Hi
I have a question regarding the data cap that I can't seem to find the answer to anywhere. I know I could call Comcast, but I don't exactly trust the information I would get from the CS reps. (been burned before)
I need to pull data from my online backup so I know I'm going to go over the data cap this month. I haven't ever gone over the cap since I got one, so I still have the two courtesy months available to me. My current plan is to use one of the courtesy months to get my data back locally.
Does it matter how much I go over the cap? (IE doesn't matter if it is 1 byte of data VS 10 TB of data?) My fear is that they will pull some kind of shenanigans and say the courtesy was only good for 50 GB of overage and then pillage my wallet for $200.
Thanks,
bdnorcal

[Moving] Service Unavailable, Construction cost?
I am moving soon and I called the Mover's Edge to transfer service. They told me a tech has to look at it. I gave them a week and never heard anything.
I called back and was told that service is unavailable because construction is required. I asked what kind of construction and was told a cut-in/splice was needed. I asked when can that be done and they didn't know what cut-in/splice was so they couldn't tell me. I asked how much it would cost and they didn't know.
Anyone out there have this happen and have a ball park estimate for how much that would cost? Or do I just need to move on to find something else?
Thanks in advance!

[Caps] Does a home VPN go against my data cap?
I recently set up a raspberry pi for pi-hole to block ads on my network. Really liking it so far. I wanted to be able to use it when I wasn’t home as well as have some extra security so I set up a VPN server on that same raspberry pi. Does the data that I use while the VPN is on go against my cap?

[Connectivity] Packet Loss to Sunnyvale, CA?
Hey guys im new to this forum but im hoping you guys can help me out since i found this problem on this site itself... i always have some packet loss for some reason with comcast and i can never figure out how to fix it, and the last 4 times ive done this test over the last few months it shows me getting loss to Sunnyvale, CA location from comcast. Im not sure what any of that even means really but i know that it makes the internet fail and lag pretty miserably, so maybe you guys know how to fix this? Here is a screenshot i got from the test showing the loss - http://imgur.com/a/ZNxT2

[CustSvc] Comcast refuses to help becasue I can't get to my bill online.
My cable modem just stopped working.
I called up comcast from the same number on my account, verified all my personal information like I always do but instead of helping like they normally do this guy refused to help because he wanted my account number too( even though they knew it already from the phone number)
I have paperless billing so I don't have any paper statement and I needed Internet to get to my bill.
I don't know why in the past they have always help but this one guy refused to help. I called back later and the next person helped me get it working.
Has anyone encountered an unhelpful comcast rep and goes above and beyond NOT to help you.
Thanks

[Signals] Why are channels 17-24 immune to correctable errors?
Netgear CM600 modem, Winder, GA area.
I've noticed this before. Channels 1-16 get a handful of correctable errors - no big deal. What's odd is that channels 17-24 seem immune - they never seems to get correctables even if the lower channels are up in the hundreds.
Is this believable? Is each set of 8 channels handled by a different internal chip, and could the third chip be more forgiving?
This seems too consistent to be just random.

[Connectivity] Is Comcast Xfinity purposely slowing SB6141 modem connections?
I have the basic 10 Mbps plan with Xfinity and a black Motorola SB6141 modem (I own it), it's all I really need. It was working fine up until about March 1, when my connection came to an almost grinding halt. How slow? How about 1 mbps down or slower, consistently, according to Speed Test.
My latest speed test was 0.39 down and 0.07 up. I'm about ready to dig up my USRobotics 56K modem and a couple of AOL free hours CDs if this keeps up.
I made no equipment changes, no software changes, no cabling changes. I rebooted my SB6141, my gateway, and my wap. I released/renewed the WAN IP in the gateway. No change, I have an internet connection but it's super-slow on all my devices -- laptop, Roku, Android.
I called Xfinity and they sent a reset command to the modem. No change. They said my SB6141 is "end of life, no longer supported" and I need to buy a new modem that is supported.
Did Xfinity roll-out a firmware push recently that is purposely slowing down the SB6141?
Will buying a SB6190 which is support cure this problem?

[Plan] Promotional Rate- Is this Ok?
My promotional rate from last year just ran out so I called Comcast to see what kind of deal they could give me.
They offered me Premier Double Play with Blast internet for $129.99/month for 12 months. I don't need phone service. The price seems ok to me, but I wanted a second opinion from you guys.
I have two HD cable boxes, two standard cable boxes and two digital adapters. After all the taxes and fees, the total monthly bill would be $202.00.
Like I said, I think it's a pretty good price, but let me know what you think. Thanks!

[Signals] Node or Amp or Pedestal Issue? Signals are crazy
Over the last week or so, my downstream power levels have risen from around +6 dVmV to +15 dBmV while my upstream power levels have lowered from 42, 45, 43 to 40, 41, 39 dBmV.
I have already ensured that the coax connectors to all my equipment are tight and secured. I have checked all wiring and no visible damage can be seen. I rebooted my SB6190 and the levels still remain. Along with the huge number of uncorrectable and correctable codewords.
I am beginning to think that a truck roll is necessary.
For what it's worth my underground drop was replaced in July 2016, so I do not think that the line is bad already.

