I have an install scheduled soon at a new construction location that uses Comcast's fiber network, which I haven't seen before and there's very little information online. Can't use your own modem (or I guess it's an SFP+, really) with this setup (though they waived the rental fee for theirs), so I presume it will be the XF3 (Arris X5001).
I'd like to just put the modem in bridge mode and supply my own routing and networking past that point, and the PDF manual on Comcast's site confirms that bridge mode is an available option.
My only question is whether this is still compatible with Xfinity TV service with bridge mode turned on. My understanding is that the TV service is all-IP and that they provide the TV service over MoCA (the unit is wired internally with coax, all terminating in the closet next to the fiber drop) to the set-top boxes (I'm not sure what model they use for these types of installs). I'm not sure if Comcast is using "bridge mode" on the XF3 to mean "really make this box into a dumb transceiver" or "secretly handle the TV network behind the scenes and pretend to be in bridge mode as far as internet service is concerned."
I'm also happy to provide the set-top boxes with ethernet off my network, if that works instead, but I'm not sure whether they'll throw a fit if the gateway is in bridge mode.
If this doesn't work, do you think I'm better off using the XF3 as my router or just dropping the set-top boxes entirely and using the Stream app on Rokus/Smart TVs (which would also solve the "lack of 4K" problem I think I'm about to have)?
