Just noticed this today. Looks like the mobile hotspots now offer IPv6 in addition to the usual CG-NAT style IPv4 access. Also looks like Xfinity Mobile service is finally pulling IPv6 over Verizon's network too.

gigabit pro now 3x to get upgraded to 6gbps

since i havent seen anyone else post it yet... Note: Beginning June 1, 2022, some Gigabit Pro customers will be upgraded from 3 Gbps to 6 Gbps symmetrical speeds. All Gigabit Pro customers will be upgraded to 6 Gbps in the coming weeks. surely comcast feels the need to 1 up everyone else. always follower, never leader. especially since they just recently upgraded the 2 gig to 3gig and im always one to bash a company, but they have also been fwiw "testing" 10gbps on their gigabit pro users ever since it became 2 gig. ever since they upgraded my area to rphy ive been tempted to try to order this again... but i really dont want to if cable will get us 100mbps+ really soon anyways.... ugh. https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/requirements-to-run-xfinity-internet-speeds-over-1-gbps California, sf bay https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r33421851- Illinois, Chicago https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r33428933-

[Equip] Still possible to activate old Netgear CM400 or Motorola SB6120?

I have a couple of old modems lying around that worked fine in the past on Comcast (at least for lower speed tiers). One is a Netgear CM400 and the other is the Motorola SB6120. I know that both have fallen off the official list of Comcast's supported devices (although the Netgear CM500, just one generation newer, is still listed). Anyone know if either of these modems can still actually be activated though, at least on Comcast's slowest 50/10 tier? I hate to recycle or throw away any old equipment if it could be given to someone and made use of. I do recall having success once, a few years ago, in getting an older model modem activated even though it had fallen off the official list, so maybe it can still be done? Just wondering if anyone has activated either of these specific models recently. Thanks.

[Speed] Are gigabit tier subscribers seeing a full 1440 Mbps max speed?

Issue with getting Comcast to close apartment building box

I have made several phone calls to repair and I cannot seem to get Comcast to close a distribution box for my apartment building. There are homeless people in my area who will steal wire from that if it is not done. What to do?

[Firmware] MB8611 Software update

I had to power down some equipment today to move furniture and a few electrical plugs work. Powered modem and router back up and now I notice my MB8611 modem is using updated software. Was 8611-19.2.18. Now it's showing 8611-19.2.20. I was not paying attention to the modem as it was powering back on and nothing was indicating in the Event Log. I checked for a firmware/software update not all that long ago but nothing. I cannot be sure if the modem updated today with the power cycle or it had updated at a earlier date and I missed it.

[Mobile] Has anyone ever been able to connect to XFINITY secure hotspots

I installed the Xfinity Hotspots app but in the WiFi profiles it says: WiFi profile management is disabled on this device. Hotspots will not manage the installation of secure Xfinity WiFi profiles on this device. Is there anyway to manually configure so I can use the XFINITY secure hotspots?

I wonder how much of this is due to saturation? There are only so many prospective subscribers, especially in areas where there is no real competition. https://www.cnbc.com/2022/07/28/comcast-earnings-2q-2022.html

How Far Can Coax Go? Or Switch to Fiber? Private Road Long Run

$

I have a colleague who has a house back a private road about 1800 feet. Comcast is out on the main street. The area is thick forest so no chance of beaming a signal from anywhere to anywhere else. It is about 1800 feet in on a private road. If we could get Comcast to give us a drop out at the street, would useable signal make it that far? I have no concept of how much signal strength is on the coax. If that does not work, could we add a headend at someone's house on the street and convert to aerial fiber for that run?

Comcast Montgomery County PA node and amp pic

Comcast doesn’t have any locks on the doghouse so I just wanted to share what’s in these in the Montgomery county PA area. Not all areas use this particular node… I’ve seen some GS7000’s in aerial locations. I didn’t realize how similar the housings are to the amplifier (with the exception of the lid) on the gainmaker node. Note it says 40/52 for the return, if what’s inside is accurate to what’s on the label. They do not have a 5th upstream in the tail end like some areas… it’s the traditional 4 x 6.4 MHz upstream carriers. The system has about 780 MHz of RF bandwidth occupied, so while the node says 1 GHz, the amps may not be. Also found an EQ pad laying there. Not sure if that’s for the amp or the node.

Netgear CM1100. Firmware updated to 10.01.07. Can't access 192

So my CM1100's firmware updated to 10.01.07. Now, behind my Netgear router, I can no longer access 192.168.100.1 with browsers. It's just not there. Doesn't respond to pings either. Did the full paper clip reset, the remove coax and reset, the leave it powered off attempt. All fails. If I connect directly to the modem via Ethernet and reboot to reset the modem, I can log in fine. No visible changes to the options available after I've logged in. Put it back with the router, reboot everything, can't access 192 again. Multiple Netgear message boards posts about this. Anybody else seeing this with new firmware?