[Signals] Tech came out and did some work, how to my signal levels look?
A tech came out due to some issues with my X1 boxes (hardware malfunction) and while he was there he said that my signal levels didn't look too hot. He took out some splitters, and ran some new cable.

[Plan] Gigabit Pro Users, do you regret getting it?
I've started the process of finding out if Gigabit Pro is "truly" available at my home. Comcast called me back today and verified it looks like my home is able to connect to one of three nodes but they need to do an on-site survey to verify for sure.
I'm kinda stuck on the price. I was hoping they'd have a promotion in my area like some have been able to get; or even at a minimum drop the construction or installation fee or reduce it, but the agent I talked to said there were no promotions in my area. I asked if anyone else in my neighborhood had the service and he said no one else he could see has it.
I currently have their fastest cable tier, Extreme 250. I'm definitely a power user (software developer, computer nerd) and can see the appeal of this product. I'm trying to convince myself if this is something I really need or if I just want it for the coolness factor / bragging rights.
Does anyone who has had it installed regret getting it?
Thanks!

[CustSvc] Yeah, I get it you increased our speeds
Did Comcast really have to send not just one email last week but all of my Xfinity email accounts received multiple emails today.
How long is this going to go on? Xfinity is its own worst spammer.

[Speed] Upload Speeds Unacceptably Slow
I am in the Chicagoland area and for the last month I have been getting very low upload speeds. Up until this week, the upload speeds seemed to be good until evening. I had someone out on Monday and on Tuesday some outdoor work was done, something to do with unplugging something that was in the wrong spot. Since then the upload speed has been low all day and today the download speeds have fallen too. I have the Extreem 105 package, which has been upgraded to 150/25 speeds. My usual speeds for the last month has been 125/7.5 during the day, 125/5 at night. Today speeds have dropped to 90/5 all day. I don't know if this matters but if I test the connection at a flash site, my upload speed comes up over double that of testing it on a html site. I have tested it on all the magor sites and I use the comcast test for all documenting because I am afraid they will question other tests. At times the upload speeds drop so far down that we lose connection altogether. I am just getting the run around from Comcast and if I could at least know where to go from here it would help.

[IPv6] SB6121 IPv6 loss
I am experiencing an issue where after some period of time (maybe a day, maybe a week), my IPv6 stops working. I have the SB6121 connected to Synology's RT1900ac. It's set to DHCPv6-PD, with the appropriate UDP ports opened and ICMPv6 allowed. If I disable and re-enable DHCPv6-PD on the router, it seems to get IPv6 going again. If I disconnect and reconnect the ethernet cable between the RT1900ac and SB6121, it doesn't fix anything. If I reboot the SB6121, it gets IPv6 going again. I've emailed Synology support and they think it's an issue with the SB6121. Does anyone else have this issue?

[Speed] Internet slowdowns in Shelton, CT area?
Pay for 100mbps and only getting 67mbps over wired ethernet. I typically get over what I pay for, as the past year I've had a stable 115mbps. It almost seems like it's hard capped at 67mbps. When I do the speed test, in the middle of the test, I sometimes see it peak at 110mbps and then quickly drops out to a high 60mbps/low 70mbps, but most of my results are at 67mbps:
http://speedtestbeta.xfinity.com/results/J0DYH3S2YB6COA6
I've already chatted with a tech and they sent a reset signal, tried boosting the signals, had me reset it, etc. They did everything they could outside sending a tech, but I don't want to deal with a tech unless it's a last resort, as I lose money from work waiting around for them and rarely home on the weekends.
I've tried bypassing my router and direct connecting the modem to the PC and it's the same result.
My signal info from my modem:
http://imgur.com/a/x4nuB
Could it possibly be because I'm running a 3 year old modem (SURFboard SB6121) that is EOL according to Comcast? Do these older modems usually go bad so soon? I see they say they still support customer owned ones, but is it a possibility it's going bad or something?
Any help is appreciated, thanks.

[DOCSIS] SB6190 vs SB8200 (2016 DOCSIS 3.1 modem)
Now that I know Comcast has 24 download channels in my area I'm torn between upgrading to an SB6190 or if I should just wait for the SB8200 DOCSIS 3.1 modem to come out next year.
While Comcast seems pretty gung-ho about DOCSIS 3.1, if the SB8200 retails for $300 it may make sense to just pull the trigger on the SB6190 now.
While my SB6183 is working just fine, it's always nice to be able to use the extra download channels in case my neighbors get 4K TVs for Christmas and start streaming UHD content. :D
I've had really good luck with Arris modems, so the $20 difference between the 32x8 SB6190 and 24x8 Netgear CM600 isn't really a factor.

[WiFi] Hot spot(s) not passing traffic
Had to crash at a friends and forgot to get the wifi password before settling in. No bother! Xfinity hot spot with screaming signal and 5Ghz signal. Sweet! Assigned an IP and that's about all she wrote. I've had this happen more times than not! I was using and iPhone 6 and my Android last night. I have a friend who has the trouble from time to time, too! What gives?? Comcast's hot spots are of little use and provide lackluster service. Sad.
