Numerous disconnects / timeouts, running out of ideas

I currently in NJ, paying for 200Mbps service. I am having frequent disconnects / T3 and T4 timeouts with my HSI. This issue is intermittent, we may go a day or two without issue, then have one or two timeouts / disconnects in a day, then a day like today where I get multiple disconnects per hour. This has been happening for the past two months or so. Today 02/20/17 I've had disconnects at 18:33:58, 19:26:29, 19:30:49, 19:31:00, and 20:23:43. I've had a tech visit about a week ago. He thought the issue was corroded connections coming into the outside splitter, all connections were replaced, but it did not fix the issue. After reading this forum, I thought the 6-way splitter being used (Antronix 2006V) might be making the signal too low (upstream often below -8.0dB, downstream often be above 50.0dB), so I replaced it with a 3-way Antronix 2003V. After that the signal levels were much improved (downstream +0.2dB to -0.6dB, S/N 42.2dB to 40.4dB, upstream 43.8dB to 42.3 dB). Unfortunately after this the disconnects / timeouts continue. I've also replaced the original Arris SB6183 modem with a Netgear CM600 and my current Motorola MB7420. The Netgear and Motorola both show better signals than the Arris - but all three have had the disconnect / timeout issue. BTW, my son said once that other kids in the neighborhood had an outage at the same time as us, but I don't have enough info to claim this is an issue for the area. I really don't want to just have another tech come out again to say the signal is fine, and get charged $40 for a service call. But beyond calling again, I'm wondering what else I can try. Thanks. Okay, I've tried everything I can think of but I don't know whats going on. Before I start, this only applies to one device (my Asus S400ca). I have it hooked up to a gigabit ethernet and have tried both of my routers (T-Mobile Cellspot/Netgear R7000) and still performance is noticeably below our provisioned speed. Whats weird however is all of my other devices (even over wifi) perform better. Any ideas? So far I've rebooted the computer multiple times, updated the drivers, disabled my VPN, firewall, and switched DNS servers. Interestingly enough, this problem started around a week ago.. What I'm used to.. http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/5957595736 What I've been recently been getting... http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/6068717262

[WiFi] The Secret of the Hidden SSID Revealed

$

(Update for TG1682G 6/25/16, see: https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r30835010- ) I had some time today to mess around with friend's Comcast gateway today and I think I've made a lot of progress!! This is for those who don't want to contact support to have their hidden SSID turned off after bridging or for those who use the gateway as their main network and want to remove the SSID. I was looking at the page(using F12) and I saw a network in there labeled as a public Wi-Fi hotspot. It was listed as ".hide" and it came with the SSID of "XHS-(last 8 digits of CM mac)." There was also a reference to something along the lines of a "home security ssid" being listed as SSID 3 or something like that. I can't remember exactly. Could it stand for Xfinity Home Security? Who knows! I heard a few other options for it too :). Even if it was for xfinity home security(as some people rumored it to be for a while), it seems like they ignored that path. So, I decided to have a little fun with it. I typed in the SSID I saw hidden in the page(with a random password) and tada, the hidden SSID showed itself. I still didn't know the password which kept me a little curious still. Then I thought, what if I just have some fun with the URL? I clicked on the wireless settings for the 2.4 GHz radio and was given the link http://10.0.0.1/wireless_network_configuration_edit.php?id=1 . I saw the 5 GHz radio was id=2, so I plugged id=3 at the end. That's when I was given a "Public Wi-Fi Network Configuration (2.4 GHz)" page. There it provided me the option to enable or disable it. I tried finding "xfinitywifi" but it didn't work :(. As a little extra thing, I also discovered there were a lot of MoCA settings hidden away. If you go into F12 and get rid of everything with "display:none" you are presented a much larger array of settings. I never checked to see if the settings stuck or not. Let me know if they do. I wish I had more time with the gateway to see what else I could find. Disable this before it's locked out from access :). Go go go! Note: This was done with a dual band gateway. If someone has a single band, let me know how it goes with the URL changing. Here are some of the links - (Dual band residential gateways(YYMV) - DPC3939/DPC3941T/TG1682G): 10.0.0.1/wireless_network_configuration_edit.php?id=3 - hidden SSID ( Note: May have been changed to 10.0.0.1/wireless_network_configuration_edit_public.php?id=3 ) 10.0.0.1/wireless_network_configuration_edit_public.php?id=5 - xfinitywifi (reported by VONF) 10.0.0.1/wireless_network_configuration_edit_public.php?id=6 - xfinitywifi (reported by VONF) Note: TG1682G had been locked out as of this edit, unless reported otherwise. [Plan] Comcast is coming! (to my complex)

