[Bill] Is sales tax normal on the first bill?

So many of you may have noticed that I now have Comcast on this thread https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r31171938-Plan-Comcast-is-coming-to-my-complex-COMPLETED and I'm glad to announce that I love my service. It's fast and speedy, and I can now say that Comcast, whilst being the best in service and utterly pitiful in their ethics, can finally raise our property value after ten years living in this shitty apartment complex that's so expensive with its HOA fees per MONTH. OTOH, I'm rather confused about this itemised charge on the billquote:State And Local Sales Tax 10.36 and I'm wondering, is this completely normal on the first month's bill or will it possibly reoccur every month? It seems expensive for sales tax. (Sales tax here in texas is 8.25% and the bill was $161.13 since I chose the Blast Pro speeds).

[Bill] Bill increase - fees/taxes counted twice ?

My current bill that just became available shows an inexplicable $6.99 increase but in comparing EACH line entry with last month's bill there is no change. That $6.99 increase is the exact amount of my "taxes and fees". I've posted the PDF of last month's bill and a cut/paste of my current bill (sorry, the PDF isn't available yet). Can anyone spot some other cause for the increase, please ? Is Comcast somehow double-counting the taxes/fees ? If so, how to get Billing to recognize it ... ? Thanks in advance.

[Speed] Slow Download Speed on SB8200 and CM1000 but XB6 Works Fine

I recently upgraded service to Xfinity Gigabit. While connecting to either Arris SB8200 or Netgear CM1000, the download speeds max out at 650 Mbps (connected directly from the modem to a PC). But when I connect through the Comcast XB6-A the download speeds are consistent around 950 Mbps. I have spent a few hours with Comcast technical support (not tier 3) on the call but they keep saying that it's the modem. I don't understand how two different modems can be bad. Can someone help with this? Thanks in advance.

[Connectivity] TPLink TC-7620 only connects at 100 but it has a gigabit port

I've also posted this on the Comcast forum as well as contacted Comcast and TPLink but have made no progress. ---- I have a TPLink TC-7620 This has a Gigabit ethernet port but I only connect at 100. I've tried connecting through a router and directly with a laptop. Each only connects at 100 It has the following config d11_m_tc7620_speedtierextreme2_c01.cm The admin page doesn't give the option to set a static speed so I can't force it. My laptop detects 1000 if I connect to anything other than my cable modem. I've reset the modem a couple of times. I've also tried introducing a switch between the modem and the router as suggested in a similar thread. I've tried several ethernet cables. any ideas? thanks

[E-mail] Service related email only going to secondary accts not primary

Does anyone know why Comcast service-related emails are not arriving in my Primary CC email address, but DO arrive in all of my secondary accounts, please ? Most recently, the speed increase email went to all of my secondary accounts but NOT my primary. Is there some email setting I somehow messed up -- if so, which? I've tried calling and was told: (a) resetting my PW would fix it; and (b) they would need to send a tech. Ughhh !! For grins, I *did* reset my PW. This happened about a year ago when I got a new 2-year contract. The problem was that I had to eSign it and it didn't arrive in my primary email account and it took a long time to get resolved. Thanks in advance for your help.

