According to our local paper, Comcast is expanding its network into existing Service Electric Cablevision territory throughout 2022-2023.

Any idea on what Comcast will use for a greenfield build? Will it be FTTH? The existing provider is a midsplit system using Arris OM6000 nodes and a mix of Magnavox, Motorola amplifier housings with internals recently upgraded to 1 GHz. Our flagship tier is 1500/150 mbps.
Will Comcast come along with a system more capeable than that, since it’s a brand new build? Or will they just chug along and connect it to their neighboring 750 MHz Scientific Atlanta based HFC plant (installed in the mid to late 90’s)?
I have no issues with my existing provider but I am excited for choice. This will be a 3rd choice in some areas (Windstream kinetic FTTH is in some communities mentioned in the article).
Also if they would choose to do EPON (they have an article for that type of build here: https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/all-ip-xfinity-fiber-only-network )… with the extra bandwidth would they still overcompress all HD down to 720p? Or for networks like EPON that have the bandwidth, could they deliver 1080?

Is Comcast going to limit mid-split speed to rental gateways?
I saw this post on Reddit:
https://old.reddit.com/r/Comcast_Xfinity/comments/werlwc/xfi_complete_upload_speed/
This is a bit concerning because it suggests that you will have to subscribe to XFi Complete to get the higher upload speeds that are coming with mid-split.
Has anyone heard any more information about this? I absolutely do NOT want to have to rent a gateway as it would be running in bridge mode anyway, so it would be a waste of power and space and I also heard the Comcast-supplied gateways can have reliability problems in bridge mode. My Arris S33 is perfectly capable of mid-split upload speeds and I don't want to use anything else!

Is Comcast doing work in Roseville CA area?
Internet was down this morning. Had to reboot my modem Below is the error I see and my current signal levels after reboot. The head end typically has issues once in awhile and it takes forever for comcast to fix it. They keep on just wanting to change the connectors on all my coax ends...Which does nothing. Does anything look problematic below? Thank you!

MB8611 Downstream Light Flashing
More of an OCD think than seeing an issue.. But my MB8611 has started getting the downstream light flashing blue after less than 24 hours since a reboot.
I am not seeing any speed issues that I have noticed, so this is more of a question as to why and it just being annoying.

I just received a "Your current device can't keep up with the latest speeds" E-mail from Xfinity. Upon confirming it was legitimately from Xfinity I logged in and as expected it shows my S33 as being fully compatible with my current plan.
Anyone else getting these in error? Wondering if it was just a glitch on my account or something more widespread.

surely comcast feels the need to 1 up everyone else. always follower, never leader. especially since they just recently upgraded the 2 gig to 3gig
and im always one to bash a company, but they have also been fwiw "testing" 10gbps on their gigabit pro users ever since it became 2 gig.
ever since they upgraded my area to rphy ive been tempted to try to order this again... but i really dont want to if cable will get us 100mbps+ really soon anyways.... ugh.

3) Is the issue intermittent, constant or does it occur at a specific time of day? - Constant in certain areas of the home
4) Your modem make, model & firmware version: Model:CGM4331COM, Vendor:Technicolor, Hardware Revision:2.0
5) Describe any home networking if applicable: Just the Xfinity gateway plus some switches for various ethernet connections.
6) List any firewall and/or anti-virus software you have installed: SentinelOne
I have Xfinity's xFi Complete and parts of my home get really poor WiFi. Xfinity says everything is fine so they won't give me any pods. I also want to extend the WiFi out to my backyard so I can sit at a patio table with my laptop. Are there any recommendations for either disabling the Xfinity device and going with a mesh network from Netgear, eero, or someone else? Or, is there a mesh device that will work with the Xfinity gateway? I had an Xfinity tech tell me that the pods from Xfinity are trash and don't work well.
I have Xfinity's Gigabit Internet Plan which generally gives me download speeds up to 1200 Mbps but my WiFi 6 laptop or other mobile devices can't get a good connection in the far areas of my home so I'm looking for recommendations on boosting the connection.
Thanks!

[NEWS] New Mid-Split Tiers
As requested, I come bearing screenshots. I checked an address in Augusta, GA for this.
The good news...
Upload speeds will be increasing on all tiers, not just the most expensive ones. The increases are significant.
The new mid-split tiers are:
50/50, 100/100, 300/100, 600/100, 900/100, 1200/200, 2000/200
(Look at the very bottom of the screenshots for the mid-split upload.)
The bad news...
For the most part, these new upload speeds are limited to only xFi Complete users.
If you bring your own modem or don't have xFi Complete, you are stuck with the same slower uploads (except for the 2Gbps tier, which gets 100 up without xFi Complete).
That may just be temporary, they may expand the faster speeds to everyone eventually. For now, they are limited only to xFi Complete.

