Just received an automated call on my cell phone (T-Mobile). It went something like this:
"Hi there. I'm calling from Comcast Xfinity. Your 'existing account' is eligible for 50% off. To take advantage of this offer, call (phone number) between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM Pacific time."
Neither number was a known, recognized phone number for Comcast. Googling both phone numbers brought up no results.
I'm in Massachusetts, not in the Pacific time zone.
So...if I bring my phone down to the local Comcast store and play them this voicemail, will they give me 50% off my 'existing account'? Surely, they'll know about this offer? :)

Comcast PA expansion (Berks and Chester counties)
According to our local paper, Comcast is expanding its network into existing Service Electric Cablevision territory throughout 2022-2023.

Any idea on what Comcast will use for a greenfield build? Will it be FTTH? The existing provider is a midsplit system using Arris OM6000 nodes and a mix of Magnavox, Motorola amplifier housings with internals recently upgraded to 1 GHz. Our flagship tier is 1500/150 mbps.
Will Comcast come along with a system more capeable than that, since it’s a brand new build? Or will they just chug along and connect it to their neighboring 750 MHz Scientific Atlanta based HFC plant (installed in the mid to late 90’s)?
I have no issues with my existing provider but I am excited for choice. This will be a 3rd choice in some areas (Windstream kinetic FTTH is in some communities mentioned in the article).
Also if they would choose to do EPON (they have an article for that type of build here: https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/all-ip-xfinity-fiber-only-network )… with the extra bandwidth would they still overcompress all HD down to 720p? Or for networks like EPON that have the bandwidth, could they deliver 1080?

Attenuator required?
I have been having intermittent disconnects that last anywhere from less than a minute to several minutes several times per day for years.
When it works, it works fine and gets the full speed promised in my plan, but it randomly stops working. Sometimes I can’t even reach the 192.168.100.1 interface at all and the Xfinity app says the modem can’t be reached. It usually starts working a few minutes later.
I was thinking of replacing my 5 year old SB6183 with a new SB8200, but then I read this review.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-reviews/R2BUM5VPZYASZV/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_rvw_ttl?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B07DY16W2Z
The updated comments said an attenuator fixed his issue.
Is this a common issue?
iI just looked at the signal levels on my SB6183

frequencies and modem reboot
there happened to be a xfinity bucket guy on the pole right across the street from me the other day and i started talking to him and asking him about different things like upstream, downstream power levels, bad frequencies, etc.then i asked him what if there are a bad channel or two,he said you don't have to worry because the modem will not lock on a bad channel,he said thats why there are like 41 or 42 channels.true or false?anybody experience this?

Diagnosing Motorola MB8611 or Comcast errors
This is a spin-off of https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r33478239-Motorola-MB8611-And-Comcast
I have a Motorola MB8611 that has started automatically rebooting several times a day. It's been going on for at least one week for sure and maybe for a while - another week, perhaps - before that
In that thread I was told
@terabitz:
"If you see lots of T3 timeouts then that means that there's noise on the line.
If not, then I'd say at this point you have a dud and you could probably RMA it or exchange for store credit."
I'm not sure what what counts as "lots of T3 timeouts". In the modem's even log I see 10 or so T3 timeouts between July 13 and Aug 3; then no records of any kind until today (Aug 27). But yesterday I saw Aug 26 events and the day before I saw Aug 25 events. Something is wiping out recent log records by keeping those old ones. That means I have no idea what recent T3 timeouts I might have had. The only recent records in the log are
"CM-STATUS message sent. Event Type Code: nn" ; Chan ID: 193;
where nn is always 16 or 24. Channel 193 is the OFDM PLC channel and I've been told that those events are normal on the OFDM channel. There are no event records written at the times of the reboots.
The SNR on all channels is in the 42-44 range.
Downstream Power is around 3 dBmV
Upstream Power is around 38 dBmV
From what I've seen on the web, those numbers are not bad.
Is there any way I can determine whether this is an intermittent Comcast problem vs a bad modem?