[Connectivity] WA State users, routing question

Hi all, I was curious if there were any users in WA that could perform a traceroute to the address eat.valve.net, mine is below: 1 1 ms 1 ms 1 ms router.asus.com [192.168.50.1] 2 10 ms 10 ms 10 ms 96.120.102.141 3 13 ms 11 ms 20 ms po-109-rur102.tacoma.wa.seattle.comcast.net [68.87.206.73] 4 13 ms 10 ms 10 ms po-2-rur101.tacoma.wa.seattle.comcast.net [69.139.164.101] 5 10 ms 11 ms 10 ms be-101-ar01.burien.wa.seattle.comcast.net [69.139.164.189] 6 29 ms 29 ms 30 ms be-33650-cr02.sunnyvale.ca.ibone.comcast.net [68.86.93.29] 7 32 ms 30 ms 29 ms be-11025-cr01.9greatoaks.ca.ibone.comcast.net [68.86.87.158] 8 49 ms 50 ms 53 ms be-10825-cr01.seattle.wa.ibone.comcast.net [68.86.85.197] 9 47 ms 47 ms 59 ms be-10846-pe01.seattle.wa.ibone.comcast.net [68.86.86.90] 10 47 ms 47 ms 71 ms 96-87-8-166-static.hfc.comcastbusiness.net [96.87.8.166] 11 * * * Request timed out. 12 * * * Request timed out. 13 * * * Request timed out. 14 75 ms 75 ms 102 ms eat.valve.net [192.69.96.1] The end server is located in Bellevue and the routing has been wonky lately. I've been told some users' routes will stay in/around Seattle while others', like mine, will take a longer, indirect route. Just curious to see if anyone else who plays DOTA 2 or CS:GO has noticed this as well. Thanks!

Got Extreme 300, Replace TG862G w/ CM500V or CM1000 and TM822?

What's the best bet here? I Had Extreme 150, but moved to 300 for an extra $10. 1000Mbps service is too expensive right now to justify updating here in Chicago, but might look at it again when costs come down. I ran out tonight and was going to buy the ARRIS SVG2482AC because I didn't realize the CM500V existed, I don't need the ComCRAP gateway. However, I had second thoughts when Target also had the CM1000, which is DOCSIS 3.1, so I would be a bit future proof, so I picked it up and figured I could buy a secondary cheap eMTA for my Voice Service. I couldn't get the CM1000 activated tonight, so now I am doing a bit more research. Am I better off just getting the CM500V or should I go the CM1000 and TG822 route?

How to order service with no drop to your house?

$

Looking for advise, according to Xfinity I can order with the self install kit because they believe there is a drop to my house. However there is no drop... 20 years ago when I moved into my house there was an old chewed up (by rodents) cable drop stapled to my fence running to the house. This was removed, and I believe this was the local cable drop. Would you just order with the self install kit, then call up to say there is no drop to the house? I have all the inside wiring I need as I was previously on sat. I have a underground conduit with pull rope available running to the easement where that old drop was running to.

[Activate] Comcast Xfinity Refusal to Activate SB6141

Comcast's modem activation system and several reps would not activate my perfectly good modem. They gave a nonsense story about it being active on another account. After several days and many calls to tech support they apparently caved and activated it (without letting me know). I found someone who had a similar experience http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r30122375-Equip-Discussion-about-Comcast-EndOfLife-EOL-yes-or-no-Modems. Has anyone else been given the runaround like this?

[WiFi] Trying to figure out best networking options for Gigabit service

$

Location: Philadelphia, PA Problem: Not really a problem, but trying to figure out what to do in anticipation of the new DOCSIS 3.1 gigabit service being installed in our home. We have a two-story home, with only three coax outlets, all of which are located at the front of the home. Two are located in our second-floor great room, about 25 feet from each other, on opposing walls. One is located in our first-floor media room. We have a horrible time with WiFi performance in our home. There's a large elevator shaft almost smack in the middle of our home and it does a great job at blocking and/or degrading WiFi and other wireless signals. Some of our wireless devices (e.g., Haiku fans, LG washer and dryer, LiftMaster MyQ garage door opener) can't connect to our WiFi more often than they can. We installed a Linksys Velop two-node system a while back, and that fixed or helped some of the issues, but we still have issues getting consistently fast WiFi performance on the floor opposite the router. Modem Make/Model: Thinking about getting the Netgear CM1000 Home Networking: Linksys Velop router with two nodes. Other than that, just some ethernet hubs to split the hardwire connection to a few Ethernet-connected devices (e.g., iMac, TiVo, Apple TV, Hue hub, SONOS speakers). So, here's my question. In an effort to secure better WiFi performance that can better take advantage of the gigabit service. Ideally, the modem and main router will be in our media room so that those devices can all connect via Ethernet to our network. That, however, introduces issues with WiFi performance on the second floor. Is there a way to somehow extend the Comcast network to take advantage of the other coax outlets in the house, so that we can have a router on each floor broadcasting the same network? Really don't know what to do because it's not possible for us to put a router in the middle of our house where it would be ideally located for best overall WiFi performance. We're open to a better router (the Velop hasn't been the most reliable system).

