I just moved into Riverton, UT and several of my neighbors (within a few homes) have Comcast.
However, Comcast has told me no service is available at my address. The best explanation I've gotten is from one chat representative (when I tried to move service here) who told me there was a damaged cable.
Looking at my backyard, I have two cable pedestals in both corners of my yard, 100ft from my house. On one of them, a coax cable is coming out, which is then dangled over the fence. It appears overhead there is another coaxial cable dangling (black wire dropping straight down) - could this be the cable damage they are talking about?
How can I get in touch with someone who has an answer for me? Most of the things I have found online are relating to new construction and/or rural areas, which doesn't seem correct for my scenario.
I work from home regularly for work (work for a large tech company) and the only other internet available at my home is Centurylink (which came and hooked me up right away) but they can only offer up to 20mb/1mb dsl bonded, which is less than adequate for my needs.
Thanks!

[Speed] 1GB service only getting 100Mbps
Hi, I have upgraded to Comcast 1GB service and i'm only getting about 89 to 93Mbps at most doing a speed test. This is both Computer directly attached to the modem and going through the router. Any suggestions on how to get Comcast to fix this.
Every time I talk to them I get the same crap about refreshing the modem updating the signals etc. never makes a difference. I have had 4 service appointments in the last 3 months.
Originally I was getting disconnected about every 30 to 45 minutes replaced the Comcast modem with a Motorola SB8600 connection is now stable but I'm not getting anywhere near the speed I should be.

Xfinity Comcast doesn't honor its own advertising
Got a brochure in the mail about Internet only $29.99 per month. The brochure has my address on it; offer expires 8/27/2017.
When I called to sign up for new account, CSR told me he can't see the $29.99 deal in his system, but assured that the $44.99 his system offers will be converted to $29.99 within a day. When I signed up, of course there was no conversion. Spoke with three CSR's so far, just to hear typical "This may no longer be available", "this may not be available in your area", "I dont know of such deal". This is plain fraud - getting new customers on hook, and then not fulfilling promises. Will keep escalating this as much as I can, just out of principle.

[Connectivity] Frequent brief outages; return path issue?
Hi, everyone. I posted this on the official XFINITY forums around a week ago, but got no responses. I wondered if I might have better luck here.
For the last few months, I've been having frequent service outages (TV, internet, & voice). The outages occur on all my services at the same time, last for about 5-10 minutes, and happen anywhere from 3 to 20 times a day. Many of my neighbors have reported similar issues. During the outages, internet and voice die completely; on the TV, I am still able to *receive* a video signal, but I cannot change the channel, access the menus, or do anything that requires sending signals upstream without getting an X1 error popup.
Looking at my signal levels, the numbers are fine when everything is working properly: downstream power is 1 - 4 dBmV, SNR around 40, upstream power about 40 dBmV. However, during "trouble" periods, the upstream power levels go haywire and some or all of the upstream channels become unlocked.
Here's a graph I made from data collected over a 3-hour period in which we had 3 outages: http://i.imgur.com/MQpMdUI.png . The downstream levels are stable, but each one of those big spikes in the upstream power level corresponds to an outage. The levels slowly climb until they get to around 50 dBmV, and the channels become unlocked. After several minutes, the modem seems to reconfigure itself (without a full reboot), and the power levels drop down.
So far, I've had 4 tech visits. The first guy replaced our splitter with a unity-gain amp and moved our boxes around, which had no effect. The second guy found water in our aerial drop cable and replaced it, which also--surprisingly--had no effect; if anything, the outages got worse. The third guy pulled up the outage history for our node and found that there'd been something like 60 wide-area outages in the last month. I told him that the problem seemed to be at least neighborhood-wide, and he said he'd email the local maintenance department supervisor to notify him of the issue. I waited a couple weeks after that to see if anything changed -- unfortunately, no improvement. The fourth guy came out and checked our line for noise, said it was "pretty much perfect", and said he'd have to talk to his supervisor about the problem.
I'm not really sure where to go from here. I'm still losing service all the time, and having techs come out has not seemed to fix the problem -- even though they've all been friendly and helpful. Any information or advice would be much appreciated.

