I was at Costco today and I saw the new Netgear CM1100 and I noticed 2 ethernet ports. I have the gigabit upgrade with my double play. Is the modem worth the upgrade or should I stick with my CM1000. My router is the Netgear Orbi.

Odd coaxial connector
Hey all, my father wanted me to move his modem downstairs so he could direct connect his computer instead of using wifi. I went over to his house to unscrew the modem and saw these odd circle plates over the end. What is this and do I need a tool to remove them? Thanks in advance. :-)

[Firmware] 8600-18.2.12 firmware update.
Since the firmware update things have been happening I haven't seen before.
There was rarely anything in the Event log, now it's 20 to 30 a day of RNG-RSP CCAP power in access of 6dB below the value of corresponding to the top.
My upstream power levels have jumped from the lower 40s to low and mid 50s.
My downstream levels have stayed pretty much the same except the OFDM PLC channel 32 now shows 15.4.
Everything seems to be working OK, but just curious.

[Mobile] "Xfinity Mobile" wireless service
As mentioned in this recent DSLR news item https://www.dslreports.com/shownews/Comcast-Prepares-For-Mid2017-Wireless-Service-Launch-139048 , Comcast is planning a mid-year launch of their wireless service.
Comcast announced today that they will be providing the details on this new service on Thursday:
Comcast to Host Analyst Event to Discuss Launch of Mobile Initiative
Comcast press release, Business Wire - April 3, 2017
http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20170403005198/en/Comcast-Host-Analyst-Event-Discuss-Launch-Mobilequote:On Thursday, April 6, 2017, Comcast will host an analyst event to discuss the details of its previously announced mobile initiative, which utilizes an existing MVNO agreement. Senior members of the Comcast leadership team will participate in the event. ...There is also this FierceCable article today about it:
Comcast sets Thursday meeting with investors to discuss wireless launch
By Daniel Frankel, FierceCable - April 3, 2017
http://www.fiercecable.com/cable/comcast-sets-thursday-meeting-investors-to-discuss-wireless-launchquote:Some of the telecom industry’s most closely guarded secrets could finally be revealed Thursday, when Comcast hosts what it calls an “analyst event to discuss the details of its previously announced mobile initiative.”
:
Comcast confirmed plans to launch a wireless service combining the strengths of its vast Wi-Fi network and its MVNO deal with Verizon back in September. The launch has been slated for sometime later this year.
:
Last week, FierceWireless reported that Comcast is quietly partnering with Apple as it prepares to launch wireless service under the brand Xfinity Mobile: http://www.fiercewireless.com/wireless/comcast-quietly-taps-iphone-ahead-launch-xfinity-mobile
The cable giant’s name has been added to behind-the-scenes - but publicly available - code that lists carrier bundles for the iPhone. The list of carrier bundles is used by iTunes and iPhones to determine whether the iPhone’s SIM is supported by a service provider with whom Apple has an agreement, then provisions the phone accordingly.
The iPhone's latest list of carrier bundles includes "Verizon_Comcast_LTE_US," and mentions the service "Xfinity Mobile." A source pointed out the reference to FierceWireless, and a different source with knowledge of the matter confirmed that Comcast has indeed partnered with Apple ahead of the launch of Xfinity Mobile. Best Method to Contact Comcast to Change Plans
Should I call, chat or go online and select the plan? Is one method better to get a better deal or service? I am changing to triple play and have found two plans online that I am considering. There are three TVs, so I'll have to select some options. I 'd also like to buy my own modem and router and do a self-install if possible. Any gotchas I need to look out for ?

[Event-Log] Netgear CM1000-1AZNAS requires restarting in the morning
I got the Netgear CM1000-1AZNAS from Amazon at the start of the year, ever since Comcast decided to raise the Xfinity equipment fee from $10 to $13.
Recently, I would say the past 2 weeks, my performance has been really bad, especially in the morning, unless I reboot the modem. A 1 minute unplug used to do the trick, but the other day, it just wouldn't work, until I followed Google Wifi's advice to unplug the modem for 5 minutes. I diagnosed it to my modem and not the router, due to when I plugged my TV straight to the modem, it was still really slow.

