[Equip] Need advice - user purchased modem frustration.
The rental on my cable modem went up this month so I decided to buy my own. I have the Xfinity triple play plan with voip, but I decided to buy a Motorola MB8600 because I liked the reviews, and we don't use voip.
I planned to set it up myself online, but I could not get to the website and I ended up calling Comcast for help. I spoke to a tech who told me I could not have this modem on my plan because I have voip - I would have to get a voip capable modem, or change plans. I told him that no where had I seen anything to this effect, and I asked to be elevated. The supervisor told me the same thing, wouldn't budge.
While I was talking to her, unexpectedly, the Comcast self-install site popped up, and I walked through it and provisioned my modem - everything started working. I told her that my internet was working and terminated our call. At that point I thought I had beat "the man".
Later, I took my old modem into the Comcast store to return it, and "the man" came down on me again with both feet. The clerk at the store told me the same spiel, that I would have to buy another modem, or change plans. He wouldn't take my modem back otherwise. I finally said "ok" and told him I would change plans if there was no alternative. He offered me basically the same plan I have now, with no voip, and MUCH slower internet (I currently have extreme pro). Here is what really stuck in my craw - this great deal was going to cost me the SAME as my old plan.
tl;dr Do I replace my new Motorola, or can I just do a comcast return online for my old Arris modem and return it via UPS? The motorola is working great. Anyone else have this experience?
*old man shakes fist at Comcast*

3.1 Modem Signal Strength
Would a knowledgeable person take a look at my signal strength. I have a before and after pdf since the drop line was replaced with RG-11. Curious to know if my signal strength improved and if it is substantial.
Thank you,

[Install] Just ordered 3.1 Giabit - Can I use my own Router?
Hi Everyone,
I just finally ordered Comcast's Gigabit service. From what I have read I will need a new 3.1 Cable Modem for this.
Does anyone know if any of the modems that Comcast supply for Gigabit service can be run in "Bridge Mode" , so that I can use my own Router? (I understand I may not get Fully Gigabit speeds thru my own Router , as its a couple of years old).
I have read these forums on the subject in the past and have never really been able to get a definitive answer. and times change..
Do I need to ask the tech for any specific brand that they carry? or is it a case that I may have buy my own cable modem?
Thanks in advance..

Modem/Router combo with voice recommendations
Hi guys,
Can anyone recommend a decent modem/router combo with voice to use with Xfinity's triple play package?
Something in the $100.00 to $150.00 price range.
Thanks..

[Equip] Upgrade to Netgear CM1100 worth it?
I was at Costco today and I saw the new Netgear CM1100 and I noticed 2 ethernet ports. I have the gigabit upgrade with my double play. Is the modem worth the upgrade or should I stick with my CM1000. My router is the Netgear Orbi.

Super Triple play offer -- avoiding the modem rental fee?
Hey everyone,
Comcast called me the other day and offered me the Super Triple Play:
It's 149.99/mo with a 2 year commitment. Comes with NETFLIX, HBO®, SHOWTIME®, STARZ®, CINEMAX®, TMC®, plus unlimited voice, gigabit internet, plus every channel they offer. My current promo is almost up and this runs out 12/21. It seems like a solid deal/value and will only increase my bill 20$ but doesn't include the rental fee, which is 11 and going to 13. I already own my SB8200 but I would be okay with buying a replacement gateway if necessary. Doesn't look like they sell the TM3402 retail and the TG9442 doesn't seem to be out yet. I don't really need voice but it seems like this is the best deal for everything offered.
Do I have any other options to get triple play without renting their stuff?
Thanks!

