So, Curious were the bridge mode status is on this modem. Some time ago I read that it couldn't be bridged.
Curious if that's changed now or if people here are using it in bridge mode.

[Equip] Motorola MB8600 password length limit
I just got a Motorola MB8600 to go with my upgraded 300/12 service. First thing I did after activating the modem was change the factory password to a random letter/number 16 character string. It lets you set the password, but try to enter it from the login screen and the modem just laughs at you. Grr. Seems that the modem has a 15 char password limit that is inconsistently enforced. If authors are going to have such limits, why the heck can't the software truncate both the password when it sets it and truncate it when you enter it on the login screen?
It seems that the password is entered via javascript and not a simple text area. Chrome doesn't seem to want to save it in its builtin password manager. Are others seeing the same thing?

[Speed] Consistently Slow Upload Speed; Intermittent High Latency
Location
Monroe, LA
Problem
I'm have Comcast's 150/20 HSI. Up until this past Friday, my connection has been chugging along quite happily. Since then, I have consistently slow upload speeds and latency issues while gaming or when connected to VPN for work. Download speeds are fine; if anything, they're slightly over-provisioned as speed tests consistently top out at 175-180 - no complaints there. Multiple tests with both Xfinity's speed test and Speedtest.net consistently show I'm getting 5Mbps or less upstream, though - sometimes it'll get up to about 10Mbps if it's in a good mood.
In World of Warcraft, my usual ping rate is around 60ms or less. Since Friday evening, I've noticed that a few times every hour, my ping rate rises significantly - the highest I saw was ~800ms. This causes the game to become almost unresponsive.
I frequently work from home over a VPN connection. Part of my work is done in a Citrix environment - essentially a virtual desktop. I notice a lot of rubber-banding with my mouse cursor while working in that window. Citrix has always been a pain in the butt, but this particular issue, like the ping rates in WoW, started on Friday. Just to test, I connected my laptop to my iPhone's hotspot - the performance issues in Citrix disappeared, so definitely not an issue with the Citrix environment itself.
My Equipment
Netgear CM400 cable modem (firmware V1.01.20)
Netgear Nighthawk r7000 router (firmware V1.0.9.14_1.2.25)
My Own Troubleshooting
Multiple speed tests with both Xfinity's test and Speedtest.net - on each, also made sure to test to different servers. Interestingly enough, Xfinity's speed test regularly gives higher upload speed results than Speedtest.net. Xfinity typically tests to Memphis; Speedtest.net typically tests to Bossier, LA.
Speed tests done by wire both through my router, and connected directly to the modem.
Speed tests done over WiFi on my phone and on a laptop. Test results are consistent with wired tests.
Tech Visit
A tech visit was scheduled since the troubleshooting I did with the online rep didn't fix anything. The tech ran some tests and said the line looked clean, and made some "just-in-case" fixes like replacing the coax connector and checking the cable run outside and its connection in the MDU box (I live in a triplex). As noted above, I have a personal modem, rather than shelling out $120/year to rent Comcast's gateway. I understand that in this scenario the Comcast techs may not be allowed to say, "You need to buy a new modem." After all, they can't troubleshoot personal equipment, and if they told a customer to buy another one and that didn't fix anything, the customer could make a stink about having spent money at their direction and their stuff still doesn't work. This tech, though, just seemed to be talking out of his rear-end. Before the tech even shows up at my house to look at anything, he called and told me I needed to get Comcast's gateway as using a personal modem can cause connection issues. When he did show up, he went on to say that having a separate modem and router isn't good, and again, I should be using Comcast's all-in-one gateway because all-in-ones are "better." It felt more like I had a sales rep in my home than a technician. The tech also said it could be my ethernet cable going to my desktop. I told him I get similar speed test results on my phone connected to the WiFi. He straight up looked at me and said, "Impossible." Nothing like a tech calling you a liar to your face. I pulled out my phone, ran the speed test and showed him the results. I absolutely acknowledge that a wired connection is superior to a wireless connection, but for a simple speed test on a 5GHz wireless network, my WiFi can handle 150/20.
Now, again, the tech said things looked fine from his test unit looking back towards the head end. I also acknowledge it may be an issue with my equipment. I'm hoping I can get some assistance in determining that here. I checked my modem's cable connection stats (see attached image) and compared what I saw with Comcast's recommended numbers. As far as I can tell, they all look right. However, I'm not confident enough to say I know for a fact what I'm looking at, so I'd like a second opinion.
Many thanks in advance for any help or suggestions you all can offer!

ESPN streaming stutter on Comcast
I'm trying to watch Alabama-Georgia playoffs on ESPN app on Amazon Fire TV and the video keeps stopping/starting. How do I figure out what the problem is? Did ESPN not pay Comcast for the fast lane? Is it node congestion and eventually Comcast will do a node split? Maybe some local Internet issue for New England? Anyone else seeing an issue?

