[Equip] Comcast says Arris TM822G won't work with voice service
This came up in another discussion but some there thought it was worthy of it own topic.
A Comcast employee has posted this in Comcast's own forums: http://forums.comcast.com/t5/Voice-Service-and-Equipment/TM822G-is-not-an-approved-retail-device-for-phone/td-p/2528169
"Hi all,
It has come to my attention that some customers are having issues with TM822G for voice service. The TM822G is not an approved retail device for voice service and as a result will lose phone provisioning as well as dial tone. There are only two approved retail devices for phone service, these are the TM722G and TG862G. If you have purchase a device outside of these two, it could work for some time, but eventually the issues will begin with the phone service. I apologize for the inconvenience regarding this.
This might change in the future, to look at an updated list of retail devices for phone service go to http://mydeviceinfo.comcast.net/ click on the retail check mark and look for the Telephony devices."

[Plan] Comcast Gigabit Pro Question
I currently have a UVerse Gigapower connection to my apartment, as well as a Comcast Business Class connection as a backup. My building is relatively new so the cables coming into the units are inside of a network cabinet. I have one coax line, a fiber line, and a bunch of ethernet lines that run throughout my apartment.
I'm wondering if given the cables I have access to I'd be able to upgrade to Comcast Gigabit Pro 2gbps? Does it come into the unit via coax? Or is it ultimately fiber? If it's fiber I have a feeling I wouldn't be able to have both Gigapower and Gigabit Pro at the same time. Though I'd really like to. I would bond the connections for a 3gbps-ish line speed just for the heck of it.
Thoughts?

[Signals] Acceptable incomming powerlevel
I have read https://www.dslreports.com/faq/16085 and now I am left with the question of what is an acceptable minimum power level coming into the house?
I live in Houston TX and have service with Comcast (150/10).
modem is SB6183
software version D30CM-OSPREY-1.5.0.1-GA-01-NOSH
I have been having horrible download speeds since approximately Dec 17 2015. Since then I had have 2 techs stop by and check the issue. I still don't have a resolution but tomorrow a 3rd tech will stop by and check things out again. My modem currently shows -19 dBmV for downstream power. The tech tested the incoming power outside and it read -7dBmV. I just don't see how -7dBmV incoming is good enough to put me within an acceptable value by the time it gets to my modem as I will have to split it once and that is not taking into account the cable length. If I understand it right ideally I will have close to 0 coming in and assuming I loose 4db for splitting once and 4db for 100' cable that should put me nicely very close to the recommended levels.
Both techs thought this might be contributing to the problem and opened a ticket with another group. However the other group does not seems to think this is problem.
Will someone please shed some light into what should be the minimum power level coming into the house for HSI for a modem such as mine SB6183 ?
Thanks in advance.

[Speed] Side Discussion About Gigabit Deployments
Anyone know if Comcast has actually started installs? I live in the west palm beach, fl market announced for deployment this month. So far phone agents don't know anything of the service. I've been told by different agents, 2016, June and it'll be in the system tomorrow. None had even heard of the service before I inquired and they did a bit of research, so I went to out local sales office to inquire in person. There I had to show them the press release, to which they simply said its not yet available in the market. Seems like this was a pure fiber to the press release hail marry announcement to try to salvage the dead merger.

[CustSvc] Two Customer Owned Modems - Comcast won't remove
I have two modems I own, One is a very old SB5120 and the other is an Arris WMB760a. I'm moving an transfering my current account to someone else and opening a new account. I'm taking my Arris WMB760a with me and leaving them my old SB5120. I've switch the SB5120 to be the primary modem by calling comcast however they will not remove the old modem. They are trying to claim the WMB760a is owned by comcast and do remove it I need to return it to the customer service center? How do I get them to remove this?
The SB5120 is the one I bought when I opened the account (I bought the modem on Amazon). And I bought the WMB760a about a year ago I think. They removed the SB5120 just fine from the account then but the WMB760a on my account does not list "CUST OWNED MODEM" beside it on the list of modems on my account like the SB5120 does. What are my options? They don't care about receipts or anything only that their account shows they own it (even though I've never had a comcast owned one, nor been billed a fee for one).

