[Equip] Arris TM722G vs SB6183

I am currently getting a 134/12.2 speed on my internet connection with a TM722G modem. I am on the 150 tier. Is switching to a SB6183 modem likely to increase my speed? Thanks.

[Connectivity] Recent lag and packetloss while gaming

This issue started on or around 10/27. It does not seem to affect anything but online gaming. One game (Unreal Tournament 4) mistakenly thinks I am speed hacking when my ping increases and lag issues cause me to "teleport" around in a jerking manor. Another game (Red Orchestra 2) just has a higher than normal ping and frequently jerks around due to packetloss or lag. Since this issue has started I've tried the following things. Restarted modem and router. Upgraded router from a 802.11n to a 802.11ac and upgraded wifi adapter firmware. I've tried multiple game servers without luck. Raw speedtests and pingtests don't show the issue. But "quality" is given an F. The only thing that I can think of it being is some bad nodes in my network. Here are the results from this site's line quality test: http://www.dslreports.com/pingtest/nil/3349498

[Speed] Performance Starter speed increase

With all the big gun tiers getting upgraded this month, Comcast also quietly increased the speed of Performance Starter tier from 6/1 to 10/2. The website reflects the new speed and I just reset my modem, testing consistently 11.4 / 2.4 (standard 25% over-provision) in Houston, TX. Looks like the Economy and Economy Plus did not change.

[Speed] Comcast throttling Youtube speed at peak hours?

At 9 pm est every night, I can no longer play HD quality videos on youtube. It happens every night and last for about an hour or two, I can play other website videos at HD quality just fine and can run streaming services at HD with no issue, both 720p and 1080p, only youtube slows down. What's some good ways I can track down this issue to see if it's my ISP or not?

[Connectivity] CenturyLink.com blocked?

I'm in Portland, OR using Comcast Blast service and haven't been able to connect to www.centurylink.com for 2 days (I'm attempting to switch to Prism and Gigabit fiber). I've tried changing DNS settings, different browsers even different computers, but I'm unable to connect using my Comcast ISP. I have no problem using my smartphone to connect via Verizon (but not using WiFi). Before I get all in a tizzy, is anybody else having this problem or have any suggestions?

[Price] Cost of Performance Starter (10/2)

$

I have been wondering if the advertised cost of Performance Starter of $49.95 was excessive so, I did a search on the cost of internet (10/2) internationally and came up with this site: http://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/prices_by_country.jsp?displayCurrency=USD&itemId=33 It surveyed 121 countries and ranked them in terms of cost from the most expensive to the least. Namibia was the most expensive ($178.71) and Ukraine was the cheapest ($3.88). The US was $48.89. The average of all countries was $39.72. Now remember, this is for UNLIMITED DATA. When you include the $35/month proposed add on for Comcast’s uncapped data offer in some areas of the US (which I’m sure they want to implement nationally) you get $49.95 + $35 = $84.95. That now places Comcast at 9th from the top in terms of the most expensive internet. Is this a rip-off or what?

[Equip] Comcast says Arris TM822G won't work with voice service

This came up in another discussion but some there thought it was worthy of it own topic. A Comcast employee has posted this in Comcast's own forums: http://forums.comcast.com/t5/Voice-Service-and-Equipment/TM822G-is-not-an-approved-retail-device-for-phone/td-p/2528169 "Hi all, It has come to my attention that some customers are having issues with TM822G for voice service. The TM822G is not an approved retail device for voice service and as a result will lose phone provisioning as well as dial tone. There are only two approved retail devices for phone service, these are the TM722G and TG862G. If you have purchase a device outside of these two, it could work for some time, but eventually the issues will begin with the phone service. I apologize for the inconvenience regarding this. This might change in the future, to look at an updated list of retail devices for phone service go to http://mydeviceinfo.comcast.net/ click on the retail check mark and look for the Telephony devices."

[Connectivity] Comcast Outage (node down??)

Recently my entire subdivision lost their Comcast Internet (and TV). Issue was due to a fallen tree. I was told the "node" was down. My question is, if I live in a medium+ sized subdivision with multiple entrances why was the whole subdivision out. My house is on the opposite side as the tree that fell. I am near one of the other entrances, which has Comcast wires on the poles. So shouldn't a signal have come in that way? I mean it's all one wire right? Forgive me ignorance.. But if someone could explain this I would greatly appreciate it.

looks like NETGEAR CM600 is official posted and available on Amazon now. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B01621M1S4 It is a 24x8 version variant of CM500 (16x4). It is also posted on mydeviceinfo.comcast.net and Cox website (http://www.cox.com/residential/support/internet/article.cox?articleId=c5090a20-7375-11e5-d061-000000000000). Looks like missing item is TimeWarner as of now.

