CM1150V - High latency and low speeds when downloads start

Hello, I have Comcast Gigabit DOCSIS3.1 service. I was using a Motorola MB8600 until the modem started locking up earlier this week. Everything shown in this test is using hard-wires (Cat6A), no wifi. I decided to replace with a Netgear CM1150V, even though I don't have voice service, because it has 4*1G ports, and IMHO was the most comparable to what I had with the MB8600 (I didn't want to buy another one after a failure). With the CM1150V, I've been noticing that whenever I start a download from a fast server that's sending at speeds over ~100Mbps, I get very high latency (100-300ms) for the first 5-60 (sometimes longer) seconds of the transfer, along with slow transfer speeds (around 30-100Mbps). I am measuring high pings to both 192.168.100.1, and to destinations on the internet (say, 1.1.1.1). I have low pings still across my LAN, and I am using a Juniper EX2200 and a FreeBSD server with PF as my router normally -- but I've replicated the same issue by plugging my laptop directly into the CM150V. At some point after 5-60 seconds, the high latency drops away, and the transfer speeds up to 500+Mbps, assuming the server is fast enough. If the transfer continues for many minutes after that, speeds can be sustained, but there seems to be a problem getting the modem 'ramped up' to full speed. This is the strangest behavior I've ever seen on a cablemodem. It seems like there is a CPU which is getting overloaded in forwarding packets before setting up hardware forwarding of a flow, but that's purely speculation. I've attached a screenshot showing this relationship between latency and slow speeds at the beginning of a transfer. The top-right window is "netstat -in 1", showing the amount of packets/bytes in and out every second. Bottom left is starting a curl download of a 1GB file. the other two windows are pings, also running one per second, so they should line up with the "netstat" window. Does anyone else see the same behavior. Any ideas what is going wrong? Perhaps this is an issue because of the voice feature (which I am not using), and I should be replacing it for a CM1000/CM1100 if I can get my hands on it? Thanks in advance.

Its time to say goodbye.........................................

After about a month and a half of service, it is time to say goodbye . Other than a 4 hour outage(service area outage) one Saturday morning, service was okay for the period of time. Wife wasn't happy during the outage since we did not have access to TV(cord cutter here), internet and our 2 VOIP lines. She said "Navyson, I don't remember the service being down when we had Verizon". I said we sure didn't in the 10 years we had Verizon Fios before. The outage coupled with the fact that Comcast just isn't competitive in its service offering in my area. For the same price $39.99 for Comcast 60/5, I am now getting 100/100 from Verizon Fios. No brainer to switch back. If Comcast wanted to be somewhat competitive, they would at least offer a higher download speed(than Verizon) for the same price especially since they can't compete with Verizon/fiber when it comes to upload. Dropped off my Comcast router at UPS and have confirmation they got the box back.

Edgerouter and CM1150v link bonding

Has anyone one else who is running an Edgerouter used the LACP with it and their CM1150v? I have mine setup and have been noticing that every 10 to 12 hours that the link seems to degrade when running a speed test. A reboot of the router or modem fixes the issue but I can't figure out if it's buggy firmware in the modem or in the Edgerouter that is causing the issue. I also have two ports on the Edgerouter in a bond to my switch and another from that switch to another switch that connects to my PC and the link from the router to the switch doesn't seem to have the same problem making me think it's an issue in the modems firmware. Anyone else see something like this happening?

comcast neutrality / testing the waters / paywall / future price

A friend was asked to take a survey for comcast and thought I would find this interesting and I did so now I am passing it along Aye-yi-yi-yi Scary times ahead! It looks like more bundling and inclusion of non-relevant crap with price increases to pay for said crap and less freedom of choice are in our future - IMO if they are going to 'expand' the customer loyalty program they should keep the prices as low as possible (not moneygrab) and expand relevant features like speed increases and uncapping for loyal customers not be trying to be the provider for all your needs while charging you $500/mo... I like comcast's technologies but sheesh! EDIT: and for that matter FIX THE PLAN MANAGEMENT PAGE so that folks can select from great offers for EXISTING customers which actually SAVE THE CUSTOMERS MONEY! / allow internet only downgrading from the plan management page!

