Comcast Upload Update?

Alright, so I remember that roughly one year ago, Comcast stated that increased upload speeds were coming in "2017." (https://www.dslreports.com/shownews/Comcast-Promises-Faster-Upstream-Speeds-Next-Year-137992) I personally don't care if this increase comes in the form of DOCSIS 3.1, Full Duplex DOCSIS 3.1 (which is still undergoing spec to my knowledge - so I expect this is not the most immediate solution), mid, or high split. Has anyone seen updates on these phantom upload speed increases? Some more sources: http://www.lightreading.com/cable/docsis/comcast-hints-strongly-at-upstream-mid-split/d/d-id/715771 (Ha! This was over two years ago! Riiight...) http://www.multichannel.com/news/distribution/comcast-eyes-upstream-expansion-it-pulls-fiber-deeper/411718 https://www.dslreports.com/shownews/Comcast-Symmetrical-Cable-Broadband-Coming-in-Next-24-Months-139090 I know the year is not over yet, and it's not like Comcast actually follows through with their time schedules, but it seems like a lot of "upload-to-the-press" to me. Just seeing if anyone has heard something new that I haven't.

Hello guys, I just moved (Same city different area) and I came from ATT Fiber 1000 up and down, unfortunately, where I live Fiber isn't available, but! I did get the next best thing available, Gigabit from Comcast, the new XB6-A Gateway, and new wireless X1 set top boxes, The wireless boxes use the 5GHz wifi and MoCA from the gateway, and if you like, you can also use the boxes on ethernet! I will try to post screenshots and pictures as soon as possible

Hey guys I just wanted to share an interesting page I found while searching on google for the TG3482G. Looks like some sort of guide for CSR's https://help.xtools.xfinity.tv/xRay/screen_level/tuninghistory.htm https://help.xtools.xfinity.tv/xRay/index.htm

[Signals] Packet Loss - Signals look fine & Arris SurfBoard SB8200 modem

$

Exactly 3 weeks ago on June 8, 2017, I replaced my Arris SB6190 DOCSIS 3.0 modem with the Arris DOCSIS 3.1 SB8200 modem, I have been having timeouts browsing the internet as many connections will timeout and require that I reload before it will work properly including posting here where I hit the Post Now! button, it just will say waiting for connection in the browser for 1+ minute until I hit Post Now! again before it will post. Even with speedtests, I was getting 50Mbps down/11Mbps up most of the time and about 5% of the time, it will be somewhere in the 140Mbps down/11Mbps up range. This is on a BlastPro 200Mbps/10Mbps connection here in Comcast San Francisco, California. I have already resetted the modem to factory defaults and have tried directly connected via Gigabit Ethernet using CAT6 cable to a computer with the same results. I had confirmed with netcool within 2 hours on the same day I began using the modem and he said it was provisioned correctly and the signal levels look good. The SB6190 did not have the same issues but the speedtests were 80% in the 180Mbps down/11Mbps range but that was when it was running on 24 channels down/4 channels up. Now it's 32 channels down/4 channels up and 1 DOCSIS 3.1 down channel. And we all know the SB6190 has other known issues that the SB8200 does not have. Even on this side, as I have posted status pages before, the signal all looks good even though it reports a T3 timeout about once every 2 days per the error logs. So on June 15, 2017 - I wrote on the Comcast Direct part of the Comcast/XFinity forums here on DSLReports.com describing the problem and the response was: "Hello {first name} looking at the signal on your modem I confirmed there is a high amount of resets and highT3 timeouts count which can be related to a RF problem can you please confirm connections from the back of the modem as far back as you can. Thank you" All the connections look fine to me as there is the underground cable from the underground tap which is in the private street in the back of the house to the grounding block at the back right corner of the house and then cable from the grounding block going up the roof and then down to the left front outside wall of my living room going into the coupler and then the cable directly to the modem. The coupler and cable directly to the modem was professionally installed by a Comcast Business Internet contractor in February 2016 before I switched to Comcast Residential High Speed Internet. Everything before the coupler back to the tap is atleast 10 years old if not longer. I wrote back and basically the Comcast representative did not respond until 4 days ago saying there has been a huge increase in T3 timeouts and they like to send a technician to check the signal which was scheduled for yesterday at 1PM-3PM. The technician arrived yesterday near the end of the appointment time window at 2:50PM and first checked the signal from the modem which looked good but was on the telephone with his manager who said there were 100s of resets during the past 3 days while it only shows 2 in my error log so they checked the signal again at the outside of the living room wall and then at the grounding block where the underground cable from the underground tap comes in and they all look good and then we went to the underground tap which feeds 3 houses, mines and my neighbors and basically, instead of the wires deep, it was all on top of the solid dirt and it appears one of the ports on the tap is broken so what was done was the following: The cable from the grounding block in the rear right corner of the house going up the roof and down the left front outside wall of the house was replaced with a new one and the old one was removed while the coupler was also replaced. I do not have a photo of what it looked like on the grounding block side before the cable was replaced. He had a fellow co-worker came over who agreed that the broken port on the tap could cause ingress even though the signal looks fine. So what is being done is that Comcast Construction will fix the tap as soon as today while they will run a new underground cable from the tap to the grounding block, the later which will take about 7 business days. Now a question, is there a such thing as a defective grounding block since I thought if it is old, it might not pass all the frequencies.

