Modem/On-Demand Question- Please Help!
Hi All,
I have two RGN150 legacy cable boxes (not x1) and an SB6183 modem. I've had a few slow-down issues with the modem and can't seem to get on-demand (keeps showing an "error-14" code).
The Comcast technician was out today and he couldn't find any problems with the signals or the boxes and suggested I replace all my cable boxes with x1 boxes. I'm getting a good tv picture (very nice high definition) but no on-demand.
I'm attaching a copy of my modem diagnostics page below. It's weird that I can get a good tv picture and internet, but no on-demand. Does anybody have any suggestions or should I just get the x1 boxes as the technician suggested? Any advice would be helpful. Thanks, Rebecca

[NodePlus0] General Discussion of N+0 deployment activity
I would like to start a thread where we can keep track of the areas where Comcast has started deploying N+0 equipment. Earlier this year Comcast started pushing fiber deeper into the neighborhoods around me but close to 10 months after it was strung/buried it is still sitting unspliced and unlit. The comcast plant in my area is an old Adelphia region that is built on a 750MHz architecture so it's due for upgrade but it appears as if comcast is stalling on these upgrades for some reason. Has anyone else noticed any aggressive node splits and/or amplifier reduction in any other markets?

[Speed] Anybody else notice that gig and gig pro got pulled from offers?
I went on the Comcast site today as a new customer connect to see what they were offering for gig service and my whole block only has up to 250 offered now when we previously had gig and even gig pro! Anyone else notice Comcast pulling gigabit offers that they had before? I’m wondering if they’re “keeping up” with CenturyLink which can barely get 100 to us here..... it definitely seems fishy that going from their gig link directly to the offers page doesn’t show it at all anymore. This is in Littleton, CO and we definitely have D3.1.

[Speed] SB6141 unable to reach 100Mbps down
My SB6183 died tonight, so I replaced it with a SB6141 that I had in storage. When the SB6141 registered on Comcast's network for the first time, I saw it received a firmware update (see below). While the modem is working, I'm only seeing 32Mbps download speeds ( http://speedtest.xfinity.com/results/J9QOQO20JXSIGTQ ). I have the Performance Pro Tier which is rated at 100Mbps/5Mbps. I usually slightly exceeded 100Mbps when using the SB6183.
I called Comcast customer service but they couldn't figure out why I wasn't getting the full 100Mbps download speed. I previously used this SB6141 on Cable One with 100Mbps/6Mbps service and it reached those speeds fine.
Any ideas about why the SB6141 might not be getting the full 100Mbps download speeds?
Is firmware version SB_KOMODO-1.0.6.16-SCM00-NOSH the most recent available?
Thanks for any help.

[Bill] Reminder NEVER do a bank auto-draft pay option with Comcast
Some background; I worked for a well known hated cable company for about 10 years. I started in an operational role, then eventually moved to an analytical reporting position. I specifically handled churn data (how many people connected and disconnected service in a month). I have been out of the company for a year, but I had an acquaintance reach out for help recently, as he was getting nowhere.
This well known hated company had just started a policy of giving out discounts on new sales if you signed for for an auto-draft payment option (note, the advertised price INCLUDES that discount. So, if its a 29.99 internet price for a year, if you don't do auto-draft, it ends up being 34.99), so check everything before you sign up.
I know a lot of redditors are younger and have cut the cord, but anyone that still has cable (and kids - ill get to this later) please take heed.
Remember, when you use ANY cable company (at least in the US) you pay 1 month ahead. This is an important detail.
REASON 1 - PROMOTIONS ENDING
As they are famous for, cable companies boil the frog. Fee's rais every year; some part of your plan, some not. There could be things like a raise in cable box
prices (usually not part of the core promotion people sign up for), or some stupid fee that they cant explain. They had just implemented the 'local broadcast fee' and 'local sports fee', each $5.
When a draft happens, its usually on the first of the month. The kicker is, the company knows the amount, BEFORE the consumer gets the bill. So, when they send their draft amount to the banks (we used Chase, but that could vary by area), the amount that is going to be drafted from a bank account is known BEFORE the consumer gets to see it. So, if there are any arguments about when the promotion is ending, or whatever fees, the company would always take whats on the bill, regardless of any changes made that month.
REASON 2 - SURPRISES
This wasn't as common, but it did happen from time to time. PPVs. They are super easy to order now. Things like kids movies, MMA fights, and porn get ordered all the time. A dozen times a month we would have someone call in with $500 in PPV charges. We could verify what cable box they came from, and it was usually a kid or guest that didn't know what they were doing (or the ever elusive, 'my cat must have stepped on the remote 40 times').
Again, when the charges are incurred, the amount goes to the bank BEFORE anyone can see the bill, so that $500 will come out of your bank account. Hope you enjoyed 'My Little Pony - The Red Express' 6 times, or 'Backdoor Sluts 3 and 4'.
REASON 3 - EQUIPMENT
This is the most dangerous one, by far. With the other two, you have some leverage, as sometimes the company will want to keep you as a customer, and waive the fees. Note though, they generally wont return it to the bank account, it just means your next draft will be much lower. With equipment charges, you are generally screwed.
So, when you get the service, you may end up renting some pieces of equipment. Usually a few cable boxes, maybe a modem, and with some new services, there is a home alarm system.
When one disconnects their account, equipment must be returned in 7 days. If its not, you get charged for it. And if you had a newer box (especially DVRs), guess what, that's $300-$500 PER BOX. So, if you turned off the service, accidentally packed the boxes in your move to Florida, they will charge you $2000. And maybe you have heard this before, IF YOU ARE ON AUTODRAFT, THEY ARE TAKING THIS MONEY. When you RETURN the equipment, it will come off the account, but you get a check back 4-6 weeks later (they wont return draft the funds back to you).
That's a best case scenario. What if you have lived in your home for 7 years, and about 3 years ago you had a lot of trouble, and said company came out and swapped some of your boxes? Well guess what, the technician didn't do his job right, and left the old equipment on the account too. So even if you return everything you own, company still thinks you have the older boxes, and guess what, its drafted. Then you have to go through the rigmarole to prove you don't have the equipment anymore. You can guess what happens next.
We did about 20k disconnects per month (in my region). Unreturned equipment was charged to about 1/6 households.
If you want to do auto-draft, either for ease or discounts, USE A CREDIT CARD
tl'dr Don't do bank auto-draft with cable companies.