Best way to terminate unused Xfinity service

I have a neighbor who no longer has infinity service and they want to properly terminate the service coax to prevent them from adding any noise to the network or get any noise from a disconnected coax. Is there any best way to cap the line? Would just leaving the old cable modem connected but unplugged work?

[Mobile] "Xfinity Mobile" wireless service

As mentioned in this recent DSLR news item https://www.dslreports.com/shownews/Comcast-Prepares-For-Mid2017-Wireless-Service-Launch-139048 , Comcast is planning a mid-year launch of their wireless service. Comcast announced today that they will be providing the details on this new service on Thursday: Comcast to Host Analyst Event to Discuss Launch of Mobile Initiative Comcast press release, Business Wire - April 3, 2017 http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20170403005198/en/Comcast-Host-Analyst-Event-Discuss-Launch-Mobilequote:On Thursday, April 6, 2017, Comcast will host an analyst event to discuss the details of its previously announced mobile initiative, which utilizes an existing MVNO agreement. Senior members of the Comcast leadership team will participate in the event. ...There is also this FierceCable article today about it: Comcast sets Thursday meeting with investors to discuss wireless launch By Daniel Frankel, FierceCable - April 3, 2017 http://www.fiercecable.com/cable/comcast-sets-thursday-meeting-investors-to-discuss-wireless-launchquote:Some of the telecom industry’s most closely guarded secrets could finally be revealed Thursday, when Comcast hosts what it calls an “analyst event to discuss the details of its previously announced mobile initiative.” : Comcast confirmed plans to launch a wireless service combining the strengths of its vast Wi-Fi network and its MVNO deal with Verizon back in September. The launch has been slated for sometime later this year. : Last week, FierceWireless reported that Comcast is quietly partnering with Apple as it prepares to launch wireless service under the brand Xfinity Mobile: http://www.fiercewireless.com/wireless/comcast-quietly-taps-iphone-ahead-launch-xfinity-mobile The cable giant’s name has been added to behind-the-scenes - but publicly available - code that lists carrier bundles for the iPhone. The list of carrier bundles is used by iTunes and iPhones to determine whether the iPhone’s SIM is supported by a service provider with whom Apple has an agreement, then provisions the phone accordingly. The iPhone's latest list of carrier bundles includes "Verizon_Comcast_LTE_US," and mentions the service "Xfinity Mobile." A source pointed out the reference to FierceWireless, and a different source with knowledge of the matter confirmed that Comcast has indeed partnered with Apple ahead of the launch of Xfinity Mobile. Cannot login to Comcast with Android Chrome

When I go to a Comcast site using Chrome on my Android phone, I cannot log in. I get a login screen, but it looks a bit odd and it doesn't work. It just keeps going back and asking for the login. I have seen the oddball looking screen on Firefox on my computer a few times, but if I close Firefox and reopen, then it works normally. As a test, I did a "force stop" on Chrome, but also simply hit "account" on the xfinity.com screen. That gave me a normal looking password entry screen (it already had the account name). Before, I had been hitting the hamburger thing and choosing 'sign in' on the bottom right. This is what the weird screen looked like: [att=1]

[IPv6] Losing my IPv6 address every four days, sometimes more often.

I'm on a Xfinity gigabit connection over a Netgear CM2000 modem and an Netgear Orbi RBK852 router. I do not have any problems with the connection as such, but can't get IPv6 to work reliably. I have to toggle IPv6 of and on several times to get an IP and after four days the IP is dropped and the router says that an IPv6 address is "Not available". If I then toggle IPv6 of and on several times I get another four days of IPv6. This started happening sometime early this year and I am not able to figure out why. I have tried to two different Netgear Orbi routers. Same problem with both. I have tried to factory reset the modem many times. No change. I get a few warnings in the modem log but do not know if those have anything to do with this. They are: Time Not Established (Notice (6)) Honoring MDD; IP provisioning mode = IPv6 Time Not Established (Critical (3)) SYNC Timing Synchronization failure - Failed to acquire QAM/QPSK symbol timing;;CM-MAC=38:94:ed:09:c9:a8;CMTS-MAC=00:00:00:00:00:00;CM-QOS=1.1;CM-VER=3.1; Both of those are repeated often but doesn't have a time stamp. I have tried to talk to Xfinity but they blame Netgear, and Netgear points at Xfinity. Any ideas and/or suggestions greatly appreciated!