Apologies for the lossy .jpg image. EDIT: Apparently it's not lossy. I did the editing with my Galaxy Note 4. Thank goodness that there will be another wireline company to serve this apartment complex which I reside in. So after Comcast install their equipment necessary to provide this complex service, would anyone recommend what plan/bundle to choose from them? I don't want the fake phone service from them though. I need reliability. Right now, I'm paying DSLExtreme $32 I believe for 6Mbps ADSL (after the introductory contract got renewed) and Southwestern Bell around $50 POTS w/ unlimited long distance and plenty of features to use. EDIT2: For those of you who cannot read due to throttled or unstable connections, the following text on the e-mail will be transcripted. Comcast is coming!! Comcast is scheduled to begin their work in the middle of January (around the week of the 16th). It will take approximately 90 days to complete. They will be working from the street in, and cannot jump around to do individual units. This will be a large project which may cause some inconvenience and/or distraction. We apologize for any noise or interference this project may cause to your daily life. We are proud to be able to bring this much needed service to your community.

Colorado Springs, CO ARRIS DOCSIS 3.0 / PacketCable 2.0 Touchstone Telephony Modem HW_REV: 2 SW_REV: 9.1.103M2D.SIP.PC20.CT MODEL: TM822G No home network other than a direct, wired LAN connection to a single PC. Same browser always used and same sites visited daily. No need ever for large amounts of upstream capacity. On the modem status page I've seen a constant four upstream channels in the past, but there's only one now. Why?

My son is moving into a small apartment and it is served by ComCast. He want's to buy his own router, modem, or whatever he needs for internet only service (No TV). Am I correct in assuming he'll need a cable modem / router combo. There will be multiple devices and streaming taking place. My assumption is ComCast will deliver service with a coax connector. Thanks in advance for your help..

[Equip] CM1000 vs SB8200

Since AFAIK these are the only 2 commercially available (and I use that term loosely) D3.1 modems I was thinking a comparison might be in order, and to avoid it getting buried in the D3.1 modems thread I figure it should have it's own thread. So from what I know SB8200 Pro's 2 Ethernet ports (though without any real defined use.) CM1000 Pro's Lower cost Please add to this. Also does anyone have the powersupply specs of the SB8200? I know the CM1000's Power supply specs are 12v1a. (which for me that's nice as I have a high quality regulated 12v powersupply that I'd be able to use.)

[Equip] CM600 Overheat

I replaced an SB6141 last August with a CM600. It's located in an unheated garage, on the upper shelf in a cabinet. Until recently, it's operated fine. However, about a week ago it locked up - not accessible by web browser and not passing any traffic. Reset power without looking at it and everything was fine. One week later, same symptom. This time I looked at it and noted the power light was solid red, no other lights lit. Reset power and it works fine. Looking at the manual, solid red indicates an overheat problem and suggests making sure the modem is installed vertically. The shelf it's currently on has limited height, so it's laying flat. I'll have to do some reconfiguring to get enough room to have it vertical. It's strange that I'm seeing an overheat problem in the middle of winter in an unheated garage and not last August. Anyone else have a similar problem?

eMTA + New DOCSIS 3.1 modem.. CSR not budging

Ok, so what's the trick now days to get a stand alone emta for voice plus a modem for data on your account? I used to have this back in the day when DOCSIS 3 first came out and all they had was D2 eMTA's but to quote the phone CSR's I keep getting... "This is not allowed, you can't have two modems on an account" and "You can use one of our gateway devices if you want a newer modem" then go to offer me a D3 device....... I even got "You need our device for the X1 system" which is a bunch of BS especially since I don't have X1 devices... I have tivo's I own the eMTA at this location and I want to get a D3.1 modem also there since we have OFDM channels already enabled. If I try self activation will it mess up the emta? I'd assume yes?

