Honestly I think this has been going on since around 2000 when Comcast was AT&T. I got back with them about a year ago and it will work fine for a few weeks and then start having issues again.
Most recently TV & internet would cut out frequently. They found some signal ingress somewhere else and fixed it but the upstream power was very high so I kept complaining. There were some outage, my modem got fried, and then things seem to get better. For the past two weeks the upstream power level has been at around 32 (I've never seen it that low, usually be around 47-51) uncorrectables were at a shocking 0 across the board and corrected less than 20 on each channel.
Today it rained and the upstream signal level is back to 47.25 dBmV, some downstream channels show thousands of corrected and uncorrected. It's not like I'm watching my modem logs all the time, only reason I bothered to check was because I tried visit a website and it timed out.
What exactly does Comcast need to check and fix to get the service reliable? Oh and Comcast loves me so much my posts in the Direct Forum simply get ignored.

[Caps] Unusual Data Usage
Howdy all!
Just hit 800Gb of my 1024GB bandwidth limit this morning and found this very unusual. Typically I am at around 300-400GB a month. Here were some of my findings from checking devices at home. Wondering if anyone has an idea or has experienced something similar.
80GB - Xbox's (primary form of entertainment, most usage) - since 2/1
35GB - Computers - (last 30 days)
.3GB - Amazon Echo - Maybe an hour or two of music streaming - 300MB (at the most extreme)
115.3GB sub-total
That leaves almost 700GB that would have been used by iOS devices in the house. I use mine a lot but mostly web browsing. My wife does a fair bit of web browsing and some Snapchat. My son uses his iPad a couple hours a day for YouTube Kids.
I spoke to Comcast and they asked if password secure, someone else have access etc.. I told them very secure password, no viruses (born out by low bandwidth on PC's) and checked devices connected to router and none are suspect. I did update my password and lock down the network but more as precautionary.
Hard pressed to figure out where 700GB's went in 13 days. That is a TON of data. My last months usage was only 371GB for the whole month (146GB of that being Xbox traffic).
I realize I can exceed the limit twice without incurring fees but I'd prefer to determine where these numbers came from. Anyone have ideas?

internet denial because of "older" modem
I just talked with my daughter and found out that she called Comcast because her internet was not working. Was told that soon they would not accept her modem (ARRIS SURFboard SB6141 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem).
What is going on here ?
Is it a money grab ?

[WiFi] XInfinity wifi - I don't understand
OK, my Xfinity router offers a "2.4GHz" channel, a "5 GHz" channel and an "Xfinity wifi" "hotspot" channel. The latter has no password. I understand I can turn the latter channel entirely off. So people can use my wifi without a password if I want. OK, I get that. But if Xfinity wifi is turned on for everyone, why do I need password protected channels at all?
What is the frequency of the Xfinity wifi, and is the bandwidth even the same as for the others?
I guess my "2.4GHz" and "5 GHz"channels don't even offer the option of not needing a password. Is that the reason? That is, if I'm content with password unprotected access, I just forget about the "2.4GhZ" and "5GHz" channels altogether. Seems a bit squirrely. It would be more sensible just to have two channels, and let me decide it I want passwords for them.

[DOCSIS] SB6190 vs SB8200 (2016 DOCSIS 3.1 modem)
Now that I know Comcast has 24 download channels in my area I'm torn between upgrading to an SB6190 or if I should just wait for the SB8200 DOCSIS 3.1 modem to come out next year.
While Comcast seems pretty gung-ho about DOCSIS 3.1, if the SB8200 retails for $300 it may make sense to just pull the trigger on the SB6190 now.
While my SB6183 is working just fine, it's always nice to be able to use the extra download channels in case my neighbors get 4K TVs for Christmas and start streaming UHD content. :D
I've had really good luck with Arris modems, so the $20 difference between the 32x8 SB6190 and 24x8 Netgear CM600 isn't really a factor.

I've removed the TVs in the house and had the cable modem be stand alone, same issue still crops up (RG6 coming into house plugged directly in the cable modem. Comcast RG6 connectors were put on when Comcast installed, so it's not the aftermarket handyman special.)
How do I convince Comcast there's an actual issue they need to fix here? TV service blinks in and out about the same time the cable modem service takes a nosedive.

[Connectivity] Dropping DHCP lease times... maintenance scheduled?

prior to Feb 2 - lease time had been the usual 345600
Thu Feb 2 - lease time drops from 345600 to 84600.
Wed Feb 8 - lease time drops to 7200
Thu Feb 9 - lease time increases to 84600 (maintenance cancelled due to snow storm?)
Tue Feb 14 - lease time drops to 7200
Looks like Comcast may be trying to fit some weekend maintenance into the picture. I wonder what is changing?

[Equip] Motorola MB7420 vs. Netgear CM600
While trying to determine if my modem was the source of recent disconnect problems while running Xfinity 200Mbps service, I've tried my original Arris SB6183 (16x4), the Motorola/Zoom MB7420 (16x4), and the Netgear CM600 (24x4). I've noticed that both the Motorola and the Netgear consistently provide a 1.5dB to 2.0dB advantage in Downstream and Upstream power levels. I'm not sure if this is a design issue with the Arris or the unit is malfunctioning, but I'll probably keep either the Motorola or Netgear for future use.
That said, is there any real difference between these units? The Netgear provides 24 channels, but only 16 of them are ever used. In contrast, the Motorola uses a "full band tuner" that allows any of the allocated channels to be used, and I've seen that channels in the 17-24 are often in use. i wouldn't mind future proofing, but I'm not planning on stepping up to DOCSIS 3.1 anytime soon, and 200Mbps should meet my needs for the forseeable future
Any suggestions appreciated, thanks.
Edit - BTW, is the limit of 16 bonded downstream channels unusual for Comcast? Is this based on my service level? Or perhaps just a local restriction? And i guess this would make a 32x8 modem like the Arris 6190 or Netgear CM700 a waste of money?

Escalation Contact?
Does anyone have an escalation contact within Comcast/Xfinity? A tech showed up at noon today (unannounced) to bury the cable in our yard. He left and our service has been down since. The modem is not connecting. I have been through 4 peopl eat Comcast support and the "best" they can do is get a tech out here on Saturday afternoon! I work from home, so that is unacceptable. The last supervisor I talked to promised to call back in 30 minutes or less. That was an hour and a half ago.

[Connectivity] Puma Chipset question.
I have had a leased ARRIS TG1682g gateway for less than a month and am considering giving it back and buying a replacement. I understand that this gateway uses the Puma Chipset which may have problems. Here is a screenshot of the Cable Modem Puma 6 test. I'm not sure what this means, but would it be good reason to replace this gateway? Other minor issues include the gateway indicating several devices are ethernet when they are actually wifi.
If I decide to buy what would be a good replacement modem/router? My profile Xfinitity profile is 100/5 and I have 32 bonding channels locked with good specs. I posted them at...