New to Comcast?? modem questions
My daughter is moving to Pittsburgh for grad school and has scheduled an install for Comcast internet at her apartment. She got the “Performance Internet Xfinity Flex” plan with a 600/20 speed and “Blast! Internet.” I have a few questions:
1. What is Blast Internet?
2. They are charging her $14/month for the equipment rental. Can I use an Netgear Orbi mesh router or do they not provide a separate cable modem (I.e.: is their router integrated with their modem)?
Thanks in advance.

Arris SB 6190 and Xfinity Gig
I have some relatives who have xfinity that recently cut the cord and dropped from a double play down to just internet. They have an Arris SB6190 which they were using on their double play plan. I'm not sure what internet speed they had under the double play but they upped their internet speed to Xfinity gig extra when they cut the cord. The SB6190 is only a docsis 3.0 modem so I'm shocked that Xfinity upgraded them with that modem. I'm not sure what speed they are actually getting but I'm sure it's not where near a gig.
There are only two people in the household and all they do is stream stuff and look at internet on phones and tablets. My suggestion was to just drop down their internet speed to save some cash or buy a better modem. They are in Xfinity's Central Division for what it's worth.
↧
Cancellation fees?
I recently cancelled an internet-only account because I moved out of an apartment. I recently received my final bill, and while Xfinity did credit me from the disconnect date through the end of the billing cycle, they charged me a $10 "early termination fee".
WTF? I was an internet-only subscriber! They're still trying to nickel-and-dime me!

[Signals] SB8200 Loses Connection every few days
I'm posting some signal levels.
Is there something off about this modem?
The levels look decent, and they don't drift too much. I've tried this on different coax outlets ETC.
When I had a xfinity gateway didn't have the issue, but with the SB8200 (my second SB8200) this occurs.
Am I crazy? Would a MB8611 fix my problems?
When it works, it works perfect. 1400/42 without breaking a sweat, it just doesn't work all the time.
There are many entries in the log about T3 timeouts and "SYNC Timing Synchronization failure - Failed to acquire QAM/QPSK symbol timing"

CGM4331COM Bridge Mode Speed Issues
This past weekend we dropped Triple play and went Internet only with the 900/20 Unlimited deal with the XB7 included. Prior to this, I was using a Netgear CM500V provisioned for 600/20 with no issues.
I successfully enabled the modem and put it into bridge mode. My router is an Opnsense dedicated PC connected to a managed switch with multiple VLANS.
The issue I am having is various speedtest results have given poor showings for this new rate (~280 - 400). This is with speedtest.net app and Xfinity's own speedtest. My old setup was easily around 500-600 consistently.
Xfinity support has checked my account, run diagnostics and rebooted the modem multiple times in the last 2 days. The only consistent result is that the speed test results are all lower than expected. I did see one result that hit 700+ but that was fleeting. These test were run from as early as 5:00am to just a few minutes ago.
I think I have the latest firmware:
System Software Version
eMTA & DOCSIS Software Version:Prod_21.1_d31 & Prod_21.1
Software Image Name:CGM4331COM_5.2p12s1_PROD_sey
Advanced Services:CGM4331COM
Packet Cable:2.0
and looking at the modems channel info, all SNR and power levels are withen specs by a good margin (or so I think so)
I also noticed that my DHCPv4 address given to my router is on a different subnet than the modem. In fact its the same IP I had on my old setup. (72.x.x.x vs 65.x.x.x) I thought it would have expired by now with multiple resets and power downs.
So is there an issue with this router being in bridge mode for this provisioned speed?
Thanks

Attenuator required?
I have been having intermittent disconnects that last anywhere from less than a minute to several minutes several times per day for years.
When it works, it works fine and gets the full speed promised in my plan, but it randomly stops working. Sometimes I can’t even reach the 192.168.100.1 interface at all and the Xfinity app says the modem can’t be reached. It usually starts working a few minutes later.
I was thinking of replacing my 5 year old SB6183 with a new SB8200, but then I read this review.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-reviews/R2BUM5VPZYASZV/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_rvw_ttl?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B07DY16W2Z
The updated comments said an attenuator fixed his issue.
Is this a common issue?

upgraded to Harmonic node, horrible errors now
Over the last few days we got upgraded to a Harmonic node. Before this "upgrade" the signals used to be beautiful with no errors on most channels even after a month or more of uptime on the modem. After the upgrade I'm getting tens of thousands of errors in 40 minutes after rebooting the modem. Is this a known problem with Harmonic nodes? Did they just get a bad one?

[Account] Spurious "upgrade your device" E-mail?
I just received a "Your current device can't keep up with the latest speeds" E-mail from Xfinity. Upon confirming it was legitimately from Xfinity I logged in and as expected it shows my S33 as being fully compatible with my current plan.
Anyone else getting these in error? Wondering if it was just a glitch on my account or something more widespread.