[Other] DPC3939 - How do I remove a reserved IP address

$

My laptop says I am connected but have no internet. When I look in the Gateway it says it has a reserved IP address, but I do not remember setting that up. However, it does not show an iPv4 address. I wanted to start by taking the reserved iP address off, but I do not see a way to do this. If I click on the X at the right of the listing it only allows me to block it. I did a chat with Comcast and got nowhere. First, of course, he wanted to check line quality so tested and restarted the router. Then he wanted me to do an ipconfig / release, and restart my PC. I didn't think that made any sense, but he said that would allow me to get a new iP address from them. I told him that wasn't the issue, it was a router config issue. He then suggested I unplug the router for 2 hours to see if that cleared it up! So, I am hoping someone here has some better knowledge of this gateway and can tell me how to remove the reserved address listing from the router.. I've attached a screen shot of what I am looking at. Thanks

1682 for voice only shows 2.4 & 5GHz lites, but no SSID?

Hi, I just ported our uverse phone to comcast this a.m. and activated the leases 1682 for voice only (my cm600 handles data). the phone is active, but the 2.4 and 5Ghz lights are lit on the 1682. the 2.4 flashes steady. i only looked on my iphone for SSID's right on top of the 1682 and i don't see a broadcast SSID. the CSR insists the 1682 is blocked from the internet. when using the 1682 for voice only, should the 2.4 and 5Ghz lights be lit? is it broadcasting a hidden SSID. can i connect a laptop to the 1682, set a static IP in the range of the 1682 and access the radio setup? i ran out of time to try this morning but wanted to see what the community says. Thanks, jeff

[Speed] Question about Gigabit Pro Service

$

Interesting. I called yesterday about Gigabit Pro and received a follow up call today saying they think I can get it, as there are three possible nodes I could connect to. I asked about any promotional pricing and they said there was nothing. I'm going to keep pushing the subject. In the least bit, I'd like to get some of the installation charges dropped. Are there any other service providers in your area offering similar services? Mod Note: This post split out of the Gigabit Pro Report topic, off topic there. It is in response to > https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r31207148- uid://455626

Gigabit Pro Users, do you regret getting it?

I've started the process of finding out if Gigabit Pro is "truly" available at my home. Comcast called me back today and verified it looks like my home is able to connect to one of three nodes but they need to do an on-site survey to verify for sure. I'm kinda stuck on the price. I was hoping they'd have a promotion in my area like some have been able to get; or even at a minimum drop the construction or installation fee or reduce it, but the agent I talked to said there were no promotions in my area. I asked if anyone else in my neighborhood had the service and he said no one else he could see has it. I currently have their fastest cable tier, Extreme 250. I'm definitely a power user (software developer, computer nerd) and can see the appeal of this product. I'm trying to convince myself if this is something I really need or if I just want it for the coolness factor / bragging rights. Does anyone who has had it installed regret getting it? Thanks!

Hello, I've installed DD-WRT/Tomato firmware on several wireless routers successfully - can I do the same to an actual cable modem? I have two of these cable modems - one I rent per my cable bill and the other one is free and clear, so I want to return the one I'm renting to avoid the monthly charge, and wipe the firmware on the other one and use it as my primary cable modem? I checked the is my router supported page on dd-wrt but answer wasn't clear to me based on the chipset.....and if cable modems with integrated wifi can even be flashed with 3rd party firmware? Just looking for base info - thank you