High upstream power levels

Following up on my post from a few weeks ago, we had a tech come out today. I explained the problem that we were having (frequent modem reboots and Internet drop-outs), and his solution was to add a line filter to the back of the modem. This improved the downstream power levels, but did nothing to fix the high upstream power level, which still ranges from 51-54 dBmV. I'm surprised he didn't notice that the upstream power level was way too high when he connected his meter to our line. He seemed to only pay attention to the downstream level. http://i.imgur.com/bd7TmbS.png Does anyone have any other possible solutions? Comcast has been no help each time I've called and they've sent a tech out. In doing some research online, it seems that an active-return amplifier is the solution to high upstream power level issues. Does anyone have any experience with these? I'd rather not spend $50 on an amplifier if it won't solve the problem. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6VLgJ5BoVEw

[CDV] Porting Phone number away from Comcast

I *own* my Arris TM822G eMTA modem because I have phone and internet. I'm planning to port my phone number out to another provider in the fall. I'm familiar with the porting process: i.e. initiate the port at the new provider and once it happens Comcast should automatically change my billing to an internet only plan. Two questions: 1) In your experience, will Comcast "automatically" make this billing change or will I have to call them? 2) Will I be able to continue using this modem or will they make me get one that is not eMTA? Thanks.

[CustSvc] Comcast Customer Owned Modem Question?

So, I had a tech out the other day to install a XB6 Gateway, While he was checking my account. He noticed a old Modem on there. Which he offered to take back. I told him that I owned the EMTA Modem and have no used for it anymore. Its was a TM822G with 2 Back up Batteries, but then he said never mind then since I owned it. I then said I have no use for it, so if you can take it. Please, go ahead. So he asked if I'm sure etc.... So he processed to take it with the two back up batteries for it. Did I do the right thing? I honestly don't have a use for it and didn't wanna try to sell a old modem on eBay, to have someone say its won't activate. All in all, Comcast isn't installing anymore 8x4 Modems right? So what would happen to that EMTA modem?

Hello all- I just signed up for their gigabit service and need to get one of their approved docsis 3.1 modems. Looks like they have 3 to chose from: ARRIS SB8200, Motorola MB8600, or the netgear CM1000. Which would you purchase? Thanks!

Price Confusion for new account

I'm currently moving to an area serviced by Comcast and was planning on signing up for the 200 Mbps Blast Pro tier, but noticed something strange. I'm seeing 2 listings one for $49.99 for the first 12 months with *NO* contract, and another for $59.99 for the same tier *WITH* a contract. Which doesn't make much sense to me. Just curious if there's something I'm missing or misunderstanding. [att=1] I noticed the wording is different on the non-monthly contract tier (doesn't explicitly list "Blast Pro" in the bullet list).

I have the slowest internet speed available to Xfinity which is Internet Essentials I know it's not the best plan but that's what I have and it's always been fine. But recently my speed drops down to nothing and when I did a speed test.. The results were remarkable between ip6 and IP4 I read some other threads in these forums but wasn't able to respond as they were old I am not tech savvy So patience...