Does anything from the modem side look odd? Any indication on whether I should get a new modem or reach out to Comcast?

[Price] 2 year $70 gigabit offer w/ free xFI equipment rental?
I was checking my upgrade deals via my xfinity account and found an offer that expires today for 2 years of gigabit @ $70/month with a 1-year agreement. They are throwing in the xFI modem/router for free (during the 2 year agreement, then it looks like it'll be charged a monthly rental).
Is anyone on this offer? I currently pay $69.99 for Blast Pro 250, so this seems like a no-brainer for a penny more a month.

[Price] No Comcast Internet-only?
Just got our upcoming bill. Comcast is changing things here. Bill is 25 percent higher. And... looking at internet-only service, website says not available. Comcast is now offering internet, but it appears you must also subscribe to tv service, including local tv fees, delivered streaming to your own device and with max 20 hours cloud dvr service. I haven’t gone to our local office yet, but I will.
Adding... new bill is $174/month for 150 mb download, starter hd service with dvr.

Xfinity/Comcast SPAM-800-934-6489
Despite requests to discontinue the calls, Xfinity/Comcast continues to call me from 800-934-6489 telling me my modem is outdated and I may not be getting my full speeds. I told them I am getting the full speed and that should I wish to replace my modem I would purchase one myself. I still, however, continue to receive calls from this number after telling them to stop calling me. The number is now blocked on my phone. There are enough issues with spam calling and there is no reason why one should have to deal with Xfinity/Comcast spam calls. Posting this so others are aware of this issue.

Xfinity Pricing Philadelphia
Hello all,
After being a Verizon FIOS customer for 15 months, my bill has steadily increased as I know is the norm for most people. I had been paying 78.00 for internet 100/basic cable, and the new price is now 109... and about to go up to 117 after a discount expires. I threatened to leave, and they could give a crap so i called Xfinity today.
My question is for anyone in the Philly area. I chose the double play package for 59.99 (only year 1, and then 79.99 for year 2.) With a set top box and router, it comes to 75.67... WITH taxes, my bill will be 96.89 (again, only for the first year.) Is 21.22 normal for taxes? With FIOS, my tax portion came to 8.71 cents. I was excited when i heard the 59.99 price, but im shocked to see my final bill be 10 bucks off what im currently paying. Granted, i will actually be blessed with 125+ channels vs the basic i have now.
Still, im thinking of switching because the two FIOS Cs reps were abrasive and actually told me that renewing my contract would cost me more than i pay now?!
I am all about lowering my bill, so i am exploring antennas and buying my own router now. That said, im not that technical so dont want a nightmare on my hands.
Thanks for any advice.

Router Recommendation for CM1150v
I preparing to go for a triple play (mostly like w/ 1 Gig internet) and looking for recommendations or legit reviews for retail a router with a CM1150v. If I were to rent the modem, will CC supply a different modem and are you required to rent their router .

[Signals] Signals are still horrible after 2 declared outages today
I’m in Delran, NJ. Sometime around 4 pm Saturday April 6, my TV picture started breaking up and my Internet got a bit sluggish. I called into Comcast and while on the phone an outage was declared. I thought well at least they’ll work on it. I went outside and talked to my neighbor who mentioned his TV kept cutting out too.
An hour later the outage was marked as resolved and things were a bit better, but my signals were still jumping all over the place. The SNR reported by my modem and Tivo ranged from 23 to 39 as the signals dropped and returned to normal. Around 5:45 pm I called Comcast again and was talking to someone who said my signals were in the red and scheduled a tech for Monday. About that time my modem went offline and another outage was declared.
5 minutes later my modem was back online, but TV was still out. The outage was marked as resolved around 6:15 pm. For about 3 minutes after that everything was working, but after that the TV started breaking up again. As of around midnight, my TV has been out. My modem is online with horrible signals, though oddly a ping test run here passed. That despite all the errors in the attached screen shot were from the last few hours since I powered cycled my modem.
http://www.dslreports.com/pingtest/nil/3511176
So basically after 2 declared outages, both which were marked as resolved after less than an hour, I’m still having problems. Is there some way to get Comcast to declare another outage considering my neighbors are also having issues?