Questions...
1. Is this a problem with the cable to my home?
2. Comcast hardware?
I ask because years ago I got the run around for 2 years (many truck rolls; 2 lines even installed) until the front-end exploded and Comcast fixed it when the entire neighborhood's cable went down.
--------------------------------------------------
Two days ago my sis was online and the internet just stopped for her. I woke up and noticed the modem would drop it's signal. Recycling.
Called Comcast after 3hrs thinking they're working on someone's box. They say there's no outage and that my modem is EOL.
Buy a new modem that night (Motorola MB6800) and hook it up to the router. Called and registered my modem.
Internet came back on ... but download speed is slow as molasses now, but upload speeds are fine and to spec.
Speed tests show the d/l speed to be at *7*mbps. This is consistent. Doesn't go higher or lower remains within 7mbps. Upload speed is as advertised.
Prior to this (about 3 months ago) the neighbor had to remove some fencing. When he did our cable was cut. Comcast came over and spliced the cable.
So, are those signals due to bad wiring by that cable line being cut and spliced; or something else like their hardware?

[Speed] Netgear R8000 and TC4400
I have had Comcast gig for about two months but I think the R8000 router either sucks or I have bad settings for the router/modem. What are the preferred settings on the router and modem for this to work best and get highest speeds. FYI the first thing I noticed was for my Chromecast Ultra which is only 12 feet away from the router does not work well, it actually is below the regular chromecast speeds I have earlier. Any help appreciated and I can provide screenshots. Thanks!

[WiFi] xfinitywifi hotspot stopped working
I have xfinitywifi hotspot enabled on my Arris gateway, it's the only reason I pay $10/month to rent the modem from Comcast (we routinely have people in the house that want to use the internet). About a month ago, the hotspot suddenly stopped working. For a while, it would show 5 bars but you would connect, and it would only be 1-2 bars and barely stable. Then it stopped working entirely. It still broadcasts, shows 5 bars. On phones (Android or iPhone), you try to connect to it, it might say "connecting..." for a few seconds, but then it just goes to "saved" or even "disabled". On a Windows laptop, I try to connect, it spins for a few seconds and then pops up message "Windows was unable to connect to xfinitywifi".
I tried rebooting the modem (via unplugging, reset button, or having the Xfinity app send a restart signal). I tried disabling the hotspot in my account settings, waiting 24 hours, and re-enabling it again. I called support, they passed me to Tier 2 and Tier 3 support people who made no suggestions beyond "try disabling and re-enabling wireless adapter on your laptop and see if that fixes it".
So finally I thought it was a hardware issue with the Arris gateway. Last week I went to an Xfinity store and swapped it out for a new one. Hooked it up, lo and behold - xfinitywifi started working again! It worked for all of 2 days, on the 3rd day it started doing the same thing again, where it broadcasts but no device can actually connect to it.
Has anyone run into something like this?

[Plan] Extreme Pro Internet 400 Mbs - Side Discussion

I am trying to order the Extreme Pro (400 Mbs) pack as I have the old Extreme 150 and the Pro is cheaper than I am currently paying.
You can not order on the web site but have to call.
Finally get through to a human only to be told they don't do a 400Mbs internet for residential. The best they have is the Blast! 200.
I politely explain they go up to 2Gbs for home internet if you are willing to pay for it.
Anyone else ran into this issue, Or have an idea how to get around the human factor?

I will try to post screenshots and pictures as soon as possible

[Speed] Experience with QoS and Bufferbloat
I'm using an Ubiquiti ER-3 LITE router with my 200/10 Mbps Comcast Internet service. The router includes options for QoS. Using the speed test on this site and with router QoS disabled, my service tests at 238/12 Mbps with a bufferbloat rating of D.
I then tried turning QoS on and set down/up limits of 200/10, 400/10 and 800/10. In each case, the service speed tested at approximately 90-95/8-9 Mbps, but with a bufferbloat rating of A+.
Do these results make any sense? Am I better off with the faster speed and high bufferbloat, or the slower speed without bufferbloat?
I don't do any interactive gaming via my Internet connection, mostly just streaming video such as Netflix and Amazon. My only uploading is the very occasional posting or emailing of large files.
When is bufferbloat important?