[Rant] RANT:Current customer told I cannot upgrade to Blast Pro

Current LONG time Comcast customer. CO now (Denver area and IL for decades before that). Blast internet only subscriber. I attempted to upgrade to Blast Pro via the website after logging in. Not trying for a promo - not trying to get any sort of loyalty discount. Nothing. Just a current customer who's paying $82.99 for Blast wanting to pay $89.99 for Blast Pro. Order went through although I didn't receive any sort of confirmation email. Upgrade never occurred. After several DM's to @comcastcares and eventually an email to We_Can_Help@cable.comcast.com, I receive this answer: "I apologize, but in order for you to get the Blast Pro tier, you will need to have more than just the stand alone internet. This means you will need to have a bundled service to qualify for the Blast Pro service. As a standalone internet customer, at this time we are not providing the Blast Pro tier." YET AS A NEW CUSTOMER I CAN ORDER BLAST PRO AS A STAND ALONE INTERNET SERVICE! I just entered my neighbor's address and I can order Performance Pro and Blast Pro all day long. Even get a promo discount for it. Yet a current customer can't upgrade to it. I have no knowledge of current telecom laws or decisions or what not. Is this legal to sell a service to only new customers but not current ones? -- You can't walk a straight line girl... if you're wearin crooked shoes

I live between the towns of Mooresvile, IN Morgan County and Plainfield, IN Hendricks county. I'm in Hendricks county but have a Morgan county address. I'm trying to meet with Comcast to see if my house and 10 others could get cable ran to us. I have spoken to all households and they have agreed to subscribe to Comcast if it was available. I even have that in writing from all households. I have attached a picture so you can get an idea. Cable is all around us. In the picture the blue lines are where the cable is now, it extends further that the picture. The red circles are the homes which would subscribe if cable was brought to us. Any suggestions on how to approach this with Comcast would be greatly appreciated.

Four days ago on October 31st, caps where in place in the following areas: Huntsville and Mobile, Alabama; Tucson, Arizona; Fort Lauderdale, the Keys and Miami, Florida; Atlanta, Augusta and Savannah, Georgia; Central Kentucky; Maine; Jackson and Tupelo, Mississippi; Knoxville, Memphis and Nashville, Tennessee; and Charleston, South Carolina. Now their FAQ shows the following areas are being capped: Huntsville, Mobile and Tuscaloosa, Alabama; Tucson, Arizona; Little Rock, Arkansas; Fort Lauderdale, the Keys and Miami, Florida; Atlanta, Augusta and Savannah, Georgia; Central Kentucky; Houma, LaPlace and Shreveport, Louisiana; Maine; Jackson and Tupelo, Mississippi; Chattanooga, Greenville, Johnson City/Gray, Knoxville, Memphis and Nashville, Tennessee; Charleston, South Carolina; and Galax, Virginia. So newly capped areas are as follows: Tuscaloosa, Alabama; Little Rock, Arkansas; Houma, LaPlace and Shreveport, Louisiana; Chattanooga, Greenville, Johnson City/Gray, Tennessee; and Galax, Virginia. Here's an article about the Chattanooga area: http://www.timesfreepress.com/news/business/aroundregion/story/2015/nov/03/comcast-charge-extra-heavy-data-users/333808/ EDIT: Looks like Tuscaloosa was already capped but not listed as an affected city and some ZIP codes in Texas near the border with Louisiana are capped now too. Those Texas ZIP codes are 75639, 75642, 75672, 75685, and 75692. See affected ZIP codes showing today and compare it to this

[WiFi] Xfinitywifi with security?