[Speed] Very slow uploads - Extreme 250, Arris 6190
I recently upgraded to the Extreme 250 plan from Blast. I replaced my SB6141 with a SB6190 to take full advantage of the speed. For the first week or so I saw 250-290/20-25 speeds. Then I started noticing that my nest cam was blinking almost daily from lack of connectivity to the servers. Now, my speeds are 250-280/1-8. No download problems at all just greatly decreased upload speeds that vary quite a bit. Sometimes the upload portion of the speedtest refuses to run. No changes to my configuration. Going direct (not through router) doesn't change anything. All signal levels are ok. Comcast came out and couldn't find the problem. They moved my outside line to a different hub/splitter thing on a different pole to no success. Someone from "maintenance" is coming out today to investigate further. Any ideas?

[Connectivity] Lingering Ice Storm Damage Advice, Please
We've been using Comcast for internet and voice for some six or seven years now. After an upgrade here or there we were at 75/15 (I think it was 15 down, anyway) with an Arris TG862G/CT on lease acting as a modem only. I have my own router, TPLink Archer C7 Vr.2, with many wired and wireless devices served through a Netgear GS724T switch and multiiple Netgear ProSafe Gigabit switches as edge devices. I also have an ASUS RT-N66U wired to get wireless distributed more evenly throughout the house. My wife works from home with a VPN to her work.
Just after Christmas the area was hit with a terrible ice storm. Power poles, which carry a lot of Comcast equipment (amplifiers, etc., I believe), were down all over the area. We were lucky and were only without power for 15 hours. We didn't have internet and phone for 4 days. That's how long it took some of my neighbors to get power back. At any rate, my wife and I were talking about ways to save money and, admittedly, we don't need 75/15. So downgrading our connection and getting our own modem hit the to-do list. Just before I made the call to Comcast I noticed the internet wasn't working very well. It even dropped my wife's VPN a couple of times as well as a gaming session or two from console and/or PC (both wired). At the time I just set up a ping to a Google DNS server to monitor the connection and didn't think too much more about it. I called Comcast to get a new contract set up for 25/5 and voice. Cut our bill in half, btw. I also ordered, and have since received, an Arris TM822G.
IIRC, there was a drop that morning before I made the call. Within 45 minutes of the call the internet dropped at least 3 times. These, like others, came back after a few seconds but obviously broke VPNs, caused timeouts on web pages, etc. Ping times skyrocketed and no replies would show up. After it settled down I tried a quick speed test (not from this site) and saw speed had dropped to 25/5. But, at the same time, when running the speed test, ping times took off and ping replies stopped. A modem reset here, a router reset there, and I'd look at it the next day. Same issues.
I started calling Comcast and went through their silly routines while being dropped no less than three times. I asked if the modem had the latest firmware, bootfile, and was configured in bridge mode. Firmware yes, bootfile no, bridge mode no. More resets, dorking around, and time on the phone ensued. A tech appointment was finally made and that was three days off. After another day of a couple of drops, the day before the tech was to arrive all went well with the internet. Of course, I wasn't stress-testing it, etc. So, dumb me, I canceled the appointment. The day the tech was due everything went to pot again. Another call, talking with multiple people, another tech appt made - again I had to wait for three days. That's when I remembered DSLReports and how they'd helped me when I was on AT&T's internet. I quickly dug into the tools and learned what "bufferbloat" was. I also talked to the neighbor who said he's had TV and internet issues. His tech is due out today.
The tech arrived with a dead meter so he decided to plug it in to charge it while making a new drop cable for the house. When his meter had charged well enough he found that there was no trouble with the original drop or with his new drop and, for unknown reasons, decided to leave his new drop and to tell me someone would come bury it in the spring. He also escalated the call or some-such saying it was a "line" problem.
Later that day a Comcast veteran tech showed up and we discussed what had happened. He was nice enough to remove the prior tech's cable, restore my original drop, and do a little tweaking at the box on the border of our yard. When he was finished I ran the speedtest again and the results were the same: nasty bufferbloat was accompanied by dropped packets and high ping times. Line quality went up for what that's worth. He said he'd done what he could and he'd talk to his supervisor (or someone) back at the office that knows about these "network things" and ask him to give me a call. Predictably, I've had no such call for days now.
I posted in Comcast Direct on the 18th. I unintentionally hit reply when trying to edit my original post and I understand that will delay the reply. But I've noticed that the Comcast tech(s) will come around for a couple of hours every couple of days and make some replies. I've gotten no nibbles from them yet.
So, after all that, I'm looking for some advice. I've downloaded the appropriate Open-WRT firmware for my router which should have the anti-bloatware technology available for activation in it. I still want to swap out the modem. I'm afraid to change anything until such time as someone (who's qualified) takes a real look at the problem. IIRC going to the local office and asking to talk with anyone won't get any results. Also, I know that talking with Comcast by phone is a huge runaround and will just get me another tech out and we've seen how successful that's been.
Anyone have some good, constructive advice on how to deal with this problem?
Thanks!
(and thanks for reading all that - jeez)

