[Equip] Slower speeds with SB 6190 than with SB 6120??

This will take some time to explain, so bear with me. I just purchased an Arris SB6190 modem since Xfinity said that my old modem, a Motorola SB6120, was no longer supported. The 6190 was listed on Xfinity's site as supported, but I gather from the discussion here that it's a very new product. Imagine my surprise then when the 6190 yielded noticeably and measurably lower speeds than the "unsupported and out of date" 6120. 39% slower!!! Here is my 6120 set up: Model Name: SB6120 Vendor Name: Motorola Firmware Name: SB_KOMODO-1.0.6.14-SCM03-NOSH Boot Version: PSPU-Boot 1.0.0.4m1 Hardware Version: 1.0 Serial Number: 186901901301399XXXXXXX Firmware Build Time: Jan 22 2015 14:31:03 Lights are: Power: Green Receive: Blue Send: Blue Online: Green Link: Blue (indicates Gigabit connection to router) 6120 Signals page attached 4 bonded channels downstream and 3 up. Subscribed to Blast and am not sure if it's supposed to be 105 or 150. Lines from pole to house were replaced last month. Speed Test results with SB 6120 http://results.speedtest.comcast.net/result/1100713884.png Ping: 15ms Down: 117, Up: 12.5 Mbps on Chrome This is connected to a Belkin F7D4301 running DD-WRT v24-sp2 (03/25/13) mini - build 21061 The computer is connected by Gigabit ethernet to the router. This is the same setup for both modems. No firewall or VPN for these tests. Here is my 6190 set up: All I have done is moved the coax and ethernet cables to the 6190 and plugged it in (with the 1.0A power supply provided) From factory reset and once the modem stabilizes the lights are: Power: Green Receive: Blue Send: Green Online: Green I'm sent to the modem activation page at https://activate.comcast.com , login and activate the modem. Once activated and manually rebooted the modem lights are: Power: Green Receive: Blue Send: Blue Online: Green Modem details: Manufacturer: Arris P/N: SB00DXD6190 S/N: F9JRX323330XXX Standard Specification Compliant ARRIS DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem / Retail Hardware Version 3 Software Version 9.1.93D Cable Modem MAC Address D4:04:XXXXXXX Speed Test results with SB 6190 http://results.speedtest.comcast.net/result/1100780644.png Ping: 16ms Down: 84, Up: 12.1 Mbps on Chrome 6190 Status page attached. 16 bonded down and 3 up. I'm going to replace the cable from the Comcast splitter to the modem on the off chance that that is the problem. I'm 2 seconds away from sending this 6190 back as defective to Amazon so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

[Equip] Comcast says Arris TM822G won't work with voice service

This came up in another discussion but some there thought it was worthy of it own topic. A Comcast employee has posted this in Comcast's own forums: http://forums.comcast.com/t5/Voice-Service-and-Equipment/TM822G-is-not-an-approved-retail-device-for-phone/td-p/2528169 "Hi all, It has come to my attention that some customers are having issues with TM822G for voice service. The TM822G is not an approved retail device for voice service and as a result will lose phone provisioning as well as dial tone. There are only two approved retail devices for phone service, these are the TM722G and TG862G. If you have purchase a device outside of these two, it could work for some time, but eventually the issues will begin with the phone service. I apologize for the inconvenience regarding this. This might change in the future, to look at an updated list of retail devices for phone service go to http://mydeviceinfo.comcast.net/ click on the retail check mark and look for the Telephony devices."

Four days ago on October 31st, caps where in place in the following areas: Huntsville and Mobile, Alabama; Tucson, Arizona; Fort Lauderdale, the Keys and Miami, Florida; Atlanta, Augusta and Savannah, Georgia; Central Kentucky; Maine; Jackson and Tupelo, Mississippi; Knoxville, Memphis and Nashville, Tennessee; and Charleston, South Carolina. Now their FAQ shows the following areas are being capped: Huntsville, Mobile and Tuscaloosa, Alabama; Tucson, Arizona; Little Rock, Arkansas; Fort Lauderdale, the Keys and Miami, Florida; Atlanta, Augusta and Savannah, Georgia; Central Kentucky; Houma, LaPlace and Shreveport, Louisiana; Maine; Jackson and Tupelo, Mississippi; Chattanooga, Greenville, Johnson City/Gray, Knoxville, Memphis and Nashville, Tennessee; Charleston, South Carolina; and Galax, Virginia. So Tuscaloosa, Alabama; Little Rock, Arkansas; Houma, LaPlace and Shreveport, Louisiana; Chattanooga, Greenville, Johnson City/Gray, Tennessee; and Galax, Virginia are newly capped areas. New Comcast data plan email

