[DOCSIS] Is the SB8200 more sensitive to cableing?

Hey everyone! I have been living well with a SB6190 for well over a year. Its been great! Recently however, my area was upgraded to the new Docsis 3.1 and Gigabit service so I bought a new SB8200 in anticipation of upgrading in the near future (and the fact that I am a sucker for new toys. :) ). Well, it arrived today and I was able to self provision via the walled garden with no issue. Status shows Docsis 3.1 connectivity! Yay! Speeds tests before and after are identical with my laptop connected directly to the modem, as expected. Here is the weird part. My Airport Extreme router will only connect at 100MB with the SB8200 (either port), when it had no issue connecting at 1GB with my SB6190. Literally nothing else has changed except the modem. I tried forcing 1GB within the routers firmware to no avail. When I connect with my laptop directly to the SB8200, I get a full 1GB connection on both ports, so I know the modem is capable. I am not sure if it is the modem or router that has the problem with the other. My hunch is that the SB8200 is more sensitive to cabling than the SB6190 and is rejecting the 1GB connection to my router (I ran the cable and terminated the ends myself. I'm an geek that way.) The only thing I haven't tried is to take the Airport Extreme into the basement and try connecting to the router directly with the same, proven cable I used for the laptop. That might point to my wiring being on the fringe. I will try that tonight. If that doesnt work I will buy some new, high quality CAT7 cables for the backbone to see if it makes a difference. It's very weird. Anyone else have issues with their new SB8200 auto-negotiating 1GB?

Anyone experience the speed increase mentioned here? http://www.multichannel.com/news/distribution/comcast-raises-download-speeds-three-tiers-across-central-division/416328quote:Among the changes, the download speed of Comcast’s Xfinity Blast! tier will rise from 75 Mbps to 100 Mbps, while Performance tier speeds more than double, from 25 Mbps to 60 Mbps, and the Performance Starter jumps from 10 Mbps to 25 Mbps.

[DOCSIS] SB6190 vs SB8200 (2016 DOCSIS 3.1 modem)

Now that I know Comcast has 24 download channels in my area I'm torn between upgrading to an SB6190 or if I should just wait for the SB8200 DOCSIS 3.1 modem to come out next year. While Comcast seems pretty gung-ho about DOCSIS 3.1, if the SB8200 retails for $300 it may make sense to just pull the trigger on the SB6190 now. While my SB6183 is working just fine, it's always nice to be able to use the extra download channels in case my neighbors get 4K TVs for Christmas and start streaming UHD content. :D I've had really good luck with Arris modems, so the $20 difference between the 32x8 SB6190 and 24x8 Netgear CM600 isn't really a factor.

[Mobile] "Xfinity Mobile" wireless service

As mentioned in this recent DSLR news item https://www.dslreports.com/shownews/Comcast-Prepares-For-Mid2017-Wireless-Service-Launch-139048 , Comcast is planning a mid-year launch of their wireless service. Comcast announced today that they will be providing the details on this new service on Thursday: Comcast to Host Analyst Event to Discuss Launch of Mobile Initiative Comcast press release, Business Wire - April 3, 2017 http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20170403005198/en/Comcast-Host-Analyst-Event-Discuss-Launch-Mobilequote:On Thursday, April 6, 2017, Comcast will host an analyst event to discuss the details of its previously announced mobile initiative, which utilizes an existing MVNO agreement. Senior members of the Comcast leadership team will participate in the event. ...There is also this FierceCable article today about it: Comcast sets Thursday meeting with investors to discuss wireless launch By Daniel Frankel, FierceCable - April 3, 2017 http://www.fiercecable.com/cable/comcast-sets-thursday-meeting-investors-to-discuss-wireless-launchquote:Some of the telecom industry’s most closely guarded secrets could finally be revealed Thursday, when Comcast hosts what it calls an “analyst event to discuss the details of its previously announced mobile initiative.” : Comcast confirmed plans to launch a wireless service combining the strengths of its vast Wi-Fi network and its MVNO deal with Verizon back in September. The launch has been slated for sometime later this year. : Last week, FierceWireless reported that Comcast is quietly partnering with Apple as it prepares to launch wireless service under the brand Xfinity Mobile: http://www.fiercewireless.com/wireless/comcast-quietly-taps-iphone-ahead-launch-xfinity-mobile The cable giant’s name has been added to behind-the-scenes - but publicly available - code that lists carrier bundles for the iPhone. The list of carrier bundles is used by iTunes and iPhones to determine whether the iPhone’s SIM is supported by a service provider with whom Apple has an agreement, then provisions the phone accordingly. The iPhone's latest list of carrier bundles includes "Verizon_Comcast_LTE_US," and mentions the service "Xfinity Mobile." A source pointed out the reference to FierceWireless, and a different source with knowledge of the matter confirmed that Comcast has indeed partnered with Apple ahead of the launch of Xfinity Mobile. EDIT: Also an article on Light Reading: http://www.lightreading.com/mobile/services-apps-mobile/new-comcast-wireless-details-drop-this-week-/d/d-id/731786 EDIT2: Karl has a news item up now about this https://www.dslreports.com/shownews/Comcast-to-Reveal-Details-on-Wireless-Service-on-Thursday-139284

