Ok, so here's the deal....
My brother is on COMCAST Triple Play and he has been renting his modem for the past 12 years and it is just KILLING ME. So I have him buy a TG862G that was refurbished and we install it and activate it and everything is working fine except NO VOICE. So we call Customer Service and after an hour on the phone, they come to the conclusion that the modem's VOICE CIRCUITS are BAD. Ok, toss it in the trash and shelf the idea for a few months. Ok, a year later, I bug him again, buy a new modem and we'll get rid of you paying that stupid $10/month to COMCAST. He buys another TG862G and we activate it. Another 1 hour phone call with the Philippines and guess what..... "Sorry Sir.... Your Modem is bad!". That was 3 months ago.
Yesterday, he gets another modem, another TG862G and we activate it and SAME RESULT, no voice. We try TEL1 TEL2, etc, 1 hour phone call with the Philippines and they try to blow us off with the "BAD MODEM" deal again, we push back and they escalate to LEVEL 3 support, which never calls back. So he calls them after 24 hours and gives them the ticket number and they go thru their automated voice script where the repeat your name back to you every 10 seconds and another 1 hour phone call and guess what... Sorry Sir your modem is bad.
GUYS THIS IS Completely Ridiculous!!!!!!!!
If you go to mydevice.xfinity.com and put in his ZIP CODE of 84088 and put in 100 MBS and then SELECT VOICE/TELEPHONE enabled it comes up with 6 supported modems and the ARRIS TG862G is on the supported list. We tell them "LOOK THIS IS THE 3RD MODEM THEY ALL CAN'T BE BAD!!!!" They must be doing something wrong!!!! But yet every time we switch back to his OLD modem, the one that he has paid $2400 in rental fees for it works just fine! That current modem that he rents, which ISN'T on the supported list is a TECHNICOLOR TC8305C
Again the latest modem that we are trying is:
ARRIS TG862G
Part Number: TG02DH7862
Serial Number: C5EBSMABW522241
Both him and I have about pulled out every single hair we have left on our heads and say IT CANT BE THIS HARD!!!!!
Please, Please, Please..... Does anyone have ANY suggestions?
Thank you in advance!

Updated to Gigabit Tier
All enjoy this group for starters! Just upgraded to Gigabit from Performance Pro here in NH. My setup is;
Motorola MB 8600 to Edgerouter X to HP Gigabit switch. I have run CAT 6A in the past year to many jacks in my home. I tested the speed right from MB 8600 and download was 450 MPBS being the highest after a few tests and upload was right around 36-40 MPBS. The test laptop was a Dell E6530 connected gigabit to the MB8600. The other possible issue is the amplifier mounted in my condo? Is this rated for Gigabit? Would Comcast be responsible for replacing if it is not rated? I have the correct configuration file in the Moto and have 25 x 3 channels with one being ODFM. What am I missing?

[Plan] Side Discussion on DOCSIS 3.1 Gigabit service
Mod Note: This topic started as "XI Gigabit DOCSIS 3.1 - data cap with 3-year agreement?" It has become a general discussion of this deployment, hence the title change. uid://455626
If you actually have had this service installed, the stickied report topic is here. > https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r30960001-Speed-Report-DOCSIS-3-1-Gigabit-Service-Here If you report, please include info requested in the first post and keep that topic strictly on topic. Thanks, sortofageek
The XI Gigabit DOCSIS 3.1 is now available in my area. I am tempted to sign up. Early reports said unlimited data with a 3-year agreement. The Comcast website says nothing but the typical disclaimer about the data usage plan. I don't want to sign a 3-year agreement for a plan with a data cap. Does anyone know if the XI Gigabit service is subject to the data usage nonsense?

[Plan] Need to drop Xfinity TV / but keep the internet
I am prepared to finally drop my expensive xfinity TV. I have heard horror stories from a friend about how they did and their internet suffered greatly - with disconnections/low speed.
I cannot afford for that to happen as my wife works from home and needs that connection. We currently have Performance Pro for internet and their lowest priced xfinity. Anyone else had a bad experience trying drop the TV service.

[IPv6] Issues with ipv6 and bridged mode
Having some issues with ipv6 and wondering if someone can help me
Ok so I woke up this morning, internet disconnected, red light on my XB6 nothing working. So i restart everything and all is fine? nope, ipv4 is working but ipv6 isn't working anymore
So i tried resetting the modem, in non-bridged mode ipv6 worked fine, in bridge mode with my wifi router (Asus ACRH13) ipv6 doesn't work at all
Previous night before ipv6 and everything was working FINE, didn't touch or change any settings. Factory reset my wifi router, didn't fix it
I'm kinda stumped as to what I should do
I tried different connection types, default dns servers didn't do anything, changing it to stateful just makes the internet stop working
So I don't know, did Comcast do something last night that broke something? Or is my wifi router to blame.. Nooo idea please help me networking gurus

[Connectivity] Motorola MB8600 noisy channels
Until a couple of weeks ago, logging in into my modem, I could see all the downstream channels SNR well into the >40 dB.
This week I noticed a big sag around channels 26-29 with SNR sometimes in the 20s dB and lots of errors.
I can only think of 2 things that have changed recently: Comcast pushing a new firmware and me enabling LAG. Could either one be affecting SNR? What else could be causing this?

