Comcast has coaxial cable laid to some huge percentage - maybe 95 % or more - of its customers. A lot of it was put in the ground 10-20 year ago, maybe more. (I know in my yard, it hasn't been updated in 9 years). So while Comcast had a significant capital cost for putting down the cable back then, they have been depreciating it for quite a while. Yes, they have to occasionally replace a STB or maybe something on the pole or pedestal, but basically the same cable carries the signal to my house year after year.
Does that physical coax cable deteriorate? Will there be some point in the future when Comcast is going to have to go house-to-house again because the shield or the copper or whatever has simply worn out?
(Obviously, backhoes and shovels present different issues ...)
If it does deteriorate, is Comcast planning for that day?