[Connectivity] Arris XB6 issues
A few days ago I had the xb6 installed with the gig service. I’ve had nothing but issues. Wifi drops. Completely disappears. Wired devices no longer have internet. This happens randomly throughout the day. Tried bridge mode into my Apple AirPort Extreme, wifi of course is now fine, but still loose internet randomly. The only way it comes back is if I completely power cycle the mode.
Comcast states it is passing signal tests etc. I am getting a replacement in the morning. Hopefully this fixes it, but has anyone else is having such issues. My service with my CM600 modem and the Apple extreme was rock solid for about 8 months. Not so much as a hiccup, now thing but troubles.
The xb6 is running the latest firmware as of today. It seems like to OS just crashes out, given that it doesnt seem to recover on its own.

Xfinity Internet Dying Every Afternoon
1. Boca Raton, Florida
2. Every afternoon around 1-2PM my internet completely dies. TV is fine. Later in the evening, it will return. Sometimes it stays down for an hour--sometimes longer. This past Sunday it went down from 1PM to 8:45PM. I had this exact problem 2 years ago. A tech. came over, said everything was fine, blamed it on my PC and left. I contacted Xfinity on Facebook. They sent him back a week later. He reluctantly swapped my modem out and it completely fixed the issue (For almost 2 years)....UNTIL this past Friday..it's happening all over again--going on five straight days now. It dropped at 2:30 today and came up a few hours later. It will stay up the rest of the day/night until tomorrow afternoon where it will start the cycle all over again.
3. The modem lights stay on other than the "Online" one. It goes out and stays out for hours until the connection is restored.
4. The modem is an X1 all-in-one Arris TG1682g (I'm not sure where it lists Firmware version once I'm logged into the modem. It doesn't seem to say it anywhere.)
5. I do not use any routers. The x1 box is plugged in directly to my desktop PC.
6. I'm using Microsoft Security Essentials
Speed Test Results: http://speedtest.xfinity.com/results/J648LP6TN7VB3PM
Download Speed
83.46 Mbps
Upload Speed
12.57 Mbps
Using Firefox Browser
When the connection dies, the "Offline" indicator goes off and the other 4 lights stay on and blink periodically.

[Bill] 2 accounts same address
Hey there
This is an odd one, I've not asked Comcast yet. So, I live at home with my parents and we have a Comcast account. It's in my name. We have a Double Play w/ Gigabit + Unlimited Data add on, a X1 DVR, and a Cable Card. My company is set to begin reimbursing staff for home internet, since we all work from home. There's some weird fine print with them and basically, my internet needs to be on it's own bill/account.
Has anyone had success having 2 different accounts at the same address for the purposes of dividing expenses? Surely this could be done in similar fashion to renting out your guest house and it having it's own bill, or even a room in your home being a "apartment", and another tenant lives there. Is this possible or am I dreaming?
Thanks for any help :)

[Event-Log] SB8200 T3/T4 Errors
Hello,
I originally posted in the ARRIS/SURFboard forum but was redirected here instead (see https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r31555612-SB8200-Constant-Reboots).
I am using an SB8200 and it is rebooting several times a day. My signals and event log can be seen above. I've had several techs at this location to work on it, and I had escalated it to an active ESL and supervisor case (I can PM ticket numbers if needed), who told me that there is nothing else they can do since the signals that I currently have are within their specs. The people that were helping on the other post said that upstream is barely within spec; and additionally, I should install another MoCA filter in front of the modem itself, which I am ordering on Amazon to try.
I am hoping that someone here has some additional info that can help me out. I'd appreciate anything!
