Got a letter from Comcast about 3 months back saying "you have DOCSIS 2.0, go to DOCSIS 3.0!"
Picked up a Surfboard on Black Friday -- I installed it using the online "auto-activate" stuff last weekend, and it's been working fine since (although my package only supports up to 25 MB/s so feel there was a little misdirection with "instant speed boost" on Comcast's end).
Anyway, was curious to see if my exact modem was indeed listed as EOL (end of life) so Googled "comcast end of life list" and clicked on the link. Well, to my surprise, the link auto-redirected to a page that said "thank you! per the terms of the letter we sent you 3 months ago, by clicking on this link we are now sending you a new DOCSIS 3.0 Comcast modem to replace whatever you have now!" Guess I shouldn't have been logged into my account. Feel that's shady and there should be a "click to confirm!" link.
Anyhoo, even thought the site said "processed within 2-4 days, shipped within 3 weeks" which gave me what I thought was a window to call in and cancel before the shipped, the (completely unneeded and unsolicited) modem arrived on my doorstep Friday.
How do I return this to Comcast in the least time consuming way possible? Bonus points if there's a way to guarantee that Comcast doesn't keep "accidentally" charging me for a modem rental (they are 0-for-1 in this department).