I had thought this had been discussed before, but couldn't find a thread specifically about it.... Today I tried to connect to a strand-mounted Xfinitywifi AP. In addition to the open Xfinitywifi & Cablewifi SSIDs, there was also an "XFINTIY" SSID which appeared to be protected by PEAP authentication.... Is this active/available for customers to use? What should I enter for the "Identity"? -- no place like ::1

[Speed] Side Discussion About Gigabit Deployments

$

Anyone know if Comcast has actually started installs? I live in the west palm beach, fl market announced for deployment this month. So far phone agents don't know anything of the service. I've been told by different agents, 2016, June and it'll be in the system tomorrow. None had even heard of the service before I inquired and they did a bit of research, so I went to out local sales office to inquire in person. There I had to show them the press release, to which they simply said its not yet available in the market. Seems like this was a pure fiber to the press release hail marry announcement to try to salvage the dead merger. Mod Note: Report actual receipt of Gigabit service here -> https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r30084813-Speed-Report-Gigabit-Pro-Service-Here Side discussion here, please. Keep it on topic. [Speed] Comcast modem/router WiFi speed weirdness

$

I have the Comcast tower modem/router and have BLAST Internet. I got the "free" (yeah right, I was charged $10 for that actually, since removed when I modified my services to lower my bill) download speed boost from 50 mbps to 75 mbps on October 1. I have a relatively new laptop and Tablet PC. The boost was giving me download speeds (at the Ethernet connection too) at 88-89 mbps. Pretty darn good. About a week later, and nothing had been changed or altered, I did a speed check and the WiFi speed had reverted back to the old BLAST speed rating of 50 mbps. I checked the Ethernet connection and the boost was still there at nearly 90 mbps. I called Comcast and talked to someone in advance tech support and he accessed the unit and made some changes, including renaming the network and changing the password. Still the old BLAST speed. He then said I'll try one more thing and while he was doing whatever he was doing, he told me to run a speed test which was just crawling along ever-so-slowly. He told me to close out my browser (Firefox) and open it back up and do a speed test. Lo & behold, the WiFi was back to a stunning 88/89 mbps. I'm not a techy mind you and I asked him what he had done. He said he had changed the channel/freq on it. Some users have a channel that is high, some low and mine was somewhere "in-between". He also had duly noted that sometimes if changes are made in the room, the unit is relocated, some object gets in the way like a metal chair or another nearby wireless network interferring, this could cause speed problems. I checked for a few days and the WiFi speed boost was holding nicely. Then it suddenly reverted back again to old BLAST speed of 50 mbps. Called Comcast and again talked to someone in advanced tech support and I told him what had happened previously. He said he was surpised that i was getting speeds that high on WiFi, and said that he was pretty good at troubleshooting the particular unit. He tried several things but still the 50 mbps. It's weird that it worka perfectly and then it doesn't. At least it's consistant at the Ethernet connection but I really can't take full advantage of a direct connection, so back it will go and I'm not sure if I should get a direct replacement or just get the standard modem and buy my own router?

I have the new SB6190 and previously had the SB6183. I have correctable and uncorrectable errors on 2 of the 16 channels. This is consistent on both modems. The last reboot of the modem ws a few hours ago. Any suggestions on how to fix this issue? Thanks. Jim

[Caps] Is Comcast blaming data caps on state government agreements?

$

I cancelled my service today because of the data caps. The retention specialist told me that the caps are because of state agreements. Or did she? Am I misinterpreting what she was saying? EDIT: I was just made aware of this document: http://myfloridalegal.com/webfiles.nsf/WF/MRAY-7J4RL3/$file/ComcastAVC.pdf Having read that now, it could be that she was trying tell me that what Comcast was doing was in compliance with state regulators. The way she initially phrased it though would be more along the lines of it being a state requirement. Have a listen (55 second mark is where it begins): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l1e8dPuRkl8 At the 1 minute mark, this exchange begins... Me: I don't want to do business with a company that enforces its caps. Comcast: Well sir, that's part of being in an agreement with the state there. Comcast: Other companies accept *if they are subjecting *CROSSTALK UNINTELLIGIBLE* the cap and they have to abide by it as well. Me: An agreement with the state? You mean, you're being forced to do this? Is this what you are telling me? Comcast: All states don't have it. Some states do. Comcast: But the state of Florida does. Me: You said this is an agreement with the state. You're talking about the state of Florida? The government? Comcast: Right your county...uhh...and your state. Yes. If they have that agreement there, then we're gonna abide by, you know Me: I'm sorry *bleeped out her name*, you're either blatantly lying to me or your're very, very misinformed. The government if not forcing Comcast to impose... Comcast: I didn't say enforce it sir.
