[Caps] Extreme 250 in ATL market - no cap?
Called into Comcast and asked about pricing on their Extreme 250 package. The rep looked up my address, looked up the pricing, and said "$100/mo, and this one doesn't have a cap like the others do."
So, is this a formal exception in certain markets that have the actual data caps on Performance, Blast, etc, to where Extreme 250 is exempt? Anyone else have this happen? Can someone verify before I sign up? :)
Also, thought it was curious about the pricing being $100 instead of $150. Rep said it's the "new price" because of Gigapower and Google Fiber entering the market.

[Install] Getting Comcast service to my new house
Good Morning, first time poster here.
I am just just about finished building a new home here in Vermont. We are 550' from the road/pole with Comcast. We have conduit in the ground with pull string in it. It's a straight shot, level ground. The first guy that came out for Comcast said his rg11 cable could no way go that distance. I would need someone else from Comcast come out for a site survey. SO what am I looking at for cost for service? He mentioned plant extension maybe.
Thanks,

[Equip] Confused on modem and router
Hi, we currently use the comcast provided modem/router and would like to start using our own. The comcast one is slow, we don't have great service throughout our house etc. So I ordered the Arris Surfboard sb6141 modem and the asus rtn66u router. Last night we tried installing and ended up needing to call comcast and was told the sb6141 is no longer supported by comcast. ok fine. I also ran into an issue where I have a land line and there was no phone jack in the router. My question is, am I even right in thinking the phone line goes into the router? I am trying to find a new router with phone jack but some things I've read/seen make me thing the modem is what takes the phone jack? I'm starting to confuse myself. As far as needing a different modem I think I am going to try the next model up from the 6141, the 6183. Any recommendations or advice? Thank you!

[Speed] Modem Speed Question
I have blast (150 down/10 up) with an SB6121 modem. My current top speed is 138 down (IPV4) and 97 (IPV6). Would there be a reason I'm not getting full speeds? And why is IPV6 slower? Would it be worth replacing the modem for a little more speed or just leave things as they are? Thanks for your help.
(I have a gigabit speed Ethernet card installed and a N600 Netgear gigabit router)

[IPv6] IPv6 connectivity up and down
Been looking at IPv6 performance on the DPC3941T router, here on ASN 7922 - Branford CT. Iffy! Works fine for several hours, then it loses v6 connectivity for several hours. Eventually it comes back. (Always OK after a router reboot.)
Only hint of what's happening is on the router's firewall log: significant error rates. At the moment I have:
FW.IPv6 FORWARD drop, 18 Attempts. 2016/1/18 00:12:30 Firewall Blocked
Of course that's not much of a diagnostic. From another router I tried, I was seeing ICMP6 errors, so maybe that's it.
So, how to attack this? Is it a common issue? Does anyone get good results with this setup? How would you recommend to resolve this issue?
It's a real pain when some services (esp. Google) get unhappy when IPv6 switches off -- they don't go to v4 easily.
No problems with v4 here. Latest speed test indicates 175 Mb/s download.
TIA

[DOCSIS] Bufferbloat Trial - Any News?
Just wondering what has been going on with the Bufferbloat trial. I still have the test equipment set up, and to be honest I forgot the end date.
Has Comcast finished collecting the performance metrics?
↧
[Connectivity] Bufferbloat Question
We've had a rather rock-solid Comcast connection to the internet until a few weeks ago when an ice storm brought down all kinds of trees, power lines, and any such-attached Comcast equipment. Four days later it came back up.
We went on a cost-cutting run after Christmas and I scaled our internet back from 75 to 25 (we did and still do have a single phone line, as well). Right before I made the change we had a few issues with the internet but I didn't look closely into them. They've persisted and break VPNs, games, etc., etc. I returned to this site for the first time in years and found the Speed Test and the concept of bufferbloat.
A thought's crossed my mind: is it more likely that this is a hangover of the equipment replacements or moreso something that's occurred from me having downgraded our speed?
Thanks for any constructive input!

[Equip] Router lease time
1) Your location: City and State. Loveland, CO
2) A description of the problem.
For the last three days now the lease time in my router has only been 1 hour when it should be 3 days. I have to reboot the router and I get a new IP address. This works and by the next day I have intermittent connection issues until I reboot the router. Router is a WRT54GL flashed with DD-WRT. It has been solid for at least 8 years now. I read that when lease times are an hour they are working on the servers or something. I called Comcast and the guy said there wasn't any work being done.
3) Is the issue intermittent, constant or does it occur at a specific time of day?
Intermittent
4) Your modem make, model & firmware version.
Model: TG862G
System Software Version
eMTA & DOCSIS Software Version: 7.6.116
Packet Cable: 2.0
This is my modem: http://mydeviceinfo.comcast.net/device.php?devid=320
5) Describe any home networking if applicable.
WRT54GL connected to Comcast modem through bridging. All computers connected through LAN. One laptop and smartphone use WIFI from router.
6) List any firewall and/or anti-virus software you have installed. Include what version you have.
N/A Has nothing to do with my issue.

[Speed] Comcast throttling Youtube speed at peak hours?
At 9 pm est every night, I can no longer play HD quality videos on youtube. It happens every night and last for about an hour or two, I can play other website videos at HD quality just fine and can run streaming services at HD with no issue, both 720p and 1080p, only youtube slows down. What's some good ways I can track down this issue to see if it's my ISP or not?

[Equip] Visio stencil for Ciena SDS?
I'm trying to diagram a Comcast enterprise network in visio but not sure what is the "Accepted" symbol for a Ciena SDS box? Is it just a switch, a type of router? what would you use? It's a Service Delivery switch, but I cant find what people consider a stencil for that description... not 100% sure what functions this box does besides fiber handoff switching...
any Comcast net engineers know what symbol to use? thanks

[Plan] Help choosing service for new home
We are moving to a newly built home and need to determine what we want in terms of Internet & phone service.
In our present home, we have Comcast HSI (bill says it is Performance plus Blast) for $80 which I think is supposedly 75/10, but speed tests give it around 90/12. We still have ATT telephones --2 lines; 1 business and 1 personal and pay a total of around $150 total for phone services after tax (including long distance) which makes the total of HSI plus phone around $230 after tax
I've been looking on line (really don't want to call yet -- I have a couple of months time) to try to figure out pricing for similar services. I've been looking at the Comcast business plans, but to get what I have now it looks like it would been more expensive than what I've got.
With Comcast home I can't even find a package with both phone and internet with fast enough HSI to look at.
Ideally we would also need 2 directory listings -- one for the business and one personal.
What are the best plans to consider -- what's the best way to look at this?
TIA
