[Equip] XB3 vs XB6 (Puma 6/Puma 7)

I’m having a real hard time trying to figure out what the current status is between these two chipsets. I got an email that I had to turn in my trusty TG862G because we got a free upgrade from Performance Pro to Blast! Pro in my market and so I ordered the equipment, they sent me an XB3, I set it up and went about my day. Well I got an email from my roommate the next morning asking if there were internet problems because she kept getting disconnected from her work’s Remote Desktop every 10 minutes or so and it was working the day before. I went down and check her WiFi, checked for packet loss using DSLr tools, everything seemed fine so I suggested that it may be Comcast or it may be the employer or it could be in the middle and suggested she try my VPN. She was able to complete her work without any further incident so I assumed that it was just some network issue. Well today I got a notification about a reply to my message in the thread about the upgrades where I said I got the XB3 and I was informed about the Puma 6 and did some investigating and through some testing, came to the horrible conclusion that I indeed had a Puma 6 modem and was heavily affected. The problem is that the TG862G cannot handle the 300Mbps provisioned service for Blast! Pro and I really don’t want to buy my own modem because there are too many failure reports on the MB8600 right now and I’m not going to buy a Surfboard either with all this mess so I sent my personal care assistant over to the connection center and asked for a Technicolor XB6. They only had one XB6 and based on the product number starting with TG, I’m assuming it’s Arris (I’ll have to wait until he gets back with it to set it up and check it out). The question is - I’ve been hearing conflicting reports about the Puma 7. Specifically, I’ve seen that in my network conditions (IPv4 exclusive), the Puma 7 seems to perform much better than the Puma 6 although not perfectly. Also since it’s an Arris product, it’s much likelier to have the firmware updated to fix it before Technicolor would update the XB3 - so which should I use or should I tell Comcast to stuff their Blast! Pro, save my 15 a month and go back to Performance Pro, and then hope to god that the connection center has an older gateway in stock on Monday when my personal care assistant will be out again? I’m totally confused because I’m seeing conflicting reports about the state of things on the Puma 7 and the degree that it’s affected compared to the Puma 6 (like RDP shouldn’t drop anymore on Puma 7 and gaming should be acceptable on Puma 7). Can someone help me sort this please? Thanks. Edit: I’m an idiot. FCC ID. TG3482 - it’s Arris.

SB6120 becomes locked up, requiring reboot

My location is Northern Washington state, subscribed to Comcast internet only for about a year and a half. I've been seeing an issue on and off for the last half-year or so, where my Motorolla SB 6120 modem will become "softlocked". The indicator lights appear normal (even blinking to indicate activity), but internet access will become completely disabled. I can't access the modem's GUI (192.168.100.1), can't get a DHCP response for my router, and I can't even ping the modem. The only way to work around it is by unplugging it and plugging it back in, after which point it will boot up like normal and things will begin working again. The log remains, but it doesn't seem to indicate anything useful. Note that the most recent event occurred around Jan 12 2018 at about 1100-ish. If anyone knows of how I can get Comcast to double-check the software/firmware, that would be great! I know my modem is EOL, but for the speeds we're getting I really don't see a need to buy a new one. Hopefully this isn't some planned obsolescence a la Comcast. [Plan] Side Discussion on DOCSIS 3.1 Gigabit service

Mod Note: This topic started as "XI Gigabit DOCSIS 3.1 - data cap with 3-year agreement?" It has become a general discussion of this deployment, hence the title change. uid://455626 If you actually have had this service installed, the stickied report topic is here. > https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r30960001-Speed-Report-DOCSIS-3-1-Gigabit-Service-Here If you report, please include info requested in the first post and keep that topic strictly on topic. Thanks, sortofageek The XI Gigabit DOCSIS 3.1 is now available in my area. I am tempted to sign up. Early reports said unlimited data with a 3-year agreement. The Comcast website says nothing but the typical disclaimer about the data usage plan. I don't want to sign a 3-year agreement for a plan with a data cap. Does anyone know if the XI Gigabit service is subject to the data usage nonsense? Greetings everyone: I have a question, for those of you with a Netgear R8000 X6 router, what are the settings that you have for ipv6? Can you post a screenshot? This appears to be the same router Comcast is providing for the Gigabit Fiber service. Thanks!

