Not sure what is causing this strange behavior. I have two Foscam 8910 cameras that were setup for motion control alerts but they never worked. I am using Xfinity internet and DynDns for dynamic dns hosting. I was able to view my cameras remotely on my mobile devices, but the motion control email alerts never worked.
Recently, my Xfinity modem needed to be replaced, so I just received an Arris TG862G modem. This provides a router and a WiFi base station, and telephone access. I do use an Apple Airport Extreme as my wireless access point, so I did not plan to use the Xfinity for WiFi. The oddest thing did happen though. As soon as I plugged my Airport Extreme into the Arris modem, the cameras started to send FANTASTIC motion alerts via email. I was getting results sent to me if someone briefly walked by the camera. It was super sensitive and worked very well. Great!
Then I realized that I could not remotely view the cameras from my mobile device. I knew it was because the ports were being blocked by the new Arris modem/router which my Airport Extreme was plugged into. OK. I knew I needed to put the Arris into bridge-mode and use it just as an internet modem. No problem.
After putting the Arris into bridge-mode, all motion alerts stopped working. No changes were made to any other device settings, just bridge-mode being setup on the Arris. Why would this effect the alert settings from the camera? The 8910s are all connected via WiFi to my personal network (not the one from the Arris) so does anyone have any idea as to why this change halted the alerts from working?
It is sort of a networking mystery to me.
I would appreciate any help in figuring it out as the alerts were super helpful to me. Thanks in advance.
Arris TG862G was originally supporting these features when motion control alerts was AWESOME:
DHCP - Enabled
WiFi - Enabled
Bridge Mode - Off
After adjustments with motion control alerts now being nonexistent:
DHCP - Disabled
WiFi - Disabled
Bridge Mode - Enabled
