Hello all- I just signed up for their gigabit service and need to get one of their approved docsis 3.1 modems. Looks like they have 3 to chose from: ARRIS SB8200, Motorola MB8600, or the netgear CM1000. Which would you purchase?
Thanks!

[NodePlus0] General Discussion of N+0 deployment activity
I would like to start a thread where we can keep track of the areas where Comcast has started deploying N+0 equipment. Earlier this year Comcast started pushing fiber deeper into the neighborhoods around me but close to 10 months after it was strung/buried it is still sitting unspliced and unlit. The comcast plant in my area is an old Adelphia region that is built on a 750MHz architecture so it's due for upgrade but it appears as if comcast is stalling on these upgrades for some reason. Has anyone else noticed any aggressive node splits and/or amplifier reduction in any other markets?

[Mobile] "Xfinity Mobile" wireless service
As mentioned in this recent DSLR news item https://www.dslreports.com/shownews/Comcast-Prepares-For-Mid2017-Wireless-Service-Launch-139048 , Comcast is planning a mid-year launch of their wireless service.
Comcast announced today that they will be providing the details on this new service on Thursday:
Comcast to Host Analyst Event to Discuss Launch of Mobile Initiative
Comcast press release, Business Wire - April 3, 2017
http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20170403005198/en/Comcast-Host-Analyst-Event-Discuss-Launch-Mobilequote:On Thursday, April 6, 2017, Comcast will host an analyst event to discuss the details of its previously announced mobile initiative, which utilizes an existing MVNO agreement. Senior members of the Comcast leadership team will participate in the event. ...There is also this FierceCable article today about it:
Comcast sets Thursday meeting with investors to discuss wireless launch
By Daniel Frankel, FierceCable - April 3, 2017
http://www.fiercecable.com/cable/comcast-sets-thursday-meeting-investors-to-discuss-wireless-launchquote:Some of the telecom industry’s most closely guarded secrets could finally be revealed Thursday, when Comcast hosts what it calls an “analyst event to discuss the details of its previously announced mobile initiative.”
:
Comcast confirmed plans to launch a wireless service combining the strengths of its vast Wi-Fi network and its MVNO deal with Verizon back in September. The launch has been slated for sometime later this year.
:
Last week, FierceWireless reported that Comcast is quietly partnering with Apple as it prepares to launch wireless service under the brand Xfinity Mobile: http://www.fiercewireless.com/wireless/comcast-quietly-taps-iphone-ahead-launch-xfinity-mobile
The cable giant’s name has been added to behind-the-scenes - but publicly available - code that lists carrier bundles for the iPhone. The list of carrier bundles is used by iTunes and iPhones to determine whether the iPhone’s SIM is supported by a service provider with whom Apple has an agreement, then provisions the phone accordingly.
The iPhone's latest list of carrier bundles includes "Verizon_Comcast_LTE_US," and mentions the service "Xfinity Mobile." A source pointed out the reference to FierceWireless, and a different source with knowledge of the matter confirmed that Comcast has indeed partnered with Apple ahead of the launch of Xfinity Mobile. [Speed] Motorola MB8600 confirmed working at or near gigabit speeds?
Is anyone getting close to gigabit speeds with this modem? I just got hooked up this morning and the highest I've been able to get on various speed tests is just shy of 500 Mbps down... upstream is solid at 40+ Mbps. I didn't see any speed confirmation in this thread from folks with gigabit, and there's a not-so-encouraging review (one of three at this time) on Amazon.
I'm hard wired, plugged directly in to the modem, trying to eliminate as many variables here as possible. Modem port doesn't seem to make a difference. I'm showing the gigabit config file. I think this SNR is acceptable, but I'm not sure, and I don't know whether it's normal to be accumulating corrected errors at this rate. Maybe someone who knows more about these things than I do can spot something amiss?