[Install] New subscriber with questions about new services
Monday, 11/27/2017, Comcast is rolling out a truck to replace an aging cable (last service for the house was in 2009) from the pole to the house, and hopefully, finally activate our new internet services.
Due to already having 2 2.4Ghz and 1 5Ghz wireless access points, any known issues with setting the supplied DPC3491T modem into passthrough mode? Question becomes moot if Frontier wants their old gateway back in which I'll lose one of the 2.4Ghz AP.
Which IPv6 connection type should I be setting my Asus RT-AC68U for IPv6 connectivity?
Would I be able to opt out of the public WiFi AP? If not, would I be able to specify which channels the public WiFi service uses, so it's not interfering with my 2 existing 2.4Ghz APs? Again, depending on Frontier asking for it's old gateway back.
Since we're going to be paying a modem rental, I'll be looking to purchasing my own cable modem (we signed a 2 year contract, 11x24 = 2+ self-owned cable modems), any suggestions? We're not using cable TV or voice services at all.

[Connectivity] Only 1 of 4 upstream channels bonded-what is the problem?
I have an owned SB6141. When it is power-cycled, it takes hours to reacquire a connection. Looking at the signals page over the past weeks, I noticed that only one of four upstream channels is bonded. The other three channels show "Retries Exceed." This has been the case constantly for over the week I have been checking. What is the problem here, the modem, the connection or something else? There is only one splitter between the entry cable and the cable modem. Thanks!

Modem Upgrade
Received a notice today from Comcast that they are upgrading my Internet tier plan (I'm on 75/10, I believe it's going to 100/10) and that my modem needs to be upgraded to support the new speeds. I have the Motorola SB6121.
I'm looking at DOCSIS 3.1 modems and found two:
The Motorola Ultra Fast DOCSIS 3.1 MB8600 - https://go.rr.cx/a9Ck385qh
The Surf Board SB8200 DOCSIS 3.1 - https://go.rr.cx/m1Ho325ye
I've always used Surfboard modems since day one (except for a stint with the Linksys CM modem. Ah the good ole days!).
Price point they are ~$30 different (The Motorola is more expensive). Aside from price, is there any thing specific that I should look for? Would the SB 8200 be enough?
More importantly, do I even need to upgrade my modem to get 100/10?
Here's what I'm getting now for speed:

Thanks for any input!

[Speed] Sudden loss of upload speed on Gig plan
Upgraded to Gig 3 weeks ago and went out and purchased a Netgear CM1000 cable modem to go along with my Orbi Mesh network. Installed and everything was running smoothly until 4-5 days ago when suddenly upload speed was slashed from 35-50Mpbs to barely 5Mpbs.
Xfinity techs came over today; installed their own xb6 modem and that still didn't work. Did some further testing and provisioning and still nothing worked. Told me to follow up in a few days.
City is Fremont, CA.
Have plugged directly into cable modem and see speeds of 400-600Mpbs download (which I am ok with) however upload rarely goes above 5Mpbs.
Cable Modem is Netgear CM1000 with firmware 3.01.02.
Attaching a few screenshots; hoping someone can offer some input or guidance.

[Speed] Throttling on new Gigabit plan in VA
I was wondering if anyone in the state of Virginia was seeing any oddities with xFinity service while using VPN services. I know I know, "Comcast/xFinity does not throttle or shape their traffic", but I can find no other logical explanation for what I'm experiencing. I recently had a basic internet/tv double play plan, I think it was 100dl/10ul and who cares about the TV part. I often use a Cisco VPN for work, and for personal machines I use some third party VPN providers for privacy. Most, if not all, base their applications on OpenVPN platform. While I was on the basic plan being 100/10 it was ok. Work VPN connections were around 40-60dl, and ul was about up to limit around 10. Same with the third party VPN services. I recently upgraded to the Gigabit plan which was newly introduced into my area. Without any VPN connection, the speeds were drastically higher, fluctuating, but still worlds better, averaging 400-1000dl/30-40ul. now connecting through any VPN though, be it cisco or other vendor, the best I've gotten has been 80-175dl/25-35ul. The reason I suspect throttling is, no matter what I do to the settings of any of my VPN connections/clients, the speeds stay consistent. It really seems like Comcast is limiting DL speeds to VPN services. Anyone else having the same issues?

[Account] Someone Locks Me Out Of My Xfinity Account
Someone makes changes to my account and Comcast support is not helpful. They know my full name, my SSN (or the last four digits of the SSN) and my current address. Using these info, he calls Comcast support and makes changes to my account. He adds different TV packages to my internet-only account. I did everything like changing the username and password, enabling two factor authentication - but this guy manages to disable/reset everything by calling Comcast support. What else should I do to make my account secure?