[Tier] Performance 70/5
said by uid://1807615 :said by uid://460461 :said by uid://460461 :Looks like it's time to update the FAQ again.
Performance [70] also appears to be missing from the FAQ. This is what I currently have, as a grandfathered service. In markets where "Performance" is still offered to new customers, is it not 70/5 anywhere?
I've never seen a Performance 70/5 tier mentioned, how long have you had that?
For the West Division, the advertised download speed for the Performance tier had been updated from 25 Mbps to 55 Mbps (https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r31478459- ) and now to 60 Mbps.
I thought I better take this separate from the discussion of the Performance Pro and Blast Pro speed increases. Since beginning of March last year. The email above was dated March 3, 2017. See this discussion from March 1:

[Connectivity] Pure sine ups with modem?

I wouldn't be running the coax though the ups just plugging the power into the battery back up plug.

[Connectivity] XBox, Netflix, Youtube, General Browsing Problems...
So, the subject basically identifies my problem. I have Comcast Xfinity Extreme 105. I get the speedtest results that I like to see, but the actual performance overall is less than pleasing. We use the modem as a bridge and manage the network with a nighthawk r8000. I have opened ports for xbox yet frequently get jumping NAT types (open to moderate) and my pings from game to game literally oscillate like a sine wave.
Netflix and youtube streaming are never smooth sailing and I used to watch netflix with speeds of 25 down without a hiccup. I'm still watching at 1080p and I understand there are more devices weighing down the average home, but in an effort to isolate the problem, I chose to do a complete reset of the router and force any existing connections to be reconnected with a different SSID and password. It did not help. With only 1 xbox running and 4 phones connected via WIFI, (yes there are direct ethernet-connected devices), the results initially were good but the same patterned returned within days.
I don't know what the problem is - comcast or nighthawk. I am appealing to the masses here to see if there is a solution for me or am I supposed to be looking for a different router? It seems to me that MANY people have this router and tax its services way more than I do, but our performance is less than stellar.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

[Speed] Comcast Upload Update?
Alright, so I remember that roughly one year ago, Comcast stated that increased upload speeds were coming in "2017." (https://www.dslreports.com/shownews/Comcast-Promises-Faster-Upstream-Speeds-Next-Year-137992)
I personally don't care if this increase comes in the form of DOCSIS 3.1, Full Duplex DOCSIS 3.1 (which is still undergoing spec to my knowledge - so I expect this is not the most immediate solution), mid, or high split.
Has anyone seen updates on these phantom upload speed increases?

[Speed] Side Discussion About Gigabit Pro & earlier Gigabit Deployments
Anyone know if Comcast has actually started installs? I live in the west palm beach, fl market announced for deployment this month. So far phone agents don't know anything of the service. I've been told by different agents, 2016, June and it'll be in the system tomorrow. None had even heard of the service before I inquired and they did a bit of research, so I went to out local sales office to inquire in person. There I had to show them the press release, to which they simply said its not yet available in the market. Seems like this was a pure fiber to the press release hail marry announcement to try to salvage the dead merger.

[Caps] Have your 2 courtesy months reset for 2018?
According to Comcast, you get 2 courtesy months for every 12-months. I called and was told this resets in the beginning on each year. So its 2018 but I don't see my courtesy month resetting.
Does anyone know what is going on with this? Did your courtesy months reset?
Thanks.

[Connectivity] Help / Advice with Signal Levels on new Netgear CM1000...
Guys, I posted earlier when I was trying to decide on which modems to get, and I ultimately I went with a CM1000 and older / cheaper eMTA for voice only, the TM822G. Now I've been playing around with the wiring. My house is only a couple of years old, but they did run a new feed to the house about 6 months before I moved in, due to signal issues the previous owner was having. The feed originally came in on white coax and goes into an evo-1-9-U/U 9 Port Active Return Amplifier Coax Splitter. I had the previous Xfinity Wireless Telephony Gateway in Bridge mode connected to the -3.5dB voice modem tap on the evo. The cable to each of the bedrooms was then split off the 9 port splitter.
Now I've moved to DirecTV in all the bedrooms except one. I'm not sure if the Comcast feed should come into a SV2G splitter and 1 side going to the CM1000 and the other going to the evo 9 port input with the one bedroom hooked to one of the standard outputs on the evo and my voice only modem on the voice modem tap of the evo. Here are my signal levels on the CM1000 with it hooked up the way I just described. It seems my SNR looks low to me, but I am not positive.

[Caps] Data usage per month - how much do you use?
Hi Comcast folks. Over in the Optimum area we are discussing data usage, since we are unlimited. I know some of you are, some of you are not. Just curious what everyone here uses per month.
For me, I have an average 20 to 25 devices connected at a time to the network, quite a bit more when family or friends come over. We use Google Wifi (3 pucks) for our router. We use anything from TV's (roku's) to xbox one to steam pc to nest cameras. No cable, streaming only, and we use about 2 to 2.5TB per month (1TB or so down, 1 to 1.5TB up) due to the nest cameras and working from home.