[OUTAGE] Persistent neighborhood outages - how to get Comcast attention?
Comcast internet goes down in my neighborhood approximately weekly, for between 30 minutes and 10 hours at a time. Comcast support just wants to send a tech around to my house to look at my internal equipment, seems to not understand that this is an outside problem, and a recurring one at that. This has been going on for maybe four months. Does Comcast generally identify these sort of problems and fix them? Is there any way to get Comcast to address the problem?

[CDV] Porting Phone number away from Comcast
I *own* my Arris TM822G eMTA modem because I have phone and internet.
I'm planning to port my phone number out to another provider in the fall.
I'm familiar with the porting process: i.e. initiate the port at the new provider and once it happens Comcast should automatically change my billing to an internet only plan.
Two questions:
1) In your experience, will Comcast "automatically" make this billing change or will I have to call them?
2) Will I be able to continue using this modem or will they make me get one that is not eMTA?
Thanks.

So the new billing period started today, my iphone has been turned OFF for the past 24 hours, looked at the xfinity mobile site today to see last months bill and it says I already am on the $12 per gig bill (aka used more then the 100MB free given) so far this month and claims I'm already up to 0.2GB (aka 204MB)...
problem is THE PHONE HAS NOT BEEN ON AT ALL! and was in a house where by default it's on a wifi connection all day...... (by not on i mean i powered it off not just put it in sleep mode)
I also have every app on it set to NOT use cellular data... so it's not apps doing it either, not that they could when it's well OFF...
the phone itself says current cellular data usage for current period 0MB

Comcast newbie question on monthly bandwidth cap
Got Comcast internet service about a week ago & was told then by Comcast rep during the sign up process that Comcast doesn't have bandwidth caps like my previous internet provider (WOW). Unfortunately, it's not true. Anyway, is the Xfinity 1TB monthly cap enough if you're running a web, mail, media (audio/video station), VPN server at home? Other internet uses - Ooma home phone, PC & PS4 online gaming, Netflix & possibly TV streaming service (ex. Sling TV, Amazon Prime TV, etc.). It's the other internet uses I'm worried about as I'm gaming a lot online & both my wife & daughter are heavy Netflix users. I did found a temporary solution with Netflix & possible TV streaming service - Xfinity hotspot. The new place I moved into is near a Xfinity hotspot. It's not secured (public) but I think it's OK to use for Netflix & TV streaming service viewing. The downside - Xfinity hotspot needs to refresh the login process every few days as I'm forced to open my smart TV web browser & login to my Xfinity account to get a connection (a problem with the 2 ladies in the house if they watch Netflix on TV).

[Speed] Download speed significantly reduced on VPN
Recently switched to Comcast as there's no other better internet provider on area where I moved. Got the Extreme 150 internet plan (150/20 Mbps). Noticed my download speed down around 60-65 Mbps when connected to a VPN server at home. Running a L2TP/IPSec VPN server on my Synology DS214play NAS server. Also used my own Motorola Surfboard SB6141 cable modem. Been using this kind of VPN server setup in the past with WOW internet with minimal reduction of internet speed. Current speed seems too slow for a VPN connection. Pages also slow to open. Any idea as to why & how to fix this?

[Connectivity] 850 feet away from cable?
My husband and I bought a house, listing said it was cable ready and even Comcast confirmed this when I inquired about transferring service prior to closing.
We called to get service set up and a tech came out and told us we have no service.
Fast forward 3 months and I was told by Comcast business that it will cost $50,000 in construction costs to go 850 feet or $55/foot. This seems insanely high to me.
What other options do I have?
Century link is "full" and satellite won't work for me because I need to VPN for work.
Thank you in advance!

[Plan] Best Promo Deal For New Customer in NOVA?
Hello,
I am moving to Virginia at the end of this week. I have never had Comcast before and was wondering if anyone knows of any specials/good deals? I only really want Internet. I see 25Mbit contract for $39.99/12 months and 200Mbit for $59.99/12 Months. Anyone know/heard of any better deals/promos?
Also, let's say I go for the 200Mbit plan. What is the best bang for the buck modem to use for that? Reading around I see DOCSIS 2.0 is being phased out so should I go for a DOCSIS 3.0 modem or 3.1? Not sure if I will live at this place longer then a year but I am frugal and think it would be cheaper to buy modem outright no? Open to modem suggestions and why. Not sure if I want to splurge over $100 for those DOCSIS 3.1 modems just yet unless you think 3.0 will be phased out soon or is there other advantages in terms of reliability?
Appreciate any feedback!

