for all of 2 days, on the 3rd day it started doing the same thing again, where it broadcasts but no device can actually connect to it.
Has anyone run into something like this?

[Equip] YA SB6121 Blast 150 Thread
I have an old SB6121 that I would like to use even if it bottlenecks my performance. I have ordered 150mbps blast service.
Is comcast still activating these modems for this service? Is it correct that the maximum speed to be expected would be about 120-130mbps? I am fine with that if that is the case, but I just want to make sure. Thank you

[Plan] Does Comcast negotiate with HOA's?
Does Comcast negotiate with HOA's for offering special bundles or new service buildout (gigabit/X1 stuff/etc) or other perks if we have a group (probably 200 people) that will likely subscribe given special promotions?
Comcast has a regional agreement with our city (municipality, whatever). Not sure if that makes a difference.

Opinion on Comcast Cable Signals
Having some question on the signals on my SB8200 DOCSIS3.1 Modem.
For some reason from the modem I get 480Mbps down yet once I plug in my router (Linksys 1900AC v1) my internet won't hit above 300Mbps. I bought a new router thinking that was the problem and reset configs. I still have the same issue. Not sure what to think but I've tried everything from new equipment to new wires. What else could it be and wanted to get your take on these signals. Thanks.

I am trying to order the Extreme Pro (400 Mbs) pack as I have the old Extreme 150 and the Pro is cheaper than I am currently paying.
You can not order on the web site but have to call.
Finally get through to a human only to be told they don't do a 400Mbs internet for residential. The best they have is the Blast! 200.
I politely explain they go up to 2Gbs for home internet if you are willing to pay for it.
Anyone else ran into this issue, Or have an idea how to get around the human factor?
