Does Comcast still redirect typos in URLs entered in the browser address bar to a search engine?
Here's the background. My friend recently switched from AT&T DSL to Comcast HSI. I was visiting his family this evening, and he asked me the "what's going on here" question, i.e., if he mistypes a URL, the browser (current FireFox on Windows 7) presents him with a search engine page.
I was not able to do a lot of troubleshooting to determine the root cause, whether it was Comcast redirection or some browser config parameter. But I know that Comcast, at one time, had the ability to opt out from this egregious behavior on their part. A quick spin through the [slow-as-molasses] comcast.net site this evening did not yield any info about opting out from the DNS redirection.
So I wonder ... is Comcast is still doing DNS redirection on typos? If so, how does one opt-out?
thx.