[DOCSIS] SB8200 only connecting as DOCSIS 3.0 and not 3.1 with Comcast

Due to the growing unreliability of my SB6190, I went to Best Buy and purchased a SB8200 to replace it. Finally I'd have a true DOCSIS 3.1 modem and a more reliable Broadcom chipset as well. I was able to set it up fairly quickly with Comcast on the phone and initial speed tests seemed to be around the 150mbps range that I had expected. The only concern I have at this time is that all of the lights on the front a green which means that its connected at DOCSIS 3.0 and not DOCSIS 3.1 as my old SB6190 appeared to be in the past. I'd read other threads about people waiting earlier in the year for an update from Comcast and having to reboot to get connected via DOCSIS 3.1. The software version on my SB8200 is D31CM-PEREGRINE-1.0.1.0-GA-04-NOSH at this time. Just wondering if a future update will be needed or why it may only be connected as DOCSIS 3.0 so far.

Checking my modem and noticed I now have 28 channels down, 4 up and see the 1st OFDM channel is locked and shows frequency, power, SNR etc. Does that mean my area now has 3.1 enabled? The LED's on the front of the modem have not changed, still all green. Thanks.

[Business] Want to get Comcast Business without a 2 year contract

I am wondering if it is possible to get Comcast business without a 2 year contract. Also, can anyone attest to if Business is better than residential (and not asking for the opinion of Comcast tech or rep, preferably someone impartial). If I was to get Residential, I am considering getting the unlimited data option, as I feel if I got 150Mbps I would end up using the 1TB cap faster than I do now on AT&T U-Verse with 50Mbps down and 5 or 6 Mbps up

[Signals] Troublesome downstream bonded channel

Hello all, I have an issue with ONE downstream channel in particular that is generating a lot of errors. I'm not sure if it's one of those issues with cellular signals leaking in or some other source of interference, but see for yourselves.

IPv6 and upstream channel bonding

Does Comcast not have native IPv6 implemented yet and what about upstream channel bonding? My brother's Zoom modem died and he had to get a new one. Modem he got has 4 channel upstream bonding but only locked into one channel. Pretty sure Zoom modem had 4 channel upstream but don't remember if I ever looked at that. In router the only way it connects to IPv6 is by 6to4. Wouldn't have thought Comcast was that far behind Charter in this area of West Michigan as I have both native IPv6 and 4 channel upstream bonding.

Techs & Former Techs-Strangest Troubleshooting Stories?

Reading some of the threads here and, as a former Tech/Foreman (Lead), I recall a couple of very strange troubleshooting stories. 1: Had a house in a well-to-do area of northern NJ that had bad interference on all their sets (back in the 90s). All sets affected, showed interference from the tap on a test-set. Turned over to Engineering - they found nothing. Went back to the house - interference at all sets. Ran a test-drop - still there. Changed all splitters & fittings - still there. Bonded to an alternate ground source - still there. Scratched head. Started disconnecting sets - still there until I found an old VCR on the top shelf of an armoire in an unused bedroom, covered up by clothes and blocked in front by books and knick-knacks. Disconnected said VCR and everything snapped back to perfect reception. The customers didn't even remember that the VCR was there, much less that there used to be a TV in the room. Total repair time for that day: 5 hours. 2: Had a customer in a set of condos in Secaucus that were adjacent to a waterway in the Meadowlands. Every early afternoon the cable would go out (complete snow) and would come back on later in the evening. After three techs had been there and found no issue (they went in the morning and the sets were working fine), I went to see what I could find. While there in the morning, I was leaning over the deck outside the living room and noticed that the waterway was low. Then I realized - it was a tidal waterway. I lay down on the deck and looked under the deck flooring and saw the drop hanging from the bottom of the deck and, since the water was at low-tide, saw what the other techs had missed: a barrel-connector about 6 inches from the waterline. I checked the tide schedule for the past several weeks and saw that the cable was out at the same time there was high-tide. When the tide was out, the barrel was out of the water, so no service interruption. When the tide came in, the barrel was submerged and cut the signal. What bizarre troubleshooting tales do you techs and former techs have? Post 'em!