Area upgrade breaks gaming again 28 downstream + 1 OFDM
I was really sad to have to make this post at all. I'm not sure if anyone remembers but I had a thread back in August for similar issues. Here is the link for anyone wanting all the information (Where my location is, signal levels at the time ect) http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r31592115-Connectivity-Area-upgrade-from-24downstream-channels-to-32-broke-gaming-skype. A few days ago I notice that my downstream light on my Sb8200 has gone blue! 3.1 is finally here in my area baby! I excitedly hop on the status page to check out my signals levels, what channels are now bonding and the like. Strange, they went with 28 down, 4 up and 1 OFDM. They were experimenting with 32 down a while back and it was having issues. It's important to note that the frequencies the modem is grabbing now are a much lower sweep. The thread from a few months ago shows proof that I was grabbing 32 downstream from 525hz-729hz. I now see that I'm getting 435hz-681hz for the 28 standard channels and a single 745hz for the Docsis 3.1 channel. In this upgrade something got broken, I pull 80+ mbps down and around 6 up. Lately i'm seeing around 20-80 varying quite a bit for the download and around 2-6 for the upload. Most of the time my tests are on the lowest end of what I mentioned. These are to the same sites and servers ive tested to in the past. Gaming is pretty much not possible. It might work for a while but ill get such a bad hiccup the entire game session will time out, skype will disconnect ect. My pings have been all over the place. seeing spikes in pinging google from 15-20ms all the way up to 50-60. I get that not all routers have a high priority for response and all that but for the most part pinging google was always consistent. Doing a tracert to google shows some sort of horrible routing problem that I am 100% sure is responsible for my issues. I'm including pictures of the questionable tracert, my downstream and upstream signal levels as of today. No cabling has been changed out or anything like that.
What have I found out so far? I believe the routing issues lays somewhere in Seattle. As you see from my tracert it goes from Spokane to Seattle assuming those are labeled correctly and in the past they have been. The real fun comes when I connect to my pptp VPN in Seattle. I get 20mbps down, 3ish up and 3-8% packet loss. No, it isn't encryption or overhead or anything as I consistently used to get 75-80mbps down and 6 up easy. I even turned OFF encryption just for testing and still same result. I feel like this is further evidence pointing to an issue in Seattle. Maybe it's just an issue with the deployment of Docsis 3.1 in my area I'm not sure. I just know it's having horrid effects on trying to game or use any real time applications. My hope is that this gets escalated to a Comcast engineer that can take a look or make some calls. If anyone wants me to run anymore tracert's do any more test I'm more then happy to. I just want stable reliable internet and right now I'm not even close. Thank you in advance to anyone who looks at this or can help and happy holidays!
Edit 1: Turned on Ipv6 to see what would happen in a trace to google. Same issue. Attaching picture

[E-mail] Large uptick of spam
Is anyone else noticing a large increase of spam to their Comcast email accounts lately ? Yes, I duly report them as 'spam' on the webmail portal and/or report the full email with headers to missed-spam{at}comcast.net. Change my password regularly. The only shopping site I use my primary addy for is Amazon and I use it just for communicating with my accountant, attorney and financial advisor. But -- so many "job offers" with malware links are coming through now.
I'm getting about 6-8 weekly to both my Primary Comcast email and one secondary. The secondary one has been involved in a lot of breaches and the spam just annoys me but my Primary is taking a big hit. I can't use the spam filter because every single time I do it blocks legitimate email.
Anyway, just curious. I saw other threads on this but they are from 2014 and 2015. Thanks.

[Speed] Side Discussion About Gigabit Pro & earlier Gigabit Deployments
Anyone know if Comcast has actually started installs? I live in the west palm beach, fl market announced for deployment this month. So far phone agents don't know anything of the service. I've been told by different agents, 2016, June and it'll be in the system tomorrow. None had even heard of the service before I inquired and they did a bit of research, so I went to out local sales office to inquire in person. There I had to show them the press release, to which they simply said its not yet available in the market. Seems like this was a pure fiber to the press release hail marry announcement to try to salvage the dead merger.

[Other] CDV - Some callers don't hear first 'Hello'
Don't know where else to post this.
I have Comcast voice using a TM722G. We have noticed for quite some time that certain callers do not hear our first 'Hello' but hear us fine after the second 'Hello.' Other callers hear us perfectly well as soon as we start talking.
I have pretty well narrowed it down to all the callers that don't hear our first greeting are also CDV subscribers, not necessarily using the same EMTA, to the contrary, I think they're all different.
Is it possible that anyone else has heard of or experienced this little annoyance or can suggest a reason or remedy? Logging into the modem doesn't show anything even remotely associated with this and is (typically) rather sparse.
