It seems absurd that Comcast would give its door-to-door salespeople enough power to sign me into a contract without my consent, and yet that's exactly what my local rep tried to do. Why on earth would Comcast allow orders to be placed without collecting any validating information (SSN, birthdate, signature, etc)?
A couple days ago, the door-to-door rep came by trying to sell an upgrade to Triple Play. I'm currently in a Double Play contract, have no need for voice, and would lose HBO under her deal, so it was a no-go. I tried to do the polite thing by saying I "would think about it." The rep handed me a flyer and left.
Today, Comcast emails me to tell me that my services would be upgraded "as I requested", with an installation appointment set for a random day next week. They would charge early termination fees for leaving my Double Play contract, and a new 2-year agreement for Triple Play would start. Naturally, I was livid. I never agreed to any of this, never signed any contract nor gave any personal info, and the full terms of the new 2-year contract were never disclosed to me. The monthly price would have been no better than my Double Play, due to the costs of renting an EMTA and adding HBO back to my lineup.
I was able to cancel the order online, but the chat rep could not have cared less that the order was placed without my permission. When I brought up the unauthorized and deceptive behavior of the neighborhood sales rep, the chat agent simply told me to take it up with the local Comcast office and then disconnected the chat.
Why would Comcast set up its ordering systems to allow this crap? It's incredibly dishonest and should be illegal to sign me into a 2-year contract without my knowledge or agreement.