Data cap question

Thought I would throw this out before having to call a csr. I currently have gigabit service and since I stream lot’s MLB.TV games I added the unlimited add on for 50$ just Incase I went way over. So far this month I am at 300GB but at this pace I should be under the 1TB cap. So if I drop the unlimited service go over, get the 2 free courtesy months and let’s say I go over by 10 gigs and get charged the $10 for 50GB. Can you still do this every month and just pay for whatever overage data used?. Does Comcast at at some point say you need to go to the unlimited plan. I just don’t see myself going way over the cap especially since I added the unlimited plan and would rather just pay $10 or $20 a month rather than the flat $50. Thanks guys..

question about triple play and 2 modems

Hello, I have a question I couldn't find an obvious answer to. My neighborhood is in the process of getting comcast installed, they hope to be installing houses by the end of the month. Anyway, I bought the netgear cm1000 on sale for $119 from costco in anticipation of getting service next month.. however what I didn't anticipate is certain channel tiers being tied to certain speeds. for example, I can get double play, 250mb and 250 channels for $129 (before hd, receivers, etc) or I can get triple play, 250mb, 210 channels for $99 a month Factoring in $40 in taxes and DVR fees, I'm looking at $169 (DP) or $139 (TP) Obviously the TP is looking more attractive, but here's the problem. The CM1000 doesn't do data/phone. I have an old zoom 5431 8x4 modem.. could I split the signal, and use that one for voice and the netgear for data? Any thoughts anyone has would be appreciated. thanks

This is around the corner from my house. It is an aluminum housing with an antenna on it, mounted hanging upside down from the street light arm. It has been there for years, there are others around town on other street lights. What are these devices?

[Event-Log] Netgear CM1000-1AZNAS requires restarting in the morning

I got the Netgear CM1000-1AZNAS from Amazon at the start of the year, ever since Comcast decided to raise the Xfinity equipment fee from $10 to $13. Recently, I would say the past 2 weeks, my performance has been really bad, especially in the morning, unless I reboot the modem. A 1 minute unplug used to do the trick, but the other day, it just wouldn't work, until I followed Google Wifi's advice to unplug the modem for 5 minutes. I diagnosed it to my modem and not the router, due to when I plugged my TV straight to the modem, it was still really slow. https://imgur.com/a/EatSADC Does anything from the modem side look odd? Any indication on whether I should get a new modem or reach out to Comcast? After the other Firmware update topic I decided to reboot my MB8600 just now. Upon reboot it went into the 2nd reboot cycle. Sure enough the firmware updated from 8600-6.1.1.19 to 8600.18.2.12. The Cable Modem certificate number changed as well. Also noting some other/new info/messages. My Event Log now shows something I had never seen before. DS profile assignment change. DS Chan ID: 32; Previous Profile: ; New Profile: 1. REG-RSP-MP Mismatch Between Calculated Value for P1.6hi Compared to CCAP Provided Value Also on my OFDM channel, which has never shown any errors for me, now is showing a ton of "Corrected" errors while the SNR is only showing 16.1 dB.

Xfinity Gigabit vs AT&T Fiber

I have AT&T Fiber (1 Gbps) at home in Irvine. I will be in Fremont for a few months and want to know which is faster/better/reliable Xfinity Gigabit or AT&T Fiber. I would assume both services are fiber (new construction) and I will be using Ubiquiti network equipment USG Pro (hence will go for the bypass with AT&T). Which service should I opt for? Will I have a faster connection to my home network (Plex/Nextcloud, etc...) in Irvine if I opt for AT&T? I also see the option for Gigabit Pro (2000 Mbps) but the pricing is a bit steep at $299 per month. $120 per month is probably my max.

Anybody else get hit with a big price increase in SE FL?

My double play package increased in price $25/month, or an almost 20% price increase. I was already off contract at the time of the increase. Since Comcast CSRs are reputed to no longer play the cancellation game (they'll cancel you as requested without bothering to try and win you back), are there any solutions for reducing the cost of service?

[Speed] Link to current speed tiers

Where is the link to the current speed tiers? I am looking at reducing my plan and looking at some of the double play options, I see tiers for 100Mbps and 150Mbps but I need to know upload. The service location is in North Central WV and we are fed out of Pittsburgh. Looking at the reddit site, I see the 150Mps, Performance Pro for Northeast and West, only has 5Mbps and there is no 100Mbps and the only one close @ 105Mbps is only for West - grandfathered. I really wish they would post upload along with download.

Currently I have SMCD3G-CCR with Comcast Business and static IP. I am upgrading my speed to 150M and apparently they have to replace the gateway. What modem/gateway is recommended as a replacement for SMCD3G-CCR?