Comcast began charging me a new modem rental fee this month.

I have internet and home phone with Comcast. A couple years ago I bought my own cable modem for internet to get rid of their modem rental fee on my bill, and kept using their modem just for the home phone, as they did not charge a modem rental fee if you did this. However, on my bill this month the $10/month modem rental fee has returned to my bill. I am still using their modem just for the phone service. I never received any notice that they were changing their policy to require the rental fee just for phone service. Has Comcast changed their policy on this, or have they billed me the rental fee by mistake? UPDATE: Just got off the phone with Comcast. The first girl I talked to played dumb and said she had never heard of this situation before and that she thought everyone had to pay the rental fee. I asked to speak to a manager and he said it was a billing mistake and that they would remove the modem rental fee and credit my bill for the $10.

[Connectivity] RG-6 Compression Connectors - PPC EX6XL vs EX6XLPLUS?

Greetings everyone: On the forums here at DSLR, I know everyone seems to say the PPC EX6XL is the best connector for RG-6 cable but I have a question, I noticed there is also something called the EX6XLPLUS, what are the differences between the EX6XL and the EX6XLPLUS? Also, I know there are weather boot versions with the WS added to them, are these supposed to be better than using a separate weather boot? Thanks!

I just got off the phone with a Comcast agent, who was about as much of an agent as Austin Powers is a secret agent. Sorry that's my weird way of referencing things. I need help. I have updated my router and my modem to the best of the best. I'm trying to play World of Warcraft and nothing has fixed my problem, it seems to only have gotten worse. My home internet everywhere else has increased 10 fold maybe even more, but World of Warcraft has just gotten worse. I believe the root cause (no pun intended) is my router. I'd be happy to post whatever you need. I keep seeing this Channel ID Locked thing and for some reason I'm thinking that's the problem. I've also seen on these forums, just browsing thru, the name of the guru netcool. If I could find this net magician and get his help, I'd be so pleased. Thanks for taking the time to read this. Take care!

[Plan] Side Discussion on DOCSIS 3.1 Gigabit service

Mod Note: This topic started as "XI Gigabit DOCSIS 3.1 - data cap with 3-year agreement?" It has become a general discussion of this deployment, hence the title change. uid://455626 If you actually have had this service installed, the stickied report topic is here. > https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r30960001-Speed-Report-DOCSIS-3-1-Gigabit-Service-Here If you report, please include info requested in the first post and keep that topic strictly on topic. Thanks, sortofageek The XI Gigabit DOCSIS 3.1 is now available in my area. I am tempted to sign up. Early reports said unlimited data with a 3-year agreement. The Comcast website says nothing but the typical disclaimer about the data usage plan. I don't want to sign a 3-year agreement for a plan with a data cap. Does anyone know if the XI Gigabit service is subject to the data usage nonsense? [OUTAGE] Persistent neighborhood outages - how to get Comcast attention?

$

Comcast internet goes down in my neighborhood approximately weekly, for between 30 minutes and 10 hours at a time. Comcast support just wants to send a tech around to my house to look at my internal equipment, seems to not understand that this is an outside problem, and a recurring one at that. This has been going on for maybe four months. Does Comcast generally identify these sort of problems and fix them? Is there any way to get Comcast to address the problem?

DiscoveryGO Streaming App via Roku on Comcast Internet

I am using the DiscoveryGO app on my Roku Ultra connected via my Comcast 100Mbps Internet service. The app is activated via my Comcast account and works, but all video - both live and recorded - is very poor quality. Looks like SD, but worse. All video via other apps on my Roku (NetFlix, Amazon, etc.) is very high quality. Has anyone tried DiscoveryGO (or VelocityGO) on a Roku via Comcast? Any help would be appreciated.

[Install] Self-Install still available?

Most likely going to be switching back to Comcast from FiOS this month. I had Comcast a year ago with my own modem (still have it). Since the coax is still ran in my basement from the pole, and I still own my own doc3 modem, do I have an option for a self-install to get online quickly and easily? Won't be TV or phone, just internet only. Or should I just sign up online and then make a post in the Comcast-Direct and see if they can help? Just trying to avoid taking a day off work for a tech visit when it really isn't needed here. Thanks