[Speed] Comcast Upload Update?
Alright, so I remember that roughly one year ago, Comcast stated that increased upload speeds were coming in "2017." (https://www.dslreports.com/shownews/Comcast-Promises-Faster-Upstream-Speeds-Next-Year-137992)
I personally don't care if this increase comes in the form of DOCSIS 3.1, Full Duplex DOCSIS 3.1 (which is still undergoing spec to my knowledge - so I expect this is not the most immediate solution), mid, or high split.
Has anyone seen updates on these phantom upload speed increases?
Some more sources:
http://www.lightreading.com/cable/docsis/comcast-hints-strongly-at-upstream-mid-split/d/d-id/715771 (Ha! This was over two years ago! Riiight...)
http://www.multichannel.com/news/distribution/comcast-eyes-upstream-expansion-it-pulls-fiber-deeper/411718
https://www.dslreports.com/shownews/Comcast-Symmetrical-Cable-Broadband-Coming-in-Next-24-Months-139090
I know the year is not over yet, and it's not like Comcast actually follows through with their time schedules, but it seems like a lot of "upload-to-the-press" to me. Just seeing if anyone has heard something new that I haven't.

Router settings fo IPv6
Do these settings seem right for Xfinity: https://www.tp-link.com/us/faq-881.html
IPv6: Dynamic IP SLAAC/DHCPv6)
Assigned Type: SLAAC+Stateless DHCP
Prefix Delegation: Enable
Before enabling it, I could not get IPv6 on test sites and after do those settings I can. So I assume it is right but wanted to check here.

What is the range of the signals of the modem? (power, snr) See mine attached.
Since I have lots of values in the Corrected/Uncorrectables section is that a problem?

[Equip] New Motorola MT7711 eMTA Gateway
Figured I'd mention this in case anyone may be interested. Saw that there's a new Motorola MT7711 gateway with voice. It appears to be the cheapest of the 24x8 voice gateways currently($199.99), assuming you don't consider the discount coupon on the Arris. Didn't seem to find any other posts about this, sorry if it has already been mentioned.
It is a Broadcom device like the C7100V.
Doesn't seem to have MoCA like the SVG2482AC.

Customer Security Assurance
First some background. I have had a Comcast account since 2012 at same location. I always leased a Comcast modem-router.
Recently, because of a problem that led to a replacement modem and then latency issues with the replacement, I decided to get a new modem. I got one last weekend, a Netgear CM600, and installed it Tuesday. It has worked well, and latency is better.
This afternoon, while using it, I lost internet. Also my PC's network indicator went orange. I went into the modem GUI and checked the log. An error with the exact timestamp states "Resetting the cable modem due to docsDevResetNow" I also noticed it had the same error with a timestamp indicating early afternoon yesterday.
After a minute or two, my PC's network indicator indicated all was fine, but I still could not access internet sites. I would get "not private"error messages in Chrome.
I called Comcast. At first, the tech was blaming the new modem and said he would have to send out a tech. I then asked for a tier 2 tech. After a long wait, I got a different tech. She was going to try to re-provision my modem but she got an error. She read it to me.
The error message that the new tech got when she tried to reprovision my modem was: The modem is in abuse state. Contact the CSA department.
She said CSA is Customer Security Assurance. She transferred me to that department. A very nice guy answered. After verifying me, he looked at the modem. He said a file, in the mode, was wrong. He said he would correct the file. He did and now I have access.
Anyone know what any of this means? Again, I have always leased a modem. I am now concerned this could be an ongoing issue.

[Equip] When you switch back to an old modem should it need reactivated?
Say you activate a new modem, like a Motorola MB8600, and then you had issues with the MB8600, if you reconnect your previous modem lets say it's an SMC D3CM1604 should that SMC modem no longer be activated and require reactivating through the walled gardenm via chat or by telephone, etc. or should the modem be ready to go, just plug it back in and it will work?