[OUTAGE] Outage Reported going on over a week now

Hi, My "Xfinity (My Account)" App (iOS) has, for at least the last week probably longer, been saying there is an outage reported on both TV and Internet. I can't verify TV as I don't use it but the Internet is fine save the bogus indicator on the iPhone App. With the App thinking there is an outage the App won't let me restart the modem. It won't even try. I can connect to the modem via 192.168.100.1 just fine. The Status and Log pages are exemplary. My only recourse is to power cycle the modem to reboot it. I don't like power cycling devices if it can be done via software. So how do I convince the iPhone App that there are no outages? I'm in a near north suburb of Chicago which is suppose to get a speed bump soon so I'd like to reboot the modem periodically (without power cycling). Thanks, J

Performance Internet customers will see their download speed increase from 50 Mbps to up to 70 Mbps. Customers can expect to experience the new speeds today, March 1. To get the increased speeds, most customers will simply need to re-start their modems when notified by Comcast that the new speed is available. Comcast will also notify customers who may need to upgrade their modems to receive the increased speeds. Customers who lease modems from Comcast will be able to receive upgraded modems at no additional charge. Customers who own their own modems and need to upgrade their modems to receive the increased speeds will need to purchase a new modem or can lease a new modem from Comcast. ...EDIT: Karl also has a news item up on this now: https://www.dslreports.com/shownews/Comcast-Begins-Bumping-Performance-Tier-From-50-to-70-Mbps-139061

[NodePlus0] General Discussion of N+0 deployment activity

I would like to start a thread where we can keep track of the areas where Comcast has started deploying N+0 equipment. Earlier this year Comcast started pushing fiber deeper into the neighborhoods around me but close to 10 months after it was strung/buried it is still sitting unspliced and unlit. The comcast plant in my area is an old Adelphia region that is built on a 750MHz architecture so it's due for upgrade but it appears as if comcast is stalling on these upgrades for some reason. Has anyone else noticed any aggressive node splits and/or amplifier reduction in any other markets?

Does anyone know when the DOCSIS 3.1 Gigabit Internet will be available in West Virginia? There are several surrounding states that already support the plan but for some reason West Virginia has yet to get it.

Do I need to express a preference on whether to get a cable modem or a wireless gateway for this scenario? I don't "need" their wi-fi but I won't object. And regardless, should I express a preference for which model when arranging the service?

[Connectivity] Bufferbloat spikes during upload testing. T3 Timeout's

Hey guys, Been experiencing some slightly strange issues with my Xfinity internet recently. I'm in Bellevue Washington and I was using an Arris SB6183 Modem, now I am using a Xfinity supplied standard gateway w/ bridge mode turned on for my ASUS RT-AC66U. Basically, few weeks ago, friends started telling me my voice sounded laggy or robotic at times when I spoke in online voice chat. This would be random, no real observed pattern, only happens for a few seconds to a few minutes at a time. Noticed strangely that my speeds were all fine, and that I could hear others perfectly fine. I was usually in game as well, and I did not experience a lag spike. Was able to finally catch on two separate occasions some bufferbloat spikes on upload testing. Fast forward a week. One day the internet on my modem goes out. Lights everywhere are still fine. Reboot the router, get no internet connection, says I need to contact ISP for DHCP error. I reboot the modem and the internet is restored. The next week I started experiencing slightly more frequent lag spikes, now my lag spikes are much more measurable, was also getting packet loss as well. Then the speed one day just dropped off to crap. Terrible speeds. Comcast techs were able to come out and identify a large amount of line noise, they said there was a lot of line noise in the "Upload SNR"? Line maintenance came out and replaced the line going from my house to the main telephone pole. Still had issues, had the rest of my wires replaced yesterday. Still the same issue on that modem. Swap out to a Comcast modem and the speeds went back to what I was supposed to have before. HOWEVER. I'm noticing... slight delay or a slight delay in loading of web pages. Seems slower than before. Been testing all my speeds and what not, speeds are fine. However, I've been noticing some bufferbloat spikes, especially on upload. (I remember I've had this problem since I got my service I believe). I turned on my QoS like usual, limited it slightly and it made the bufferbloat slightly better. However whenever I do the test, right at the start of the upload test there will be a HUGE spike in bufferbloat (which immediately goes down). I've been monitoring my Comcast Modem logs and its shown 3 of these errors: [Docsis][969]: No Ranging Response received - T3 time-out (I've had this Comcast modem since yesterday at 3, its been around 27 hours. I still have the logs saved for my Arris SB6183, and my Arris had quite a few T-3 Timeouts and No ranging response received errors as well. What do you guys think the problem is? It still seems like there could possibly be something wrong with my upstream... however my modem stats look fine. Its just the logs showing errors. I've had comcast techs look at my power levels and what not, they were all normal/ good (Arris). I've done some research and it seems like im definitely not alone with this issue, especially on some Arris Modems. Do you guys think its my modem that could possibly be faulty? Or some kind of issue on Comcast's end? or both? Here's some of the logs I've gotten from my old Arris Modem: These are most of the ones I've seen. The Timing Sync Failure is spammed completely all across the logs. Most of the logs are those. And there were quite a lot of T4 timeouts on the 23rd. Just got 9.1.93T and thing are a lot better. Page loads are better and mail doesn't take forever to connect to the servers. But speed tests are still nutsz. [att=1] [att=2] Split from > https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r30771922-Firmware-Problems-with-the-new-6190-firmware-9-1-93N
