I am not a Comcast customer but I am asking this due to a situation my girlfriend recently had and she DOES use Comcast. She has been using a Motorola SB5121 modem of her own for many years without issues. Then suddenly about three weeks ago her service went down. All lights were steady green except for the amber PC/Activity light which was not flickering as usual but stayed off. No matter how many attempts to reset things and rearrange cables and everything behind the modem, no Internet at the computer or the Vonage adapter.
So she called Comcast and they told her something about modem end-of-life implying that her modem is no longer supported. She ended renting a modem from Comcast for the time being until she gets a new modem of her own (she doesn't want to pay the hefty $8 monthly rental fee). I am not clear yet if her old modem was at fault or if Comcast stopped DOCSIS 2.0 support in her area altogether in favor of DOCSIS 3.0. They sent a Ubee U10C035 modem. She lives in Northeast Massachusetts.