Who to contact at Comcast to request cable be put on street...
The story is my girlfriend and I were about to sign an offer on a new construction house. This is on Mount Wachusett in MA. The street has about 9 houses on it (maybe more). It's probably about 1/2 mile long street, maybe a bit more. I believe Comcast is available on the cross streets. Comcast is the only internet/cable company in town. The street has no cable. The house isn't bought/built yet because if I can't get internet we can't live there.
I've tried calling Comcast to no avail. We spoke to a neighbor and they said that Comcast will schedule install but when the tech shows up he can't do anything because the cable isn't run on the street. No one can figure out who to call. Every call and chat I've done online results in some Indian telling me to build the house and they will put it in the system and install. But I know this is not the case. Their system tells them the street is serviceable. But apparently it isn't.
I'm hoping there is some other contact that can actually help. Even if we needed to pay to run cable it could be an option. Everyone on the street would likely pay something. I have contacted the town offices to see if they can help but haven't gotten a reply.

Questions re: switching to xfinity; Plans/Equipment
We were residential Comcast customers for many years. When Verizon Fios came to our neighborhood, we switched. That was about six years ago. Our Fios agreement is up for renewal. By switching to xfinity, it looks like we can save a bundle.
Considering xfinity pricing and our desire to keep a landline, one of the triple play plans seems best. As we already have Netflix, which Comcast will give us with a Signature or Super plan, and our desire to keep HBO and Showtime, the Select plan doesn't seem to make sense, even though 250 down is likely more than we need. (One desktop computer, one two laptops, two HD Tvs, three smartphones, two iPads. But only some of them at use at any one time. No internet gaming or the like.)
With Verizon, we use as a router a T-Mobile Cellspot Router, which is a rebranded Asus RT-AC68U. It's been quite satisfactory. I don't know, however, whether I should be concerned that it's firmware doesn't seem to be upgradeable. How seriously, if at all, should we consider, and budget for, a new router?
Based on the foregoing, is there any reason not to go with the Signature Triple Play? Before fees and taxes, but adding HBO, it's $15/month cheaper than Super. Also, if I understand correctly what I've read about cable modems and telephony, it would be about $84 cheaper to buy, say, a Motorola MB7261 (plus a used Arris TM822G) than an Arris SB8200. This translates to break-even after 12.5 months rather than 20.5 months.
If so, should I let Comcast install their Gateway product, to make sure everything works properly, and then substitute my combination within the first 30-days? Or, can I, and would I be better off, having Comcast install the Motorola/Arris combination from the get-go?
Also, we can save an additional $12/month by moving our mobile phone service to Comcast, but only if we're on the Super plan. What do people think about the quality of xfinity mobile? We're currently with T-Mobile, on a very old, grandfathered family plan that is too good to give up for T-Mobile One, Verizon, AT&T, or even Google Fi. Although Xfinity mobile looks to be significantly less expensive than our T-Mobile plan, if the service proves unsatisfactory, it would cost us a lot more to move back to T-Mobile.
TIA

Netgear CM1100 experience on Xfinity
The CM1100 is now available at Costco and is on the supported list of Xfinity supported modems.
https://www.costco.com/Netgear-Nighthawk-CM1100-DOCSIS-3.1-Cable-Modem.product.100464287.html
I finally got a chance to hook mine up today replacing my Zoom/Motorola MB8600. So far, so good.
Pros over the MB8600 so far:
- Spectrum analyzer mode is available (I missed this on the MB8600, as I had it on my SB6183)
- Additional statistics are available for all of the different types of channels on the Netgear CM1100 vs the Motorola
Cons:
- Web GUI is a bit buggier than the Motorola
- Took longer to enter the walled garden than I am used to, even tried forcing DHCP renew. Took several minutes.
Here are the version numbers on my modem:
Hardware Version 2.02
Firmware Version V2.01.02
Immediately after activating the modem with my laptop, I enabled Ethernet Port Bonding/LACP-IEEE 802.3ad, and connected to my pfSense router. This appears to be working fine. Both IPv4 and IPv6 also appear to be working fine. I'll keep this updated if I have any problems.
I'm going to keep an eye on stability versus the MB8600. My MB8600 was finicky needing frequent reboots (once ever couple of days due to ARP black hole) with LACP disabled and less frequent reboots (once or twice a month) with LACP enabled. This was most likely a compatibility issue with the CMTS (appeared to be an Arris E6000 based on the Cadent MAC).