Daily Disconnects Since Upgrading to Gigabit...Please Help!
Within the first couple days of upgrading to Gigabit service, I started getting random modem resets. They generally happen about once every day or two. I've gone about 4 days straight without a reset and also have had as many as two in the same day. On the status page, there won’t be many “corrected” or “uncorrectables” errors if any at all. And, when the modem resets, if there were any errors shown, the numbers reset to zero. Other than the resets, everything works great while it's working. The four main “events” I receive are:
- SYNC Timing Synchronization failure - Failed to acquire QAM/QPSK symbol timing
- No Ranging Response received - T3 time-out
- Received Response to Broadcast Maintenance Request, But no Unicast Maintenance opportunities received - T4 time out
- Dynamic Range Window violation (though this has seemed to be fixed with a noticeable downstream power increase on 26 Mar)
I have approximately 40 feet of RG6 Quad Shield, 18 AWG, 3 GHz Double Foil RG6 cable directly from my outside wall where the orange Comcast RG11 cable connects from the street connected to my SB8200 modem in my office. I installed it myself in my crawlspace when we moved into the house three years ago. I've had no issues with it, or the service, prior to upgrading to Gigabit. There are no splitters...just one RG6 cable.
Here's a rough timeline of what I've done to troubleshoot.
29 Jan – Upgraded to Gigabit Service Plan.
1 Feb – Activated Gigabit service over the phone.
27 Feb – After posting my daily disconnect issues on forums.xfinity.com and on here, someone suggested I check the outside connectors for corrosion. I found orange RG11 cable from the street loose and as I was re-positioning the cable back in the box, the cable became disconnected from crimped end connector.
28 Feb – Tech came out to recrimp. Said signal was good although downstream power was between -4.0 dBmV and -6.5 dBmV.
23 Mar – Called and reset modem with automated system after unexpected disconnect. Still a lot of “Dynamic Range Window violation” events.
26 Mar – Called and reset modem with automated system after unexpected disconnect. After the reset, I noticed that the downstream power was up anywhere between -2.5 dBmV and +1.0 dBmV. It seems like the Dynamic Range Window violation events have gone away with the new downstream power increase.
31 Mar – Called and reset modem with automated system after unexpected disconnect.
1 Apr - Called after unexpected modem reset. Talked to Robert (CR838926043). Said it might be a problem with the upstream signal. Scheduled tech to come out 3 Apr between 10 and 12.
3 Apr – Tech Robert came out and said the RG6 cable was “sucked out” of the connector a little bit. He re-crimped a new end connector on. All signals remained the same. He said they were going to put my line on some kind of watch where they monitor signal levels.
[att=1]
6 Apr – Called after unexpected modem reset. Said no issues seen and I have what’s called a “Green Mile” where the signal looks good. Possibly an issue with the SB8200 modem. Suggested I buy a new DOCSIS 3.1 modem but save the receipt so I could return it if it didn’t fix the problem.
7 Apr - Called after unexpected modem reset. Talked to Sofi in Malaysia. Said it may be upstream signal interference. Scheduled a tech to come out 10 Apr between 5 and 7. She said there may be a $79 fee for the tech coming out. I told her I'd gladly pay it if he fixed my problem.
I'm not sure what else to do. I bought a new RG11 cable and am ready to replace the RG6 cable that's run now. It's in the crawlspace, so it wouldn't be too much of an effort. I'm contemplating buying a new modem. I need to talk to my neighbors to see who else has Comcast/Xfinity and if they're experiencing any of these issues.
Any other suggestions are welcome and appreciated.