Got an email today in all my mail boxes notifying me of a new data usage plan...for my area. My son streams a lot but so far don't think I've gotten too close to 300 GBs. I searched a little so hopefully this is not a dupe of a nationwide plan. My topic showed some links to earlier(2013) topics of same subject.quote:An important update about your XFINITY Internet service Hi jbob We’re writing to let you know that we will be trialing a new XFINITY Internet data plan in your area. Starting December 1, 2015, your monthly data plan will include 300 GB. We will also trial a new “Unlimited Data” option that will give you the choice to purchase unlimited data for $35 per month in addition to your monthly Internet service fee. The median usage for XFINITY Internet customers is 40 GB of data in a month. And based on your recent usage history, it appears this new 300 GB data plan will not impact you. If you are not sure of your monthly data usage, please refer to the Track and Manage Your Usage section below. Here are the details of the plan: While we believe that 300 GB is more than enough to meet your Internet usage needs, if for any reason you exceed the 300 GB included in your plan in a month, we will automatically add blocks of 50 GB to your account for an additional fee of $10 each. We’re also implementing a three-month courtesy program. That means you will not be billed for the first three times you exceed the 300 GB included in the monthly data plan. Here are the details of the Unlimited Data option: If you don’t want a 300 GB data plan, the new Unlimited Data option is an alternative that provides additional choice and flexibility, especially for customers who use lots of data. You can choose to enroll in the Unlimited Data option at any time for an additional fee of $35 a month, regardless of how much data you use. Enrollment in this option goes into effect on the first day of the subsequent calendar month. For additional information, click here. Here are a few tools for you to easily track and manage your usage: Usage meter – Track how much data you have used each month with our usage meter. Data Usage Calculator - Estimate your data usage with our calculator tool. Simply enter information on how often and how much you typically use the Internet, and the calculator will estimate your monthly data usage. Notifications - If you are on the 300 GB plan, we will send you a courtesy "in-browser" notice and an email letting you know when you reach 90%, 100%, 110%, and 125% of your monthly data usage plan amount. You can also elect to receive notifications at additional thresholds as well as set up mobile text notifications. Learn more about notifications here. Notices will not be sent to customers who enroll in the Unlimited Data option. If you have any additional questions about the new data usage plan, please see our FAQs. Thank you for being an XFINITY Internet Customer. Sincerely, Your XFINITY Team Please note that this is a consumer trial. Comcast may modify or discontinue this trial at any time. However, we will notify you in advance of any such change.

[Connectivity] Help on Modem Dropping Offline

I live in a big residential 2-story apartment complex and I'm using a rented TG862 gateway. Over the years I've had occasional problems with modem rebooting / dropping offline. The last time it happened, a tech came out and replaced the wall plate / coax connection and installed a grey brick that says "Comscope Subscriber Amplifier". That really helped for about a year, and now I have problems again. The modem drops offline, and the only way to (eventually) get it going again is to pull the power plug and disconnect/reconnect the cable for a bit. The reset button alone usually won't get it to go back online. I don't have any problem with TV or VOD service. Front line phone support was not helpful and they could only suggest swapping the modem or schedule a tech visit (with a 1-2 week backlog). I copied the current signal info from the modem below... Any suggestions, or should I just get the tech out here again? Thanks. [Connectivity] Intermittent Comcast packet loss

$

Location: Katy, TX (Houston) 10/9: Lost internet (I don't have cable TV). 10/15: Tech comes out and tells me that my line was cut due to ingress. He reconnects my line. It appears to work fine. 10/16: I trade for a living, and my connection to the exchange started disconnecting several times a day. After troubleshooting I realize that its due to packet loss, so I schedule an appointment. 10/27: A tech came out and tested the line at the point it enters my house. He said there was still ingress, so he re-ran the line from the tap to my house. Still had ingress, so he disconnected my neighbor, and the ingress apparently ceased. (It is just my neighbor and I on this tap). I didn't have any issues for the remainder of the day. 10/28: Getting dropped packets again, even though my neighbor is disconnected from the tap. Every time I'm disconnected from the exchange, I check the smokeping I have running, run a DSL reports real time ping test, and then run a pingtest.net test, and they all report the same thing... dropped packets. I've got another tech coming out tomorrow but I'm at my wits end here as this is really affecting my work. Prior to 10/9 I never had any recurring issues for the past 5 years. All of these issues occurred after 10/9, when the line was cut.