[Equip] Zoom/Moto MB7621

I was just looking around and noticed last month Zoom released a new 24x8 D3 modem that is approved by Comcast, no longer cutting edge but it's Broadcom based and half the price of a D3.1 modem and about $15 less than what the CM600 retails for, sadly like the CM600 there is no spectrum analyzer (although it's not really that useful anyways,) but looks like it might be another solid option for someone without gigabit service who wants to save $11/mo over renting at this new rate the modem will pay for itself within 8 months. Here are some specs from the Motorola Networks website. -24x8 DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem -24 downstream channels for speeds up to 1,000 Mbps* -8 upstream channels for speeds up to 246 Mbps* -* Actual downstream and upstream speeds depend on a number of factors including the speed of your cable service -Downloads 24 times faster than DOCSIS 2.0 -Advanced design with Broadcom integrated circuit technology -Full-Band Capture digital tuner for even higher speeds and a faster, more reliable Internet -Supports IPv4 and IPv6 for powerful, flexible network addressing -Works with DOCSIS 3.0, 2.0, and 1.1 services -Modem’s 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet (GigE) LAN port allows connection of a router, HDTV, game station, or other Ethernet-capable device -Typically saves over $120 per year in cable modem rental fees. Actual savings depends on your cable service provider -Fast, easy setup using Quick Start -5 status-reporting LEDs -Ruggedized lightning and power surge circuits protect your investment -Space-saving unit minimizes shelf space and improves cooling for reliable performance -Product dimensions: 7 7/8” tall x 2 1/4” wide x 7 1/4” deep (200 mm x 57 mm x 184 mm) Quick Start Guide:https://assets.contentful.com/0dyo76hkwr49/2zjSwlh6tygA8swOIkaOk8/24a5316c1e4da567e30a3945550cb0b3/27780-EL_revA_MB7621_QS.pdf Interesting it looks like they include a little stamped sheet metal 7/16 wrench with the modem in the package,

[Bill] Should I renew my contact?

$

If I renew with a 2-year contract (the current one is a 12-month contract) it will still be the same price. Should I do that? Right now I am paying $70 for Gigabit internet and $10 for a home phone, they also offered an internet based TV at no extra costs. Other options would be WebPass $60 per month or $550 per year, with no home phone, or Wave G $60 per month for 100Mbps or $70 for 100Mbps with home phone via IP PBX or at Gigabit Speed with an one year contract but no home phone or $80 at Gigabit Speed without contract and home phone.

SB6183 Lots of Uncorrectables downstream on Comcast

I am in a large Apartment building and noticed all the uncorrectables when I logged into my Arris SB6183. My speed from Comcast is 150Mbps. The uptime is 44 days. Should I be concerned about this? Any way to fix it? Thanks

Xfinity Gateway

I'm going to assume the answer is yes but just wanted to confirm. If I use one of Xfinity's supplied gateways and don't enable bridge mode and use an additional router. Could Xfinity have access to my LAN side of the network?

[Firmware] XB6 New "Prefer Private Connection" option?

$

so I just got a replacement xb6 after my last one would not negotiate gigabit speeds with any ethernet device I tried, and the wifi would cut out every few hours. Logging into the WebGui and clicking "View connected devices" I see a new checkbox option named "Prefer Private Connection" Anyone knows what this option does? what connection would it get if I unchecked it?

Is there any way to get 100Mbps+ upload speeds?

$
0
0
Without paying for the 2Gbps/2Gbps. I saw this post: http://www.dslreports.com/faq/15643 Which shows the provisioned speeds. Is the upload speed limitation is a software one or the technology not being able to support fast upload speeds? That said, I really would like fast upload speeds. I backup much of my data to Dropbox and it will take forever to sync with 50Mbps (it already does where I live now with 75 Mbps). In my area I can get the Gigabit for $105 or Extreme Pro (400Mbps) for $100 so it's a no-brainer to get the gigabit.

[Rant] Comcast Blunder

My contract expired in Dec. 2017. I finally called last Wednesday to see if any promotions were being run for long time customers (since 2003). Spoke with a very friendly rep. Bottomline I could save 17 bucks a month. Not a lot, but enough. I told the rep I needed to consult with my wife before going forth because the CMT TV would be dropped and two other channels I have no use for. She likes to watch Nashville on CMT. The rep said he would call me back the next day to discuss the promo and ask for my approval. Needless to say he never called. No big surprise there. I had to make a run the next day to my local CC store and drop off an unused DTA which was replaced by a Tivo Mini Vox. So here's the kicker when the rep at the store tried to remove the DTA from my account she couldn't remove it. Tried again and the system would not allow it. She asked me if I had placed my account on "seasonal status" I said no as our home is lived in 24/7. I explained everything to her that happened last Wednesday with the rep over the phone. She said if I didn't give the rep the authorization that he did it on his own. Once again this an individual at CC NOT doing their job. I was very pissed but kept my cool. A supervisor came over to review the situation and apologized 'till the cows came home. She called over to the call center and spoke with his supervisor who placed him on "review" for an unauthorized change to my account. At this point I knew Comcast was serious about changing the culture and providing good customer service. (I hope) I was happy with the outcome as they were able to get the account back to where it was before the changes. So I am back to square one. My bill is 230 per month and have decided it not worth the time and aggravation to save 17 lousy bucks p/m. I could have made the changes at the store and said the hell with it. So that's was how my Saturday was spent...how about you? :uhh: :uhh: :uhh:

