Can someone enlighten me on how to protect devices at/beyond the cablemodem on the data coax from storms? I don't mean the power, as the modem and everything networked is on a UPS.
Is it correct not to use surge/coax protection as it will cause data loss/speed issues?
Or bonding/ground issue? I want to protect home equipment..
Example, lost a) router and b) ethernet port on computer during a storm. The cablemodem from Comcast (has the wifi, phone, etc lights) was the initial connection to the router (Apple Airport Extreme) which "popped" physically. It was determined that from that, the ethernet to the connected computer damaged the port/jack. Luckily, the computer has wifi as well so that is ok and working. The cablemodem is fine (all four ethernet jacks out, work to a good device, just not the computer.
Thanks for any help with this...