[Connectivity] Weird block on mychamberlain.com? [SOLVED]

I am experiencing weirdness. It appears that https://www.mychamberlain.com is blocked somewhere outside of my home network. The app on my phone does not work on wifi but works OK off wifi. If I use a web browser on either my macbook or raspberry pi I get: The requested URL was rejected. Please consult with your administrator. Your support ID is: 11679954564233862802 Even using curl on the Raspberry Pi gets that which tells me it is outside my network. Or, at least, either the router, which hasn't changed or the modem (SB6183 which IS new but really can't cause this sort of thing, can it?) [IPv6] SB6183 IPv6 problems

$

I had a perfectly running IPv6 config on my Zoom 5341J, routed through my Linux server, which looks like this: p3p1 (WAN) is accepting RAs and has a link-local IPv6 address only. bond0 (LAN) is allowing forwarding and is assigned a static IP from the /64 PD obtained on p3p1. DNSmasq is serving DHCPv6 and SLAAC, doing RAs on bond0. With the Zoom, the local Linux server, Windows machines, and mobile devices all passed http://test-ipv6.com perfectly, and quickly. With the only change being the SB6183, here is what I see: -Windows machines work fine and pass the test quickly every time. -The local Linux server and mobile devices sometimes pass and mostly fail, with no consistency. Furthermore, the tests are very slow to run, even if it does pass. When it fails, the errors are all over the place (no IPv6 address, large packet (PDMTU) failure, browser blocking test URLs, no direct IPv6 access, etc.) - I've seen combinations of them all! Anything IPv6 related done directly on the server works, but is very slow or stalls entirely (example - wget on http://download.thinkbroadband.com/1GB.zip, which is IPv6). DNS lookups via Comcast's IPv6 DNS are instant. Almost seems like an MTU issue somewhere along the line that Windows isn't having a problem with, which may also explain these in dmesg (lots of them): [22257.883035] Peer 0000:0000:0000:0000:0000:ffff:0c2f:ae63:49925/80 unexpectedly shrunk window 1023049849:1023051199 (repaired) [22259.075034] Peer 0000:0000:0000:0000:0000:ffff:0c2f:ae63:49925/80 unexpectedly shrunk window 1023049849:1023051199 (repaired) [22275.339033] Peer 0000:0000:0000:0000:0000:ffff:0c2f:ae63:49925/80 unexpectedly shrunk window 1023238849:1023240199 (repaired) I've tried just about everything I can think of and it's leading me to some problem with the 6183 - I've even completely disabled the firewall and all associated rules on the Linux server, and direct access from the server still fails testing. Any thoughts on this?

Not sure which form to post this... but do we have to get a phone call from Comcast every time we post an issue in the Comcast direct forum? Honestly, I post there because I don't want to deal with phone calls... but every one I've ever posted there I've gotten a call from Comcast security or Comcast executive personnel asking me to call them back about the issue posted.... to me this defeats the purpose of opening a ticket online... I want to do it all online, not deal with someone else on the phone after starting it in a forum ticket... the last question I posted I've gotten two calls from them asking to call back with a ticket number... I honestly don't have time to call back, that's why I went this route... posting something quick here is one thing, taking time to call in talk to someone for who knows how long is another.... I didn't post this in direct because I was wondering what others thought of this also...

Slow Upload Speed, Local Peering Issue?

I've been experiencing a weird problem with my upload speed that I just don't see in the SpeedTests. In the past few weeks, I've been encountering buffering issues whenever I try to remotely stream from my Plex server located in San Jose to my house in Fremont (~15 miles away). I've checked the SpeedTests for the San Jose connection and it gives me the expected results (Blast 150/10). http://www.imagebam.com/image/c568d0444918124 However, if I run an iperf test from San Jose to Fremont, the connection at San Jose is uploading at an avg of about 3.6Mbps. http://www.imagebam.com/image/5984d4444918307 If I reverse the iperf test, I see that Fremont is able to upload to San Jose at about 11.1Mbps (Comcast Business 50/10, Speedtest results of about ~60/12). http://www.imagebam.com/image/ad0f40444918300 I also tried an iperf test from San Jose to the public Hurricane Fremont iperf server and it gave me slightly better result (6Mbps). All of these tests were done with no other device on the network. I experience this issue throughout the day (doesn't seem correlated with peak time congestion). I've included my modem signals http://www.imagebam.com/image/3c0cca444918303 and traceroutes between San Jose and Fremont and vice versa. http://www.imagebam.com/image/08212e444918309 http://www.imagebam.com/image/342435444918310 What could be the issue and how do I get this fixed?
