I just spoke to Comcast/Xfinity and I'm looking to move my POTS to Xfinity as I can't take the static any longer on these 50+ year old lines.
We're looking at a triple play and I plan on buying my cable modem. Anyone with recommendations? I've been looking at the ARRIS SURFboard T25. Oops that won't work, need a Netgear CM2050V.
I've been wondering how Xfinity gets 1.2G? I don't know of that many firewalls that can deal with more than a 1G interface.
Any words of warning other than the normal hate towards Xfinity's Call Automation?
I plan on patching direct (new demarc) into the existing 4 wire POTS lines rather than run out to the telco demarc. I wonder if they'll abandon that in place or pull it out?
How about battery backup for the phone equipment? Any suggestions?

Unexpected Speed bump?
Was surprised to see it bump from 300 to 400 over night. I didn’t even know it was coming.
How’s this even possible without a modem reset?

Suspicious phone call, allegedly from Comcast

I've gotten a suspicious phone call (possibly several, there were blank messages on my machine) from someone saying they are from Comcast, asking me about my service. The caller-ID does not show the call as originating from Comcast.
I hung up without giving out any information.
Is anyone else receiving these calls?

Netgear CM 600 for Extreme Pro
Is anyone here using a Netgear CM 600 on the Extreme Pro plan that was recently bumped up to 800mbps? If so does the modem do ok with that speed tier? I think it probably maxes the modem out? Just wondering if it's ok to use the CM600 on the Extreme Pro tier?
Thanks,

Issues with Comcast and unable to get help
Hello,
We have had performance and bandwidth issues for years with Comcast. On our 35mbps connection - the most we could get was 5-10mbps at any time. Upgraded to 200mbps, most we can get is 10-20mbps. Comcast has sent a tech out who has re-ran the line from the pole to the house.
The problem is getting anyone at comcast to actually troubleshoot the issue. They want to send a tech out to rerun the line again.
How do you get them to actually do something besides restart the modem (their favorite) and re-run the line?

Comcast forum changes
Went to the Comcast forums, and saw this scrolling message:quote: Something BIG is coming!
After almost a year of hard work and dedication, we are delighted to announce the re-launch of the Xfinity Forum on March 15th, 2021.
Please note that the Xfinity Forum will undergo maintenance March 13th & 14th to prepare for the re-launch.
During this time, the community and all its content will be in a read-only state.
This means you will still be able to see all posts and private messages, but you won’t be able to reply or start a new post during this maintenance.
Thank you in advance for your understanding, and we look forward to seeing you back in the forum on March 15th for all the exciting things to come.
I wonder how bad the new one will be?

[NodePlus0] General Discussion of N+0 deployment activity
I would like to start a thread where we can keep track of the areas where Comcast has started deploying N+0 equipment. Earlier this year Comcast started pushing fiber deeper into the neighborhoods around me but close to 10 months after it was strung/buried it is still sitting unspliced and unlit. The comcast plant in my area is an old Adelphia region that is built on a 750MHz architecture so it's due for upgrade but it appears as if comcast is stalling on these upgrades for some reason. Has anyone else noticed any aggressive node splits and/or amplifier reduction in any other markets?

[Equip] Locked out of new business gateway, tech can't reset password
So about a week ago Comcast came and replaced our business gateway as we upgraded to gigabit speed. Installation went fine. A day or two later we set it into what Comcast calls bridge mode but is really pass-through mode and installed a new firewall. Instantly up and running, no problems at all. About two days later, a notice about maintenance being done in our area and Sonicwall firewall is down but putting modem back in routing mode gets us up and running without the Sonicwall.
Today while attempting to set up the firewall all over again we realize that we are locked out of the Comcast box - our changed password does not work, the default password doesn't work and Comcast tech support try multiple times to reset it - all to no avail until the tech does what he calls a full factory reset at which point we are back in. Prior to that he had been starting to talk about getting the box replaced.
My question is why? What happened that we were locked out and is there a danger of it happening again? Is there a chance that the box is defective? I've only seen this 1x before and for that one Comcast did replace the box.
At this point we are up and running again on the Comcast business gateway as we can't seem to get the Sonicwall to work and play happily with the Comcast box and we've had more than enough business interruption for one week.

[CDV] Comcast Dropping Voice2Go and the Connect App
I just learned that Comcast is dropping both the Mobile Connect App and the Voice2Go feature.
https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/xfinity-connect-sunset
I'm disappointed by the loss of both features.
The Connect app let me take home phone calls on my cell phone - a useful feature.
Voice2Go virtual phone numbers were a nice feature. We haven't actually used it for several years, so I guess this is not such a great loss for us. Still...

Comcast IPV6 on UDM-Pro
A few months ago I decided to upgrade my modem and router. I purchased a Netgear CM2050V modem and UDM-PRO. My switch and AP's were already Unifi.
I did not spend much time setting up the UDM other than to get the basics working. One thing that was not working is IPV6 which I have always had working since Comcast started using it.
Recently I decided to try and get IPV6 working but I can’t figure it out. I have searched online but most of the info is older and says IPV6 doesn’t work or not related to Comcast.
I figured I would ask here to see if I could get some help from Comcast users if they have IPV6 successfully working on the UDM.
The UDM firmware is 1.9.0
Controller is 6.1.6.1
On the WAN I have DHCPv6 enabled with the default prefix delegation size of 64.
On the LAN I have it set to Prefix Delegation and Route Advertisement ON
GeoIP filter has always been off. I read that it can break IPV6
Thanks

[Signals] mid split amp
is there such thing as an amplifier for mid split? since they did the work a few days ago my signals dropped from -1 to -7
there isnt really much i can do to make it better, its basically a direct run from the front of the house to the back where i got my cable modem, with a no loss tap (1 direction virtually no loss, another direction ~8db loss) roughly 100 feet from the drop in my house, i even took out the splitter a while ago that goes to the bedrooms, otherwise it would be even worse.
the run from the drop to the tap is about 60 feet
obviously id want it to be mid split to somewhat future proof myself.

