I know I've heard others mention that bridge mode on the DPC3939 is unstable, but I can at least say mine stayed working fine for 12 days, then it took a dive last night. None of my network configuration changed, was just watching the Steelers win on TV like a typical Sunday and all of a sudden I could no longer access the internet on my wireless devices and wired devices.
My setup is a DPC3939 through a pfsense router with two gigabit nics in them. I could not access the modem/gateway page of http://10.0.0.1 like I normally can. I went into the router and saw that the WAN interface was not getting an IP. I remember this being an issue when I first put the modem into bridge mode and the only fix to get an IP was to hold a pen in the factory reset button in the back. I tried several reboots of both the modem and the router and it still wouldn't pull an IP address for the WAN port. I even tried the comcast app, which was also next to useless in this case.
I ended up holding a pen in the reset hole on the modem and then once it came up, pfsense showed an IP again.
For those who say the modem is buggy when in bridge mode, is this going to be expected, or do you think its worth swapping out for another modem? If so, what model should I get that will probably do bridge mode? To help in the choice, I have CDV, so I'm kind of hosed into renting/leasing a modem unless I shell out $199 on amazon for a gateway with emta.
