Streaming Artifacts
All I am among the masses dropping our cable boxes off for streaming services allowing a more customized watching experience. I currently have Comcast's gigabit service and very happy with it's reliability and speeds. I noticed tonight more screen artifacts on my tv tonight than normal using my Apple 4K streamer. To give you some background all of my TV's and streaming boxes are hardwired with CAT 6A home runs to a centralized (Unifi) Gigabit switch so we can rule wireless out. As the outdoor temps get cold my MB8600 modem signals are great and fall inline with "normal" from all the resources found here in this forum. My follow up question is since many are starting to stream vs using cable boxes does this put more strain on the overall system network that could be causing artifacts? Cable boxes use data as well but not sure if it puts more/less strain on the system.

[Connectivity] lost my connection - what can I do remotely?
I was having intermittent issues with my Xfinity service - disconnects about once a day for about 10 minutes. So I chatted to one of those Comcast agents who ordered a "tech visit". I am gone for the winter so I wasn't present. The tech must have done something to disconnect my line because now I have no service anymore. When I check on the Xfinity app it says modem disconnected and there seems to be nothing I can do to get it reconnected myself. I keep trying to restart it through the app but nothing happens. This is a huge problem because all my security system is offline and I am gone until spring 2019. I have gone online with all the uninformed chat agents and they cant fix it.
There seems to be no way to get ahold of that tech to find out what they did that disrupted the service. Is it possible that they connected some device to my line which then caused my modem not to reconnect automatically when the line was reconnected? What can be done to get it back remotely since the residence is fully locked up and nobody can get in there to do anything?
I am really desperate because I've lost all my connection. Please help me.

Who to contact at Comcast to request cable be put on street...
The story is my girlfriend and I were about to sign an offer on a new construction house. This is on Mount Wachusett in MA. The street has about 9 houses on it (maybe more). It's probably about 1/2 mile long street, maybe a bit more. I believe Comcast is available on the cross streets. Comcast is the only internet/cable company in town. The street has no cable. The house isn't bought/built yet because if I can't get internet we can't live there.
I've tried calling Comcast to no avail. We spoke to a neighbor and they said that Comcast will schedule install but when the tech shows up he can't do anything because the cable isn't run on the street. No one can figure out who to call. Every call and chat I've done online results in some Indian telling me to build the house and they will put it in the system and install. But I know this is not the case. Their system tells them the street is serviceable. But apparently it isn't.
I'm hoping there is some other contact that can actually help. Even if we needed to pay to run cable it could be an option. Everyone on the street would likely pay something. I have contacted the town offices to see if they can help but haven't gotten a reply.

Upstream issues after getting Giabit.
This is partially a crosspost from the DD-WRT forums. I upgraded to Comcast Gigabit here in Minneapolis, MN, and I immediately began having issues with streaming to Twitch. I couldn't go more than 5 hours without it lagging out and dropping my upload speed to as low as 2Mbps down from 44. I had only swapped two pieces of hardware; an Arris DOCSIS 3.1 modem and a new ASUS router. My problem turned out to be my router.
I wanted to use QoS on the ASUS router but it required me accept some dumb agreement with TrendNet
[att=1]
So I never enabled QoS on that piece of crap router. I ended up returning it for a Linksys WRT3200 and it not only fixed my upload problems, but it gave me the tools in my router I'm using to having due to DD-WRT. I actually prefer Tomato, but tomato seems to be in a bad place right now.
Why do routers even try? The default firmware in both the ASUS and Linksys routers I got were unusable. I'm using the word "UNUSABLE" here. It's absolutely terrible and you can't do basic things like QoS and DDNS very easily. It's almost bad enough for me to want to vent about it in a youtube video by showing actual examples of just how garbage firmware is on routers out of the box.
As far as Gigabit, I love it and it's worth it. I wish the upload was faster, though. Come on, Comcast. 200Mbps upload minimum!

Comcast work may have caused deadly explosion.
https://denver.cbslocal.com/2018/11/17/carol-ross-aurora-fire-heather-gardens/
“As a response to the explosion, Xcel energy shut off power to much of Heather Gardens for a period of time last night. As of this writing, all of CP-IV and Building 217 remain without gas but efforts are being made to restore gas as quickly as possible. Xcel staff are examining each building in CP-IV and notifying HG security when service has been restored,” Heather Gardens Association said in their statement. “The Public Utilities Commission has requested that all Comcast work on installation of fiber optic cables be suspended until further notice. That request has been honored.”

Comcast $120 new iPad deal
Not sure if this has been shared yet or not, but anyone with a Comcast triple play can get a $429 iPad (latest model) with 128GB storage for $120, at just $5/month for 24 months on the bill. This is probably the best deal that I've ever seen on a new iPad, next to free. My mom just redeemed it. I do not have Comcast, but if I did, I'd be on top of this deal.

