I am moving to Chicago in the next couple of weeks. I am looking at Comcast Xfinity and RCN. I see Comcast talks about 3 different gateways on their site https://www.xfinity.com/support/internet/about-the-wireless-gateway/.
I am considering either Blast 75, Extreme 150 or Extreme 300 and I am wondering which gateway you get with each one.
Also, can you rent a modem only? If so, which one? If you can't rent one, what is the most poplular one people get that supports up to Extreme 300?

[Price] Is the $70 Gigabit/unlimited data/3-year contact still available
I had my service installed on 12/31/16 around the Chicago suburbs. I inquired about the $70 deal and was told it's not available to me, I tried to press as hard as I could to get it, but they said there is no promo for that. Ok fine. So I am paying $139 a month for gigabit...has anybody got it recently? Is it still available? I can get Gigapower from AT&T and Fiber from Metronet is coming soon...

Business To Residential & ETFs
A couple years ago I signed up for two business class triple plays in order to entice Comcast to extend service to my home. You can read about it here: https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r30061825-Install-8000-Plant-Extension
Long story short, today I was told by a business class support lady that by signing up for a new residential account at the exact address of a business account, they would cancel the business account and waive any termination fees associated with the cancellation.
I understand the pros/cons of resi/business, so no need to discuss that here.
I simply wanted to put the info I was told out on the internet for others to find/know. Hope it helps someone.

[Equip] Actiontec ECB6200 bonded MoCA bridges with X1 boxes - help!
Hey all
Last year I asked around about help regarding setting up MoCA in my home with a very weird and not at all ideal network topology. Eventually I managed to get that to work by replacing the amplifiers with a rare sort that explicitly bypasses MoCA signals, the PDI-MBA-101-A. (In general amps today do not seem to bypass MoCA even if they are branded 'MoCA' in some way.)
In any case. That is all in the past. I decided I was sick of the old RNG150 boxes and DTAs and that we should move to X1. In accordance with that, they found and removed almost all hidden splitters, save one in the attic, and had all lines otherwise come straight out of one amplifier.
Now. The MoCA bridges are Actiontec ECB6200 bonded-channel models, and we were outfitted with 1 XG1v3 DVR, 1 XG2v2-P box, and 4 XiD-Ps. While those boxes work,
1) the fact that the XG1 and XG2 boxes' firmware has MoCA set to use version 1.1 rather than version 2.0 makes for a maximum speed (which I only got a few times) of 100Mbps down;
2) after some actual use of the boxes (*not* while they are being used, but after they have been - see #3 below) the maximum bandwidth decreased again, to like, 40Mbps and even worse,
3) while the boxes are in use - even if just for live TV and not anything else that would require the boxes' MoCA connection (e.g. the DVR), speedtests decrease even more, to about 25Mbps - no better than a marginal powerline-based network - and regardless of the speedtest, internet delivered over MoCa remains too spotty to use: Netflix stays on SD streams less than 1Mbps large, Plex needs to transcode to a very small stream, etc.
There is nothing in the cabling that could be causing this, to my knowledge. Unplugging all the X1 boxes and leaving the Actiontecs in yields full bonded MoCA speeds. One of the bridges is sharing a spot with my modem (the coax comes out of the wall, goes to the bridge, and then goes from the bridge to the modem) which worked without issue before: I got full 240/12 down speeds on my modem and my MoCA speeds did not suffer either. The other bridge is next to the XG1 DVR, but the passthrough function didn't work (again, it did with the first bridge and the modem) so I put a known-good MoCA-rated 2-way splitter there and had one output go to the DVR and one to the ECB6200. Again, as long as I unplugged all X1 devices, MoCA worked at full speed.
Checking the ECB6200 settings - they are at their defaults, of 1150Mhz/Band D Extended. This is reputedly the only setting that works at all. I did try using different bands but this deteriorated speeds and performance whilst actively using X1 boxes even more severely.
I can't be the only person who wants to use MoCA (particularly bonded, but really any sort) for home networking, while also using Xfinity X1 boxes. In fact, I found one person who successfully got it working at this Reddit thread - and he even managed to get 2.0 to work with the addition of an XB3 gateway (which I refuse to do) - but nothing in his thread would suggest that he ever suffered from these interference issues.
This could very well be a dealbreaker: if I can't fix this, I'll try to move back down to the old RNG150 boxes while I still can. I would love to avoid that, though. So, please, if anybody has any ideas as to how to get the ECB6200s to play nice with X1, I'm all ears.

Should I call Comcast
I have an owned SB6183 on a Internet only Xfinity plan.
Recently I've noticed a very (in my opinion) high uncorrectable and correctable error count.
The modem log has dozens of repeating error pairs in any 24 hour period.
Should I call Comcast and what do I tell them?
Is this something worth bothering DIRECT about?
Full disclosure. I don't really notice any degradation but I have a load balancing router
with a UVerse alternate connection so it might be masking any problems.
Thanks,
J

why does Comcast phone suck so bad ?
Just an overview. In a test we called both phones. One is ATT wireless phone, another is Magic jack , and yet another is Phone Power.
MJ and phone power had missed one 1-2 calls we tested, and it sounded like an idle time issue.
ATT phone missed 3 calls but they made it vm
Comcast missed 10 calls and didnt make it vm.
Now ATT wireless offers telemarketer protection by simply hitting a field. MJ offers it for business accounts, and so does phone power even for personal.
Comcast requires lengthy steps. Which is pathetic. Comcast cant have a single field like a real phone company?
Its actually cheaper to get a ATT prepaid phone for a home , then Comcast.

[Speed] Side Discussion About Gigabit Pro & earlier Gigabit Deployments
Anyone know if Comcast has actually started installs? I live in the west palm beach, fl market announced for deployment this month. So far phone agents don't know anything of the service. I've been told by different agents, 2016, June and it'll be in the system tomorrow. None had even heard of the service before I inquired and they did a bit of research, so I went to out local sales office to inquire in person. There I had to show them the press release, to which they simply said its not yet available in the market. Seems like this was a pure fiber to the press release hail marry announcement to try to salvage the dead merger.

Why is it so hard to get a problem resolved with Comcast?
I've been having outtages very frequently for a little over a month now, they said they would be fixing it so I waited, it became far worse today so I called them, they set a reset signal and it worked fine for several minutes before the call support noticed and his words "Everything is all red on my end." so he scheduled a technician but all I got as an answer was "Keep your availability open from now (June 2nd) until Thusday (June 8th)"
With as much as I pay this company for internet and it being one of my main sources of income, combined with working a job that is 6 am to 4 pm. It's just about impossible to actually get anything resolved when their schedule windows are so open. I know it's probably not easy to find technicians to work for Comcast. The problem is all ISPs are like this, I'm not expecting same day technician service, but I at least don't expect to be told to just keep waiting for an entire week and we will contact you whenever. They have a tendency to not leave a message as I have my phone entirely off during working hours.