[Speed] Xfinity very slow connection after neighbor gets xfinity too

Ever since my neighbor had Xfinity installed from the same pole that ours is from the road 2 months ago, websites and media have been loading very slowly. It is almost like having dial-up with how slow websites, gifs, or images load. However, speed tests show the correct "speed" that my plan is (Down: 180 Mbps | UP: 24 Mbps | Ping: 11ms). I have had two Comcast techs come out to diagnose the problem, but regular techs are not allowed to fix problems with the drop point/line on the pole on the road side. They can only replace/fix issues within the house side. The techs have stated both times that it is most likely an issue with how they split the drop point from the pole on the road, but since my levels are "within Comcast's recommended range" (although being the bare minimum power levels), they are unable to send a line maintenance person to look at the drop point on the road side to fix my slow loading issue. I have troubleshooted everything on my end as well... Tested on multiple devices. Ethernet straight into modem. Tried another brand new modem. Tech replaced drop amp on house. Use no line splitters. Coaxial cables all good. So to sum it all up: - Drop point from pole on road was messed up when neighbor had Xfinity installed from same pole. - This has caused very slow loading of websites/media ever since, even though speedtests show correct bandwidth - Comcast techs diagnosed issue from house end and suspect the drop point/line from road is the issue - Line maintenance person is only person authorized to work on and fix drop point/line on pole - Line maintenance person refuses to come fix it unless power levels are out of "Comcast's range" Modem levels: http://puu.sh/z1OSX/b98edf89e8.png Anything else I can do to have them fix this issue?

My IPv4 is dead right now but IPv6 is ok [att=1] Sometimes it would help if I check if there is anyone pee on the CMTS/RF amplifier, Internet would be down if someone pee on it [att=2] However, I found no pee at all [att=3] Except I found some very interesting comment [att=4] Which made me cannot stop laughing at all [att=5]

[Speed] Slow Download Speed on SB8200 and CM1000 but XB6 Works Fine

$

I recently upgraded service to Xfinity Gigabit. While connecting to either Arris SB8200 or Netgear CM1000, the download speeds max out at 650 Mbps (connected directly from the modem to a PC). But when I connect through the Comcast XB6-A the download speeds are consistent around 950 Mbps. I have spent a few hours with Comcast technical support (not tier 3) on the call but they keep saying that it's the modem. I don't understand how two different modems can be bad. Can someone help with this? Thanks in advance.

[Equip] 6120 vs 6183

Having a problem with dropouts, and after poking the router for a bit, I moved on to the modem. Relatively new Arris 6183, replacing a Motorola 6120. And yes, there are lots of both corrected and uncorrectable codewords. But why did they leave out the unerrored codewords statistic in the 6183? HOW IN THE Heck is anyone supposed to do a decent analysis of the potential for a problem if the percentages of total traffic cannot be ascertained ? Anyway, pursuing the likely suspects to figure out how to cut down on the errors. Suggestions appreciated.

[Rant] Terrible Service over the Past Two Days

Yesterday around 1:30pm or so our Internet, Phone, and X1 TV stopped working. I called and of course the rep said there was no outage reported. After some unsuccessful troubleshooting, she called a higher tier of support and found out there was in fact an outage. The rep advised me it was due to a node issue. Service was back a little over an hour later (not bad). To Comcast's credit, we were given a premium channel free for 3 months and some free movie credits. Fast forward to this evening, I get a call from a family member saying that service is down yet again. I checked online and the only message I see is about scheduled maintenance. At 6:30pm?! We also experienced "node issues" late last year as well so this is nothing new. AT&T Fiber can't arrive any faster. /rant Edit: Now receiving a message about an outage.

[Other] Did Xfinity change my hostname (on macOS)?

I had ATT DSL for many years. I signed up with Xfinity a few weeks ago and have their Arris gateway. I've been super-happy with the new service, speeds, uptime, etc. I noticed that when I go into terminal mode that my prompt is different than it used to be before Xfinity. Someone told me that when I did the setup for the router/modem (which was really quick and easy) that it can change the hostname (in terminal enter "hostname" to see what yours is... at least in macOS.) Did Xfinity change it? If so, if I changed it to something else, would I lose my Xfinity connection? Thanks. Al

[Install] About a Comcast Installation

Hey all, I have a queston I'd like to ask. So I've recently signed up for Internet-Only service a few days ago and I have an installation schelduled on the 20th of this month. I am renting the house that I'm in currently and no cable has been installed in this house previously.. I am aware that you need to have written consent from the landlord to drill through the walls to run the cable through, but 1) Can a coax cable be ran through a window? Will the installer allow this? 2) If so, do you still have to have written consent from the landlord in order to have cable on the premises at all? No, the landlord hasn't said yes or no to drilling holes in the wall; I haven't asked. This is just a matter of options period. I only need one line for my leased modem as I am only getting internet.