DPC3941B questoin
Good morning.
I have a 3941B Gateway just installed by Comcast. When power is lost to the Gateway, the wifi radios are automatically disabled. I have hunted and pecked for a setting that will disable this "function" (I need WiFi available at all times.)
Anyone know if this "feature" is able to be disabled?
Thanks in advance.

[Connectivity] All screens go black momentarily
At seemingly random intervals computer screens go black momentarily while audio stays on. It happens on my Chromebook, ThinkPad T480, Asus HB1M-Plus as well as our Samsung 55" smart TV. I think it only happens during YouTube videos, regular broadcast cable shows and Netflix streaming. Operating system are Chrome, Windows 10 Pro and Windows 10 Home. The Xfinity router is a "Dual-Band WiFi 802.11ac XB3" The PCs are cabled to the modem, the Chrome book and Samsung TV are connected by Wifi. I would say it has been happening for the past year but the blackouts seem more frequent now. The blackouts may last for 1 or 2 seconds. I am not positive but I think it happens individually, and not all screens at once.
Is anyone familiar with this phenomenon? Cause? Is it Comcast" modem (my best guess) or the Comcast/Xfinity network? If not, any ideas how to test or or eliminate causes?

Xfinity Devices
Trying to figure out what the hey is connected/not connected to my X1 gateway. Some I have been able to figure out. But have 4 that are shown as LiteonTe-(and digits) and a couple other ones too. I have check device details to no avail. I have multiple WiFi enable pieces of equipment (thermostat, camera, DVD, etc) around the house. I have chatted with Xfinity Customer Service with no luck they transferred me to the "next level" again no luck. They suggested to call the security department since I suggested that if I don't know what the equipment is and they don't either could it be someone nearby accessing the system through my gateway for nefarious reasons? Guess what they had no idea either. I have tried a Google search on each unknown and the LiteonTe-**** seemed to be a WiFi chip built into whatever. Just doesn't say what it is built into. One of the devices listed as connected is WhiteRod-0462 that comes back as a porn movie doing a Google search! Any suggestions where I could get a bit more detailed info on what these are. That is versus having to try (physically difficult for me) and unplug everything that me be (or possibly has been) connected? Appreciate it. And thanx....

[E-mail] Anyone with email issues using a POP client?
I am well aware of the changes that xfinity made but apparently it's causing issues. Several threads on the official Forum about troubles.
https://forums.xfinity.com/t5/Email-Web-Browsing/Email-Outlook-Express-not-working/td-p/3164212
https://forums.xfinity.com/t5/Email-Web-Browsing/email/td-p/3163949
My POP check(Mailwasher) quit working for all my Xfinity email accts. However my email client still works fine. Scratching my head. I had to quit using SSL and go back to port 110 for Mailwasher to work again.
Also finding different references as to which POP server to use. mail.comcast.net vs pop3.comcast.net. Depends on which Help you read.
Still testing at this point.
Edit: Apparently it's a configuration issue on Xfinity's end. SSL trouble?

Stoneybrook & Scott opportunity....
Are there any plans to extend or build out into the area of Scott & Stoneybrook as noted above? We only have Windstream available for land based internet as other large providers won’t build out into our area at all. I’ve had confirmation of this from multiple sources.
I can safely state that even though this neighborhood is on minimum 5 acre lots, all in this neighborhood would jump at the chance for better internet connectivity (better than a max of 15/1).

Looking for recommendations to replace Comcast modem with voice?
Finally deciding to buy my own modem rather than pay the Comcast fee. I see Amazon has NETGEAR Nighthawk WiFi Cable Modem Router+ Voice (24x8) AC1900 DOCSIS 3.0 | for Xfinity Internet and Voice Services (C7100V-1AZNAS) for $259 with $20 coupon.
Is there a better or another recommend modem with voice to get. From what I have been reading my choices are limited. Also, is it easy to setup, any disadvantages with going with new modem?
Thanks

[E-mail] Is Comcast doing away with POP mail access?
After the recent email issue on one of the topics on the Comcast forum itself this was posted by a user.....
"Just talked to Comcast tech support about the email breakage. He claimed that Comcast has permanently abandoned POP3 (downloading email to my machine), forcing customers to use IMAP (all messages reside on a Comcast server, which includes UPLOADING messages moved from one client folder to any client folder under the IMAP account). I am furious and may quit Comcast after 20 years as a customer."

Retail eMTA - ARRIS SBV3202
Hi all,
Looking for a retail eMTA for use with Comcast Voice. On Comcast's approved list, they have the Netgear CM500v and ARRIS SBV3202 listed. Does anyone known anything about the Arris modem? Info online seems to be scarce and my biggest concern is if it has the problematic Puma chipset since it is a 32x8 DOCSIS 3.0 modem. Links to Arris's site and Comcast's listing are below.