[Speed] Am I getting Gigabit X2?
I recently got an email from Xfinity saying in part:
"Bringing customers like you a fast and reliable experience is our number one priority. That’s why, in the coming days, we’ll be making improvements to the Xfinity network in your neighborhood. The goal of the work is to evolve our network to ultimately allow us to deliver multigigabit upload and download speeds."
My city (Colorado Springs) currently has multiple fiber networks being built. I'm guessing this is Comcast trying compete with those networks.
Does this email mean I'm getting Gigabit X2? If so how long after the outage can I expect to have those faster speeds?

No IPv6 after switching cable modems
OK, I don't need IPv6, but ...
For years I've had IPv6 support and lately have had a lot of IPv6 connections. Today I switched back to an old cable modem (to see if I've been fighting a modem problem or a Comcast problem) and I suddenly have no IP v6 support. The old modem - a TP-Link TC7650 - is DOCSIS 3.0 so should (and used to) support IPv6. My router still supports IPv6 - I have some IPv6 connections between devices on my LAN.
I have not rebooted the modem since it was provisioned / activated / whatever Comcast does to a newly connected modem. I guess I could try that but I'd rather not unless it's likely to help. I have rebooted my router and could do it again, but not conveniently for abut 3 hours.
Is this an expected problem after switching modems?

[Business] Intermittent Stalling of my Internet connection, solution??
I have a Comcast Business account with a Technicolor Model DPC3941B modem.
For some months I've had a problem with my Internet connection stalling, YET all the status lights on the modem said my connection was fine.
It happened for varying amounts of time, typically a few minutes to half an hour.
Then connection would slowly come back to life and work normally.
Sometimes I had to power down and power up the modem to get it to come back to life.
I noticed the outside of the modem felt pretty warm to the touch.
So I checked the outside temperature of the modem with an infrared temperature reader.
The temperature was 95-97F, and the air around the modem was unmoving.
Sat an old cooling fan blowing air into it, which lowered the outside temeprature to about 75F.
IT'S BEEN FOUR DAYS NOW AND THE INTERNET CONNECTION HASN'T STALLED EVEN ONCE!
I MAY be on to something, and thought I'd pass this on to others who have an intermittent stalling of their Internet connection.

Maybe some competition finally??
So it was just announced that part of the county I am in is getting Shentel Glo-Fiber rolled out taunting 2Gb symmetric for $100/month... Has anyone here dealt with them and this service?
From the map for the priority buildout, I am just within the shaded portion.

[Mobile] "Xfinity Mobile" wireless service
As mentioned in this recent DSLR news item https://www.dslreports.com/shownews/Comcast-Prepares-For-Mid2017-Wireless-Service-Launch-139048 , Comcast is planning a mid-year launch of their wireless service.
Comcast announced today that they will be providing the details on this new service on Thursday:
Comcast to Host Analyst Event to Discuss Launch of Mobile Initiative
Comcast press release, Business Wire - April 3, 2017
http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20170403005198/en/Comcast-Host-Analyst-Event-Discuss-Launch-Mobilequote:On Thursday, April 6, 2017, Comcast will host an analyst event to discuss the details of its previously announced mobile initiative, which utilizes an existing MVNO agreement. Senior members of the Comcast leadership team will participate in the event. ...There is also this FierceCable article today about it:
Comcast sets Thursday meeting with investors to discuss wireless launch
By Daniel Frankel, FierceCable - April 3, 2017
http://www.fiercecable.com/cable/comcast-sets-thursday-meeting-investors-to-discuss-wireless-launchquote:Some of the telecom industry’s most closely guarded secrets could finally be revealed Thursday, when Comcast hosts what it calls an “analyst event to discuss the details of its previously announced mobile initiative.”
:
Comcast confirmed plans to launch a wireless service combining the strengths of its vast Wi-Fi network and its MVNO deal with Verizon back in September. The launch has been slated for sometime later this year.
:
Last week, FierceWireless reported that Comcast is quietly partnering with Apple as it prepares to launch wireless service under the brand Xfinity Mobile: http://www.fiercewireless.com/wireless/comcast-quietly-taps-iphone-ahead-launch-xfinity-mobile
The cable giant’s name has been added to behind-the-scenes - but publicly available - code that lists carrier bundles for the iPhone. The list of carrier bundles is used by iTunes and iPhones to determine whether the iPhone’s SIM is supported by a service provider with whom Apple has an agreement, then provisions the phone accordingly.
The iPhone's latest list of carrier bundles includes "Verizon_Comcast_LTE_US," and mentions the service "Xfinity Mobile." A source pointed out the reference to FierceWireless, and a different source with knowledge of the matter confirmed that Comcast has indeed partnered with Apple ahead of the launch of Xfinity Mobile. [Account] Spurious "upgrade your device" E-mail?
I just received a "Your current device can't keep up with the latest speeds" E-mail from Xfinity. Upon confirming it was legitimately from Xfinity I logged in and as expected it shows my S33 as being fully compatible with my current plan.
Anyone else getting these in error? Wondering if it was just a glitch on my account or something more widespread.