[Signals] "Looks like your wiring needs attention. We can help!"
I received an email from Comcast with the following text.
"We’ve detected a loose or damaged cable in your home. If
it isn’t fixed, you could experience service issues in the
future. This may also impact the service quality of others in
your neighborhood. We would like to locate and fix the
issue to make sure you don’t experience any
problems in the future.
Give us a call today to schedule your complimentary service visit."
Do any of the techs here know what exactly triggers this email to be sent? The modem logs haven't shown an kind of disconnect or T3 timeout since late September. Nobody left any kind of door tag, and if they climbed the pole in my back yard to disconnect the drop to confirm the ingress was coming from my house, the modem would have reset.
The upstream power level is 34-36 dBmV same as it has always been, on the bottom of the acceptable range. The run the modem is old RG-59 coax with two barrel connectors replacing points where there used to be splitters as I am an internet only subscriber. Should I expect that this wiring is going to be condemned and replaced possibly costing me some $$$, or do they typically fix this by adding some kind of attenuator?
If something was really messing up the system badly, would I already be disconnected?

[Install] New cable needed -- how much of a mess?
I was all ready for my Xfinity install and the tech confirmed that everything inside the house looked good and was ready to go. Then he found that the very old existing Comcast cable -- installed in the early days of cable service in the area -- was not going to be usable. So now they've scheduled the work to pull a new cable, and for some reason it has to come from the box on the other side of the street (typical suburban neighborhood). So how much of a mess is this going to be? Or in other words, how much digging is necessary to install the conduit/cable under a residential concrete street and thru my yard? I didn't plan on having to fix my lawn, repair sprinkler lines they hit, etc.
To complicate things, it might be necessary for them to go under the street and then under my driveway as well. I'm almost rethinking the whole Xfinity thing! I do still have a WOW cable coming up to the house...

The XI Gigabit DOCSIS 3.1 is now available in my area. I am tempted to sign up. Early reports said unlimited data with a 3-year agreement. The Comcast website says nothing but the typical disclaimer about the data usage plan. I don't want to sign a 3-year agreement for a plan with a data cap. Does anyone know if the XI Gigabit service is subject to the data usage nonsense?

[Other] 1,700 feet from last drop, Comcast will not extend. Need Options
TL;DR:
Before we purchased the house we currently live in, we had comcast business come out and make sure cable would be able to run to the house, sent them $5k to run the cable. Turns out they don't want to do the run, as they said they would need to extend the network and it would run us 250k to do so. I'm 1,700 feet from the last pole in the drop, basically telling me extending the run would degrade the rest of the neighborhood, new sub-division shows up and 20+ houses all get connected just fine. Still nothing for me.
So, I'm currently running with a 4GLTE Srrint connection, but it's just terrible, 1-5d / .125 u ping is 500+, only good news is it's unlimited data.
I live in a valley, and trees are all over the place. The good news is, I'm now basically a expert with wireless lol.
So I'm looking for options on how to get comcast to get me a drop or drop a line at the last pole.
I've seen that they offer Xfinity Wifi-hotspots, are these pole mounted? Can I buy an account and connect to this hotspot and I just hit it from my house? Does it let me stay logged in at all times?
Other options:
Renting a spot on the Pole, having comcast drop me a line, and the power company do the same, put NEMA box on the pole and create my own point to point link using Ubiq. equipment as the link.
Anyone have other ideas? Options or Thoughts? I've been dealing with this 4GLTE crap for 2 years now, constantly working on how to get better net at my home. I do remote work every once in a while so it's very important for me.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Southwest Chicago Suburbs: How Are Your Speeds After Layer3 Out?
So after the Layer3 outage a few days ago and maybe even before that, my gigabit speeds are terrible. Modem signal levels look EXACTLY the same and are in optimal range. My last speed test was 30mbps download and 6mbps upload (direct to the modem).
I talked to @ComcastCares and they think my inside wiring is the problem; don't they always? I talked to a few friends in the same area and out of the same headend who are having similar issues. So if my signal levels are fine, can that rule out wiring & modem?

[Speed] Poor Gigabit Download Speed out of Romeoville, IL Headend
Not sure what is going on here, but my gigabit download speeds are now under 200 Mbps and sometimes even under 100 Mbps; upload is fine. My signal levels look the same as they always have, rebooted modem (Motorola MB8600), rebooted my eero network, tested straight to modem, tested later in the evening and mid-day; all same results. You see anything on the signal levels that I am missing? My download SNR is always around 35-37

Comcast downgraded our area recently from 32 channels to 28. I was able to confirm this was NOT for D3.1. I wanted to know if the same has happened to any other areas. I am a little worried they could decide to cut it some more. I don't expect D3.1 in more area to after 2020.