[Equip] Comcast email to upgrade my modem legit?
Hi Forum, QQ: Recently received a notification that my modem needed to be upgraded. I've got the Docsis 3.0 Motorola Surfboard/Aaris (?) with the blue lights in the front (61xx?), I pay for the Extreme tier 150, I max out around 180mbps.
Now I thought this modem was good for 8x4??? Is my Extreme tier going up to 200, 250 or 300?? I thought this model was good to about 300, with overhead.......Just curious if I should simply buy a replacement or give my existing hardware a little more time.
And if the option is to replace, what's the one people are flocking to now?
Thanks for Reading.

[Speed] Amplifier and Bufferbloat?
When I "upgraded" my Comcast TV service to X1 about a year ago, they installed a Commscope amplifier (with 5-way splitter). Previously, I did not have an amp with my Comcast service. At that time I had their 105Mbps service, which has since been upgraded to 150 Mbps.
A few months ago, I dropped the X1 boxes and switched to TiVo via Comcast Cablecard, still having the 150Mbps service. I am currently using an Arris SB6190 modem with TP-Link 1GHz wired router/DHCP.
Recent speed tests show 179Mbps down and 12Mbps up, but with bufferbloat at D or F. The modem has no QOS settings. I have tried adjusting the QOS on the TPLink router to improve bufferbloat, but when I set the up/down max rates lower (e.g. 12/150Mbps), bufferbloat improves to B, but the download speed drops to 100Mbps.
Two questions:
1) Might the amplifier be contributing to the bufferbloat?
2) Why is my download speed dropping to 100Mbps when I set to router QOS download max to 150Mbps?
Thanks for any insight you can provide.

[Connectivity] Jitter / lag spikes every 30 to 45 seconds!
1) Your location:
Denver, CO
2) A description of the problem:
I get very regular lag spikes every 30 to 45 seconds. This is of course terrible for online games. Smokeping shows average packet loss of 2% in the last 24 hour period. Manually pinging an external server such as 8.8.8.8 shows response times of 9-10ms, but then it will jump up, sometimes just to 500ms, and sometimes over 3,000ms, occasionally even dropping the packet completely.
Speedtest is fine, it doesn't seem to impact streaming, but even when downloading the transfer speed will drop to 0 for a few seconds. This is even sometimes seen on the speedtest speed graph.
The issue affects any and all devices, both wired and wireless.
3) Is the issue intermittent, constant or does it occur at a specific time of day?

Comcast has done it again! Lied to a customer
Comcast agent lied to me, long story short I called Comcast with my neighbor( he is 76) to lower his Comcast bill. My neighbors bill was $280.00 a month for TV and Internet only.. The agent in the cancel dept said he can keep the same services and the bill will get lowered to $168 with taxes and fees. We all agreed to the deal.. I go back to my neighbors house 3 days later and log into his Comcast account online and it shows voice services pending. We NEVER agreed to the voice service, we call Comcast back and the cancel dept didn't seem to care , we asked for a mgr and one will call us back on Monday.. I highly doubt the mgr will call us back...
He doesn't want voice service with Comcast and the fees and taxes for the voice service isn't worth it.
Any idea what to do?