Has Xfinity stopped posting when the do scheduled maintenance?
For months after the rollout of DOCSIS 3.1 in my town Xfinity has seemingly stopped working on the network here. If they have they no longer announce when and there has been no outages when they do maintenance.
Only thing I had noticed one time was when they worked on a line in my neighborhood is when they posted anything on the my account page.
Is this an issue for anyone else?

Problem Putting XFi 7 into Bridge Mode
I have an XFi7 modem. I want to put it into bridge mode before I install it. Is this possible? It worked first time when I used 10.0.0.1 and setup the wifi. Then had to log in and had to reset password and logged in with new password. Changed to bridge mode and got wait message while bridge mode enabled ,about 90 seconds finished that and then modem basically crashed going to a more info page. Now says 10.0.0.1 is unreachable. Tried a factory reset but still will not connect to 10.0.0.1.
Any help appreciated.

Any coax based surge arresters recommended?
So major thunderstorm this morning in the midst of which I started to get arcing between an external pcie connection on my APU2D4 router and the Mikrotik Ethernet switch it was sitting on. Router is now dead. All the devices were plugged into a surgearrester but all are on DC power bricks so the only grounded device in my network was the modem through the jacket on the coax.
So are there surge arresters I could install inside the apartment, where the coax comes in through the laundry room? I know nothing is going to stop everything but just looking for a little edge before more equipment gets cooked.

[Security] Scammer got ahold of my Xfinity E-mail address?
I created a specific E-mail address JUST for Xfinity in my personal domain. It's been working great, but today out of the blue I received a Paypal invoice scam to that address.
An address I've used NO WHERE ELSE, ONLY with Xfinity.
Has anyone else had this happen?
I created a new alias, logged into my Xfinity account and changed the E-mail address to the new alias, then nuked the old one so it no longer works. If I get another scam E-mail to the new one, which is impossible to just guess, I will be seriously concerned about Comcast's security surrounding our data.

Father in law passed away - options for mother triple play?
My father in law recently passed away and he had a triple play deal with Comcast with gig internet. The Comcast account and bill, etc was in his name. I think there is around 12 or so months left to go of the 24 month contract. I'm wondering how my mother in law should handle this? She would most likely want to keep a triple play package and needs to keep their voip # through Comcast. I think they are paying more than my mother in law wants to pay so I'm trying to figure out what her options here are?
Can she somehow transfer the service over into her name and qualify as a new customer and maybe get a better triple play deal that way? She could drop down her internet speed a lot if it's cheaper. Again the issue is we need to do this in a way where she won't lose their home # that they've had for 50+ years.
Please advise.