[Speed] Slow Download Speed on SB8200 and CM1000 but XB6 Works Fine
I recently upgraded service to Xfinity Gigabit. While connecting to either Arris SB8200 or Netgear CM1000, the download speeds max out at 650 Mbps (connected directly from the modem to a PC). But when I connect through the Comcast XB6-A the download speeds are consistent around 950 Mbps.
I have spent a few hours with Comcast technical support (not tier 3) on the call but they keep saying that it's the modem. I don't understand how two different modems can be bad. Can someone help with this? Thanks in advance.

[WiFi] Trying to figure out best networking options for Gigabit service
Location: Philadelphia, PA
Problem: Not really a problem, but trying to figure out what to do in anticipation of the new DOCSIS 3.1 gigabit service being installed in our home. We have a two-story home, with only three coax outlets, all of which are located at the front of the home. Two are located in our second-floor great room, about 25 feet from each other, on opposing walls. One is located in our first-floor media room. We have a horrible time with WiFi performance in our home. There's a large elevator shaft almost smack in the middle of our home and it does a great job at blocking and/or degrading WiFi and other wireless signals. Some of our wireless devices (e.g., Haiku fans, LG washer and dryer, LiftMaster MyQ garage door opener) can't connect to our WiFi more often than they can. We installed a Linksys Velop two-node system a while back, and that fixed or helped some of the issues, but we still have issues getting consistently fast WiFi performance on the floor opposite the router.
Modem Make/Model: Thinking about getting the Netgear CM1000
Home Networking: Linksys Velop router with two nodes. Other than that, just some ethernet hubs to split the hardwire connection to a few Ethernet-connected devices (e.g., iMac, TiVo, Apple TV, Hue hub, SONOS speakers).
So, here's my question. In an effort to secure better WiFi performance that can better take advantage of the gigabit service. Ideally, the modem and main router will be in our media room so that those devices can all connect via Ethernet to our network. That, however, introduces issues with WiFi performance on the second floor. Is there a way to somehow extend the Comcast network to take advantage of the other coax outlets in the house, so that we can have a router on each floor broadcasting the same network? Really don't know what to do because it's not possible for us to put a router in the middle of our house where it would be ideally located for best overall WiFi performance. We're open to a better router (the Velop hasn't been the most reliable system).

[Account] Comcast Vacation/Seasonal Hold or lack there of
I am going to be away for over 2 months. I chatted with an agent gave them the dates and they said sure you can put your account on hold and provided a number for the seasonal hold department - 800-934-6489. The chat agent even confirmed the dates (which was for 75 days), and of course she should have my account information which identifies my location.
I then called the number and after going through automated prompts which still supported that I can put my account on hold, I finally got transferred to a phone representative. Who again, was like sure, we can do that for you, it will be $8 a month but it must be for a 90 day minimum. But then he proceeds to tell me sorry we can't do it because of your location.
This is ridiculous. The first chat agent should not have confirmed that it can be put on hold and had me waste my time calling, if it is unavailable in my state. (Btw, it is only available in like 4 states which is crazy)
Its very frustrating this customer unfriendly policy. Wireless companies do not have separate rules for which part of the country you live in. In my opinion this is highly discriminating.
Comcast really needs to move to the 21st century and have the same rates and promotions across the country
There commitment to customer service needs to be taken more seriously

[Price] I have to get Comcast. Have a few questions on what to expect
The only available service provider in my new condo that I am renting is Comcast.
I live in Maryland, and in a lot of areas, we have pretty good competition. FiOS is big here. Because of this, Verizon hasn’t implemented data caps.
Pretty much everyone i know who has or had Comcast has a horror story about them. Sometimes it’s outages for days, other times it’s because of their practice of hidden fees or “losing” returned equipment and charging you for it.
The one i am interested in is the gigabit for $105. The fine print says
Offer ends 01/21/18. Restrictions apply. Not available in all areas. New residential customers only. Limited to Gigabit Internet service. Equipment, installation, taxes and fees extra, and subject to change during and after the promo. After applicable promo, or if any service is cancelled or downgraded, regular rates apply. Comcast's monthly service charge for Gigabit Internet is $104.95 (subject to change). Service limited to a single outlet. May not be combined with other offers. Actual speeds vary based on several factors including modem capabilities. XFINITY hotspots included with XFINITY Internet Performance (and above). Does not apply to Performance Starter and below. Available in select areas. Requires compatible WiFi enabled device. 30-Day Money-Back Guarantee applies to one month's recurring service charge and standard installation up to $500. Call for restrictions and complete details. ©2017 Comcast. All rights reserved.
So i had a few questions. It says that service is limited to a single outlet which makes sense if it’s a cable line. How much is the rental of the modem? I’ll probably use it as a bridge and buy a decent third party router.
Is comcast still using shared cable lines? With Fios, we have our own line. In the past I’ve known Comcast gets slow in the evening when your neighbors are on.
Are there any other fees i should know about? Once it’s all said and done, how much will i generally be paying per month?