Slow Speeds and many Uncorrected Errors

I subscribe to 1Gbps service with Comcast. The phone reps keep telling me my line is good. I have never been able to get higher than 200Mbps. Any insight is appreciated. Here are my modem stats:

Why use RG6?

$

I think I've brought this up a few years ago. But in the last week my I was over at my mom's house and her internet was acting up and I looked at the signals on the modem and the SNRs where completely in the crapper and some channels were unidentified, So I ruled out that there was any immediate problem with anything inside, so I decided to just unhook every thing from our side of the ground block and hook up the cable modem out in the garage, so the only piece of cable I could find long enough to go from the demarc around the side of the house and into the garage was RG6, and when I went to screw it on I had the same annoying issue as always RG6 where the cable is just too rigid and wants to fight you the whole time when connecting it which is made worse by the way demarc boxes are designed. For all the normal connections I make in the demarc box I use some RG59 headend cable which is a hell of a lot more flexible and works very well in a demark box. Demarc boxes aren't the only place that's 6 is too stiff either, I find with today's light weight modems that rg6 is stiff enough that it sort of holds onto the equipment instead of just plugging into it and hanging off it, also I don't know how anybody makes it bend to fit behind wall plates without kinking it, since when you put a connector on the cable it makes the first 1inch or 2 of the cable very very stiff. RG 59 is much more flexible which you would think would be a more desirable property of the cable over rg6. The attenuation characteristics are really quite similar for the distances in a normal CATV install it shouldn't make a difference and if RG59 isn't sufficient enough for the drop then RG11 should probably be used instead. RG59 can be made with all the same shielding specifications as RG6 and infact since the cable is less likely to be bent to extremes like rg6 it's probably more likely to keep it's shielding integrity versus rg6. So, why do CATV companies really use RG6, especially for really short jumpers, like in the Comcast self install kit they always seem to include a super short like 2 or 3ft RG6 patch cable which is usually crammed in the package rolled up in a coil beyond the minimum bend radius and when you try to use the cable it fights you when you're screwing it in and once you get one end screwed in and try to screw on the other the cable is so stiff that the whole thing transfers torque down to the other end and starts unscrewing the connection you just made.

[Connectivity] Mac Mail doesn't work

My Mac Mail v 11 stopped working. It keeps asking for password then says it can't verify the account. Comcast rep had me change password then try again, still doesn't work. I get on the Xfinity site and see mail just fine. Anyone, ideas? Update, now I can send, from the Comcast account to a Gmail account in the same mail program

[Speed] Comcast Upload Update?

$

Alright, so I remember that roughly one year ago, Comcast stated that increased upload speeds were coming in "2017." (https://www.dslreports.com/shownews/Comcast-Promises-Faster-Upstream-Speeds-Next-Year-137992) I personally don't care if this increase comes in the form of DOCSIS 3.1, Full Duplex DOCSIS 3.1 (which is still undergoing spec to my knowledge - so I expect this is not the most immediate solution), mid, or high split. Has anyone seen updates on these phantom upload speed increases? Some more sources: http://www.lightreading.com/cable/docsis/comcast-hints-strongly-at-upstream-mid-split/d/d-id/715771 (Ha! This was over two years ago! Riiight...) http://www.multichannel.com/news/distribution/comcast-eyes-upstream-expansion-it-pulls-fiber-deeper/411718 https://www.dslreports.com/shownews/Comcast-Symmetrical-Cable-Broadband-Coming-in-Next-24-Months-139090 I know the year is not over yet, and it's not like Comcast actually follows through with their time schedules, but it seems like a lot of "upload-to-the-press" to me. Just seeing if anyone has heard something new that I haven't.

So, Curious were the bridge mode status is on this modem. Some time ago I read that it couldn't be bridged. Curious if that's changed now or if people here are using it in bridge mode.