[Speed] Can it be closer to symmetrical?
Right now we have only 100mbit dl. We tried to sign up for higher but they couldn’t do it due to unspecified technical reasons.
We are using our own netgear 1200 modem.
For our 100 mbits download, our upload speed is barely sufficient. Half the time skype sessions fail because it can’t stream the webcam fast enough.
They said to get a higher upload we’d need a higher download. But they already said they couldn’t deliver over 100. And the 100 is depressingly expensive as it is.
Is there any way to sacrifice some download speed to give us a higher upload? Like 70/30 or 60/40 or something?

DHCP Issue north of Chicago
I’m in NC. In the future, I'm gonna be putting 2 ethernet items on the Wired LAN of a relative’s router in IL, supplied by Comcast... Via my previous visit, I know the Router IP of LAN: 10.0.0.1 and her computer, printer, and my, and other relative's Phones when there, are all DHCP IP's -- and are scattered all over the place on that LAN.
EDIT: Screenshot shows DHCP IP's at: .17, .20, .66, .98, .254
Neither She, nor I have any access to that Router she has (Comcast Supplied) to see what the DHCP Range is... To Try and avoid it! Via previous experiments, I am going to use STATIC IP's of: 10.0.0.150 & 10.0.0.151 for the devices I'm adding.... Those IP's were not in use while I was there last week...
My Question.... Will subsequent added by Router DHCP's -- "check first" ??, before adding one at .150 & .151 or is it the luck of the draw?
EDIT: The screenshot I captured says the router at 10.0.0.1 is an Arris TG1682G
I have duplicated her 10.0.0.1 IP system, via a STATIC IP router as a gateway, working on my NC 192.x.x.x System Now... So I know that part is good, and hardware is tested operational at those IP's.... before the move of this hardware, to Illinois...
Thanks for any replies

[Install] Xfinity install cut off all phone jacks in house
I'm visiting my Mom, which I haven't done in a while. She got Xfinity installed at some point and she tells me all the phone jacks no longer work, which I verified. These are the old 4-wire style (quad cable) with R/G/B/Y wires). The result is she has only one phone in the house that works.
I realize that phone service now comes from the Xfinity router instead of from the NID/Demarc where the copper POTS wires (from Bell Atlantic/Nynex/Verizon) connected to our home. Comcast appears to have connected the router to one of the wall jacks (and the router provides a dial tone to the phone plugged into it). But that's not distributing a dial tone to the rest of the jacks in the house as I would have expected (am I wrong on that?)
She has a cordless phone plugged into the router, but because of the layout of the house she doesn't get a good wireless phone signal in parts of the house (her bedroom, the kitchen), which isn't great. I'm looking for possible solutions so I can get phones working for her again in other rooms.
1) Am I wrong in thinking that plugging into one phone jack should distribute dial tone to the rest? IF so, then at some point either Comcast disconnected them - intentionally or accidentally - or the line got cut somehow.
2) Does Comcast provision any kind of phone-only router that they could hook up near where the old NID used to be? I can't really put the full router there because it's in the basement and then the wifi signal will be an issue. I'm thinking that since the phones all used to work installing a phone-specific connection there might solve the problem.
3) Any other ideas?

[Signals] AT&T Fiber vs Xfinity Docsis 3.1 question
Hi
My AT&T bundle (u-verse 200 & 1gb fiber & local phone) will expire in 11 days, I am currently paying $163.00.
Xfinity is offering, 125 TV channels, 1200mbps internet and local phone for $90. 2 year contract.
I am aware that the upload is not symmetrical.
I use the internet for streaming, browsing, music, downloads and usual work, some ocations, I create web sites.
In the other hand, I will be able to use my own equipment and not to bother with bypassing and having 2 different network.
If the upload is the only drawback, wouldn't I be better switching to Xfinity?
I would appreciate any comments or suggestions.
Thank You
Mario

[Equip] Modem For Business Class, Pass-Through Mode, Static IP, NO WiFi?
Hello All,
My Comcast Business High-Speed Internet service has taken to bouncing like a rubber ball, recently. (Fourteen times overnight. Three times yesterday afternoon. Thrice Thursday afternoon. Thrice again last Monday morning in the wee hours. Etc.)
Comcast suggests it's the cmodem, an SMCD3G. It was actually no longer "recommended" at the time I got it, but I wanted a non-WiFi modem that could be set to pass-through ("bridge") mode, so my Internet router could have my public IP address on its WAN port.
Asked the tech support individual on the phone "Will the tech have a non-WiFi cable modem that can operate in "bridge" mode? She assured me he would.
Tech arrives and informs me that, no, Comcast no longer offers any non-WiFi cmodems and the cmodems they have, while they can be placed in "bridge" mode, won't work in that mode with a static IP.
Say WHAT?!?!
Tell the tech "Thanks, but no thanks. Sorry you wasted your time." Called Comcast back. Got an indefinite answer this time around, with the guy on the phone saying something about "virtual bridge mode." Escalated to Tier 2. (Which he did only reluctantly.)
So, does anybody know, for sure, if Comcast has a cmodem that:
. Is non-WiFi
. Has pass-through ("bridge") mode, such that my router gets the WAN address
. Will work with a static IP
. Preferably support IPv6
?
TIA!