[Equip] Just received a letter saying that my docsis 2 modem will die
Just received a letter from Xfinity informing me that the modem I own, Arris Motorola SB5120, will suffer significantly reduced speed on August 10th and will eventually lose all internet service by August 30th.
Thing is my internet plan goes up to 25 mbps and my modem supports up to 25mbps, why would it die? Is my modem really going to die within a month and I'd be forced to buy or rent a modem when I intend to stay on the 25mbps service?

[Speed] Extremely slow downloads from Apple App Store
I don't know why, but I'm currently getting extremely slow downloads from Apple's App Store on my home Xfinity connection on both my iPad and iPhone. I'm talking several minutes to download a 8 MB file. It took around 20 minutes for a 70 MB file. I switched over to cellular and downloads were blazing fast, 100 MB in seconds. I'm in NJ.
I thought maybe there was a Wifi issue, but speed tests over Wifi on both devices exceed 200 Mbps. I'm also able to stream 1080p60 video from YouTube without issue.
Is anyone else having this problem?
I tried to run some tests and there is something odd happening just outside Comcast's network. I ran a ping test here and got consistent D's so I ran a ping test to google.com and had around 25% packet loss. Oddly ping tests to IPv4.google.com and IPv6.google.com have no loss.

[Speed] DSLReports Speed Test Knocking My PC's Network Off-Line
Here is an odd problem I am having. It's not entirely Xfinity related, so if it belongs in another section please point me in the right direction.
I've been using the DSLReports speed test for years on my PC. Motherboard is an ASUS P8Z68-V which has an Intel 82579 Gigabit card integrated on the motherboard. I just bumped up from the Extreme 300 tier to the Gig tier and running the DSLReports speed test will, without fail, start somewhat fast, slow down quickly and then knock my network completely off-line. The only thing that will bring the network back is a reboot.
I have done speedtests at Ookla and SpeedOfMe and received results I'd expect from the Gig tier (942 Down / 42 Up) so I'm not sure what would be causing the DSLReports test to knock me off-line. I'd assume if it was just the amount of data that the other speedtests I've tried would have done the same.
The easy solution, I know, would be to refrain from using the DSLReports speed test, but I'd like to know what the underlying cause is to keep it from happening. I have tried the test with other machines and have had no problems running it after the Gig tier was installed.
Any help would be appreciated! Thank you!

[Tier] Gigabit Plan In Chicago Suburbs Includes Unlimited Data
With all the talk of the data caps here I wanted to give this little tidbit of information to everyone. I am in the Chicago suburbs and just upgraded to the Gigabit plan because it included unlimited data at the $139.99 price.
I recently cut the cord and started downloading more video, I went over the 1TB cap so went into the Comcast store to return my old X1 box and to add the unlimited data plan to the Extreme 300 tier. At first the rep told me that unlimited data might already be included with my Extreme 300 plan as some areas in our area are covered with the promotion.
Unfortunately, I was not in the area for the free unlimited data option but they were running a special for unlimited data for $25 a month. I was about to accept the $95 (Extreme 300) + $25 = $120 a month when the rep said that only the Gigabit plan came with unlimited data. So I asked, "so, for $20 more a month I can triple my speed and have unlimited data?" Getting a yes, I figured it was the best plan for me.
While the price is not on the low end, I will still be paying less than I was with my TV package added and I can now start doing some real backups to the cloud of my system without worrying that I'd be constantly over a data cap.
One last note, there was no contract needed for the unlimited data with the Gigabit plan. As Comcast has different plans in different areas, your mileage may vary. It never hurts to call (or stop in) and ask.
